Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: His Story

-Present Day-

A young boy watched as his classmates pass by his position, unknowing of his presence. He held his breath, doing his best to drown out all sound, hoping that they would just get a move on already.

Now, this wasn't normally what a middle-schooler would be doing while eating his lunch in the bathroom, but he wasn't what people would call normal after all.

"Huh, could've sworn I heard something over here", What was probably his classmate looked around confusingly. Perhaps bringing his Limited Edition All Might themed water bottle to school with him wasn't really the brightest of ideas, it did make quite a bit of noise when opened after all.

"Forget it man, shit's giving me the creeps, let's just get outta here already", both boys washed their hands, well that's a new one, ya don't often see that happening around here.

"Speaking of creeps, you heard what happened in the tracks today? Seems like Midoriya is at it again with his freaky quirk", the boy in question slumped in his toilet seat after hearing that.

"Yeah man, gave Tsuguru-sensei a heart attack when that happened! Also heard he got detention, as usual."

"Man, what's he still even doing here? I mean, he just looks so....villainous ya know? It just looks like he'd be in all sorts of trouble.", There it was, the daily remark of his unwanted placement in this school.

Sighing to himself as he finished up the rest of his lunch, he failed to notice that his hold on his quirk was slipping.

Eyes now shot open with panic, he desperately stood up in an attempt to-

SMACK

Too little too late, sadly.

"Hey! What th-", Both boys froze in fear, as a severed head came rolling towards their feet, stopping on one of the boy's shoes.

"KYYAAAHHHHHHHHHHH", both guys screamed out, running as fast as they could out of the bathroom, leaving the now sheepish head wincing as a bruise formed on the side of his cheek.

Now you may be wondering why a severed head is able to wince at pain, but first, let's get ourselves a little refresher first yeah?

It all started when a baby was born with the power to glow. Soon after, people started developing powers left and right, and society as you know it started to change. Thus, the birth of what we now dub 'Quirks' was brought into our everyday lives.

A superpowered society, one where the age of both Heroes and Villains emerged. And after a war torn struggle between the two, our Heroes were made victorious through the efforts of countless brave men and women. And it was also thanks to the overwhelming power one man used for the sake of justice.

Japan's Number One Hero: All Might, the Symbol of Peace.

Thus, an era of unprecedented peace was brought about. Which now leads to our current situation with one boy named Izuku Midoriya.

"That's gonna- ow, add another hour to my detention...", A body without it's head walked towards the severed head's location, the ghostly pale green flame at the top of it's neck illuminating the rather dark bathroom.

Wincing as he carefully picked up his head, he sighs while thinking of how he was gonna explain to his mom about the bruise on his face, especially after promising he would be more careful.

Placing his head on the top of his neck, he frowns in discomfort while activating his quirk. The flame moved to hold his head in place, making him seem like your ordinary human guy, if you ignore the occasional flicker of ghostly flames around his neck of course.

"This is the third time this week...", and yes, it's a Monday.

Cringing at the uncomfortable feeling of having his head attached to his body, he began to wonder where it all started to go wrong...

-Flashback-

An excited 4 year old Izuku vibrated in his seat while watching the same video for the 14th time, a wide smile on his face as he watched his all time idol and favorite Hero once again save the day.

"Look Mom! Look! Isn't he just the coolest!" Inko Midoriya smiles fondly as she watches her son happily talk about the hero, preparing to leave the room to ask Hisashi Midoriya, her husband on what he wanted for dinner when suddenly-

SMACK

"OW That hurts! Mom help!", shaking her head, she was about to give her son a little scolding for being so careless while helping him up, when suddenly she froze, wide eyed.

Izuku looked at his now pale mother in confusion, wondering what happened to cause her to have such an expression, when he then caught sight of his now, headless body, sitting on his chair.

Both Midoriyas turned to look at each other, and after about 10 seconds of eye contact-

"KYYYYAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!/AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!"

"What's with all the commotion over theeAaaAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!"

-Present Time-

He sure did give his parents a scare didn't he? Usually parents would have to worry about their kids growing horns or wings or whatever, but pretty sure nobody could expect your child to suddenly be decapitated the moment his quirk appeared!

Looking back at the memory fondly, he took out his notebook and started looking through his notes, eyes landing on a very important page.

'Izuku Midoriya, Quirk: Dullahan

Resembling the creature of myth from Irish Legends, his head is completely separated from his body. Bodily functions work as per usual, no abnormalities barring one pale green flame on his neck.

Current known ability:

- Able to conjure and control flames the same color as the one on his neck, an interesting discovery is that the flames do not burn as per usual, instead it only works on living beings, causing the body to overheat (similar to a fever).

