Chapter 77 - Chapter 72

The war ended.

Every hero on the battlefield believed it for several brief, exhausted moments.

The storm surrounding Kurogane Atoll had finally begun fading. The collapsing island continued sinking slowly into the ocean while rescue teams moved desperately across the ruins searching for survivors. Fires still burned in scattered sections of the battlefield, but compared to the chaos from earlier, the world felt strangely quiet.

Too quiet.

Izuku floated above the shattered remains of the island, breathing heavily while Genesis slowly stabilized within his body. The green-black lightning surrounding him had weakened considerably now, though traces of the overwhelming pressure still lingered in the atmosphere.

Below him, heroes stared upward with expressions somewhere between relief and disbelief.

Bakugo wiped blood from his mouth.

"…That idiot actually did it."

Toru nearly collapsed from exhaustion beside him.

Shoto remained silent, though even he looked stunned by the scale of what had happened.

Farther away, All For One stood quietly near the edge of the destroyed battlefield with his coat moving gently in the ocean wind. For the first time in decades, his expression looked almost peaceful.

Garaki was dead.

The singularity was gone.

And somehow—

the world still existed.

Izuku slowly descended toward the battlefield.

The moment his feet touched the ruined ground, several heroes rushed toward him immediately.

"You okay?" Bakugo demanded.

Izuku nodded weakly.

"I think so."

"You think so?" Bakugo snapped. "You literally rewrote the damn atmosphere!"

Despite everything, Izuku laughed softly.

The sound surprised everyone nearby.

It sounded normal.

Human.

Toru suddenly hugged him tightly before he could react.

"You idiot…" she whispered shakily. "We thought you were going to die again…"

Izuku froze briefly.

Then slowly hugged her back.

"…Sorry."

Around them, exhausted heroes began helping the injured while rescue aircraft descended carefully through the fading storm clouds above.

For the first time in weeks—

hope felt real.

Then the ocean moved.

Not naturally.

Every instinct inside Izuku activated instantly.

Danger Sense exploded violently in his mind.

His expression changed immediately.

"Move."

Bakugo noticed it instantly.

"…Deku?"

The ocean surrounding Kurogane Atoll suddenly began turning black.

Not darkened.

Corrupted.

Massive waves rose unnaturally around the sinking island while the atmosphere grew colder by the second. Heroes froze as an overwhelming pressure spread across the battlefield once more.

Impossible.

Garaki was dead.

So why—

Then laughter echoed across the ocean.

Quiet.

Broken.

But unmistakable.

Izuku's eyes widened.

"No…"

The black ocean split apart.

A figure slowly rose from beneath the water.

Kurotsuki.

Or what remained of him.

Half his body looked destroyed from Garaki's forced possession. Black fractures covered his skin while unstable darkness leaked constantly from the wounds across his body. One silver eye remained glowing faintly while the other had gone completely black.

Yet despite his condition—

the pressure surrounding him still terrified everyone present.

Heroes immediately moved into defensive positions again.

Bakugo cursed under his breath.

"You've got to be kidding me…"

Kurotsuki stared silently toward the battlefield.

Toward the heroes.

Toward All For One.

Then finally—

toward Izuku.

"…You killed him," he said quietly.

Izuku stepped forward slowly.

"Kurotsuki."

His voice carried genuine caution now.

Because something was different.

The hatred from before was gone.

The cold certainty.

The overwhelming malice.

All of it had weakened.

Kurotsuki looked down at his own trembling hands.

"For years," he whispered, "I thought his voice was my own."

The ocean trembled around him.

"He created me before I even understood what I was."

Fragments of memory surfaced inside Izuku's mind.

Kurotsuki's strange behavior.

The way Garaki spoke about him.

The fear Kurotsuki showed before the possession.

He was never truly free.

Kurotsuki laughed weakly.

"Do you know what the worst part is?"

His remaining eye slowly lifted toward Izuku.

"I can still hear him."

Darkness leaked violently from his body again.

Unstable.

Dying.

All For One's expression darkened immediately.

"His quirk factor is collapsing."

Kurotsuki smiled faintly.

"Yes."

The black corruption spreading through the ocean intensified.

"Garaki fused too much into me. His consciousness is gone… but the singularity remains."

Danger Sense screamed harder.

Izuku realized it instantly.

Kurotsuki himself was becoming unstable.

A living singularity collapse.

If he lost control now—

everything nearby would disappear.

Kurotsuki understood it too.

"That's why," he said quietly, "I came back."

Silence spread across the battlefield.

Rain began falling lightly once more.

Kurotsuki's breathing became uneven.

"Finish this properly, Izuku Midoriya."

Bakugo immediately stepped forward.

"No. Screw that. We're ending this together."

Kurotsuki looked toward him briefly.

Then laughed softly.

"You really are heroes."

Darkness erupted around him again.

The ocean split apart violently.

Kurotsuki's body began breaking down further while unstable singularities formed uncontrollably around the battlefield.

There was no stopping it anymore.

Either Izuku ended him—

or everyone died.

Izuku slowly stepped forward.

One For All and Genesis surged together once more.

Kurotsuki raised his head toward him.

For the first time since they met—

his expression looked tired.

Not evil.

Not monstrous.

Just tired.

"Tell me something," he asked quietly.

Izuku stopped several meters away.

"What?"

Kurotsuki stared toward the clearing sky above Kurogane Atoll.

"…Was I ever human?"

The question hit harder than any attack.

Because beneath all the destruction—

beneath the singularity—

beneath Garaki's experiments—

there had once been someone.

Someone twisted into a weapon before he could become anything else.

Izuku looked at him silently.

Then answered honestly.

"Yes."

Kurotsuki closed his eyes.

A faint smile crossed his face.

"…Good."

Then the singularity inside him erupted completely.

Darkness consumed the battlefield.

But this time—

Izuku did not attack with rage.

Genesis expanded outward calmly while One For All surged through every part of his body. Green-black light spread across the collapsing ocean as Izuku reached directly toward the unstable singularity consuming Kurotsuki from within.

Not to destroy it.

To stop it.

Genesis activated fully.

Reality stabilized around them instantly.

The collapsing distortions slowed.

Then weakened.

Then stopped.

Kurotsuki opened his remaining eye slightly in shock.

"You…"

Izuku grabbed his arm firmly.

"You suffered enough."

Light exploded across the battlefield.

The singularity shattered apart harmlessly into thousands of fading fragments that drifted upward into the clearing sky like black snow.

Kurotsuki's body began disappearing slowly afterward.

No screaming.

No violence.

Only silence.

He looked toward Izuku one final time.

"…Thank you."

Then he vanished completely.

The ocean calmed.

The storm disappeared.

And for the first time since Shibuya—

the world became quiet again.
