Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

I look up to see three tall men in suits in front of me. "We will now start taking the first few people for their aptitude test." After hearing those words my stomach immediately falls, it feels like I just ate a brick and by the energy from everyone else around me it's pretty clear everyone else was feeling the same, even though I was nervous for different reasons then everyone else in that moment we all went silent. After it was clear he wasn't getting a response the man that spoke before looked down at us "Your 4 are up first." he said while beckoning us in, in which we followed suit.

After we made it to the lobby the man turned around again "Parents please wait out here." the man said and after finding out that none of us would have our parents with we all quickly turned around to wave goodbye. Turning around I see my Mom, Dad, and Tristan all looking so excited for me while they waved at me my Dad shouted "You got this champ!" he said that started a chorus of cheers from all of the parents and siblings, my little brother was screaming especially loud. Seeing all of that just reminded me of how lucky I was to be able to live the life I have and being reminded of that just made me feel even more nervous and feel even worse that I was pleading, no screaming out to god to please not let any one of us to get an Element.

After the whole saying goodbye to our parents the man leads us all to our rooms, luckily since I really wanted to get this over with, he chose me to go first for some reason "Awh man I wanted to go first." Art mutters next to me after the man told me to go inside for the examination. After mulling over it for less than a second I decided this was the least I could do for him since I decided this was the least I could do for him since I was already hoping he didn't get an Element "Um I'm feeling nervous can I go next." I say meekly which I'm sure came off as really believable since I actually was nervous. After hearing that Art immediately shot his hand up "I'll go instead!" he practically screams "Sure that's fine." the man in the suit said and so after Art said a quick good luck and a thank you to me he went inside and we continued to the next room in which it was finally my turn "Alright boys see ya." I say as confidently as I could muster "Good luck" they both say in response but Elijah gave me a look trying to say that he meant it the way that would've been lucky for me.

After entering the room I quickly surveyed my surroundings. The test room was basically a normal classroom but instead of all the student desks in its place stood a dentist chair surrounded by white tarp and what looked like a xray of camera of some sort attached to the ceiling on top of the chair. Besides that the teachers desk with a computer remained and at the desk I finally noticed a woman in the room with me "Hi young man" she said. The woman looked to be about in her mid 50s to 60s with jet black hair with a few grey spots in it and a few wrinkles on her face and neck. "uh Hi" I say back clearly flustered by her addressing me so casually "You excited for your exam" she says while standing up and walking towards the chair motioning me to follow her "Uh yeah" I respond "Really you seem more nervous to me." she says in a joking tone while she lowers the last tarp around the chair so we now couldn't see the rest of the room "um that too I guess" I say while scratching my arm "Thought so well here sit down and let me explain the test really quick hun." "Okay" I respond while sitting and laying back in the chair "Okay! So basically all that's gonna happen for the test is that I'm gonna point that camera to your eyes and what that camera does is it detects any difference in your pupil and displays either the color change or the symbol on that computer over there and that color or symbol would be your Element." She pauses looking at me awaiting confirmation that I understand so far so I give a quick nod and she continues "If you don't have an Element then the computer will just say that your pupils look alright and that's it! Now I'm just going to need some personal info and then we can start, okay?". After giving another quick nod I answer basic info about me like my name, where I live, and my parents phone number. After the lady wrote everything down on a clipboard that was in the tarp room she starts moving the chair down so I'd be laying down and moving the camera so it would be directly on top of my eyes "Don't worry you won't feel a thing." she says in a sweet and calming down which honestly eased my nerves even though I wasn't really worried about pain. "Okay so now I'm gonna take the scan to see if you have an Element then we'll be all done!" the lady said then she swiftly left the tarp room. Finally the moment I've been dreading my whole life is here I'm going to find out if I have an Element. All the days growing up training with Dad lead to this moment. All the times me and Art played around pretending to be Elementals growing up. All the worrying about having to make the choice to leave my family or stay here and just letting my Element rot. Everything just for this moment. Please God of Light please just let me have my way this once I thought as I heard a quick click from what I assumed was the camera and then a few seconds after that I heard a chair fall over "Holy shit!" the lady shouted as I heard her feet move quickly to what seemed like the direction of the door. "Get another Examiner, I think this kid has an Element!!!"