Side Note:

Flames can be created from any parts of his body, strongest from the neck and mouth and weakest from the torso and thighs. Flames also are unable to shoot past a certain distance away from the body (Close-Mid Range Attacks).

Head is also unable to move past a certain distance away from the body, passing that distance would cause side effects such as Nausea and Dizziness. '

Personally, he thought it was an extremely cool quirk, a never before seen type of flame capable of causing such unique effects? His inner quirk nerd beamed at the thought of it! Unfortunately though, not everyone could say the same about his Quirk...

-Flashback-

"Can't you see Inko?! He looks like a freak! Daily I get people whispering about him and how they pity me! Some of them even think he isn't mine Inko!", Little Izuku chokes on his tears while watching his parents argue again.

This hadn't been the first time either, ever since his quirk manifested his father had become more and more closed off to him. No matter what he did, his father simply wouldn't acknowledge him. Countless arguments had happened over him, topics ranging from 'He isn't mine' to 'Do you see how the people around us look at us' always came up.

"Hisashi! That's enough! Of course he's yours! I would neve-"

SLAP

THUD

"DON'T RAISE YOUR TONE AT ME WOMAN! DON'T YOU KNOW HOW HARD I WORK EVERYDAY TO FEED YOU AND THAT LITTLE SHIT?! HUH?!", His mother sobs on the floor holding her cheek in pain, just then a thought appeared in his mind.

'Is this...all my f-fault?', His father, enraged, looked at him and grabbed his collar, raising him high above the ground, causing his head to detach from his body and smack against the wooden floor. This seemed to only make the man more disgusted and angry.

"YOU!!! WHY COUDN'T YOU HAVE BEEN NORMAL?!?! WHY'D I HAVE TO GET SO UNLUCKY AS TO HAVE A FREAK OF A CHILD?! YOU DAMN MONSTER!!", Ahhh so that's what he was. His young little mind finally slotting the pieces into the puzzle, the reason why his friends all left him, the reason why his father never acknowledged him.

The reason why his mother would always cry at night when she thought she was alone, and now, the reason why she was on the floor, married to a man she no longer recognizes.

It was all because he was.....

A Monster.

-Present Day-

Shaking his head to disperse the bad memories, he quickly left the bathroom with his stuff and rushed home, he could come up with an excuse as to why he skipped detention later, now all he wanted to do was head home and lay on his bed.

As he walked, he tried to ignore the wary stares and disgusted looks he got from all the other students. Deep down he knew he wasn't what they believed him to be, but it hurt him on the inside whenever it did happen.

After all, he wasn't, couldn't have been a monster....right?

His head hung low, carefully as to not drop his head again, his eyes glistened as he tried to calm himself down. Taking deep breaths, he continued his way home. Walking into the convenience store to grab his favorite ice cream, he paid for it and left while making an effort to ignore the pointed look the clerk gave him.

Who would've thought the rumors from Mikazuki Junior High School would reach the ears of the outside?

Finally reaching home, he took off his shoes and tried to quickl-

"H-How was school Izuku?", His mother stood there with an apron, seemingly making dinner.

His stomach dropped, surprisingly not his head, at the thought of his mother. Ever since she and Da- Hisashi divorced she had never been the same, she stopped taking care of herself while struggling to handle the stress of a single parent. And all the while, he blamed himself for it all, if only he was norm-

Once again shaking his head, accidentally making it wobble a bit, he reinforced the flames to have a tighter hold of his head, ignoring the discomfort of doing so.

"I-It was great Mom, just a little tired is a-all.", he felt really bad about lying to his mom, but he just couldn't, wouldn't worry her anymore than she already has. He couldn't tell her about the constant bullying by the more rowdy students nor could he tell her about the constant stares and judgement from those around him.

He'd just have to bear through it all and smile...right? T-that's what All Might would d-do?

After reassuring his mother, he silently closed his door, locking it and dumped himself on his bed. Closing his eyes as tears started to gather, he forcefully held it down while also allowing his head to detach from his body. Placing his head on a separate pillow, he tried to fall asleep, constantly ignoring the thoughts in his head that kept calling him one word.

'Monster'

-???-

Hungry.

Footsteps echoed through the alley as a figure in dirty rags limped forward. Heavy breathing accompanied the figure as they desperately looked around.

So Hungry.

Just then a clerk walked out of the convenience store, determined to clock out and head home.

"Seriously, could this day get any wo-", she locked eyes with our mysterious figure, eyes widened in shock at the manic look in their eyes. Taking a step back, she whimpered as she tried to reach for her phone, but alas, this was simply not her day.

soo..HUNGRYYY

Cue the screams.
