Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The birthday party(1)

Diamond woke up with a splitting headache. She tried recalling last night's escapade, but the more she tried, the more her head pounded.

The last place she could recall being was the club, and now she was on her bed. It must have been Tanya who brought her home.

She sluggishly reached for her phone in her bag. Scrolling through it, she quickly jerked up.

"Oh no, the birthday party."

She rushed out of bed and into the shower, and within minutes she was out.

She got dressed and put on light makeup before putting her phone in her bag and darting out of her room.

She knew Tanya would be at work by now, so she quickly moved around the house to make sure the high-risk appliances were all switched off — and to her surprise, they were.

Not wanting to waste any more time, she hastily left the house.

She was glad when she found a taxi, and soon she had reached her destination.

She gasped as she stood in front of an enormous and extravagant mansion. Though the estate itself looked grand and the houses around were impressive, she didn't expect to see a mansion this big. It wasn't like the rest of the houses in the estate. She could only guess that the owners were filthy rich.

She looked at the address on her phone to make sure she was at the right place and became nervous when it confirmed she was.

She looked at the mansion once more. The atmosphere seemed busy as there were people running here and there, trying to fix and arrange things for the party.

Summoning courage, she knocked on the huge gate. She was about to knock again when the gatekeeper suddenly appeared, startling her.

"Oh," she said in surprise.

"And who are you?"

"Good morning, sir. I'm here to serve at the birthday party."

"Not quite the answer to my question. Alright then, can I see your passcode?" the man said, and she quickly showed him her phone.

The man nodded and then opened the gate, letting her in.

"Wow," she gasped as she entered the compound.

She looked around, astonished. There were gardens almost everywhere that bore flowers of different colors. She caught sight of a fountain. It was beautiful. Everything was beautiful, and she had never seen anything like it. She felt like running around it.

Waving off her thoughts, she quickly moved toward the mansion.

"One of the servers, I guess."

She quickly swung around at the sound of the voice. Her gaze fell on a middle-aged woman dressed in a beautiful flowing gown. The woman carried an intimidating yet calm aura that seemed to confuse her. She guessed the woman was in charge and perhaps the owner of the house, as she seemed to command respect from the people working.

"Good morning, ma'am," she said but was interrupted by the woman.

"You are quite late."

"I'm sorry, ma'am. There was a traffic jam," she lied.

"Hmm, I see," the woman said, looking her up and down.

She felt small under the woman's scrutiny. She suddenly felt relieved when the woman began to speak again.

"Well then, follow me." She walked briskly as the woman already began walking, and the woman was surprisingly fast.

"We have lots of work to do, and the party will soon begin."

They walked into the mansion, which looked even better from the inside. The mansion was being decorated by some interior designers. She thought their work was impressive, and from the decorations she could tell that some high-class interior designers had been hired.

"Watch your step."

She was suddenly pulled out of her thoughts by the woman's voice.

"Yes, ma'am," she said and decided to concentrate on where they were going.

They took a turn and then went straight ahead before walking through a door that led them to the kitchen where confectionaries and delicacies were being made.

"This is the kitchen where you will be serving from. You and the others will be guided on how and where to serve by the kitchen staff," the woman said.

With that being said, the woman turned and left.

She could finally relax as she looked around. The kitchen was large and exquisite. These people were filthy rich and...

She was cut off by the aroma of the delicacies and confectionaries.

"Oh, it smells divine," she said to herself.

She quickly got to work, helping the others arrange plates, trays, and glasses.

_Do not mess this up,_ she said to herself, recalling last night's disaster — how she had mistaken someone else for Tanya and had spilled a drink on a guy.

_The guy,_ she paused, her thoughts lingering more on the blue-eyed guy she had spilled the drink on.

_He's so full of pride,_ she thought before dismissing her thoughts.

The party had begun, and you could hear the buzzing of the music from the kitchen.

She noticed there was a large circular window on the kitchen door that was sealed with glass.

She moved toward it, and a smile made its way to her face when she saw that she could see the parlor and the guests coming in through it.

The guests were high class, and their outfits could cost a fortune.

She turned as she felt a hand on her shoulder.

"It's time to serve," said a lady who she guessed was one of the kitchen staff.

"Follow me," the lady said, and she quickly followed her to a corner where all the confectionaries had been laid out on a large tray on the counter.

She could see that the other girls were already gathered there, and she quickly joined them.

"These are the confectionaries to be served. Each of your trays will be refilled here, and you are to work diligently," the head staff spoke.

They were assigned to where they would serve, and she was assigned to serve upstairs.

Her tray was filled with confectionaries that were wrapped in serviettes.

She quickly made her way out of the kitchen and to the parlor, and then went up the stairs filled with people.

She served the people she came across, and soon her tray was empty.

She quickly went downstairs and to the kitchen where her tray was refilled again, and she darted out of the kitchen and up the stairs, minding her steps so as not to trip and fall.

She walked around another corner, serving anyone she came across until her tray was empty.

She decided to rest a little as she had been walking. She pulled out a handkerchief from her pocket and wiped the beads of sweat from her forehead and let out a deep breath.

She felt like going home, to her comfort zone, but she quickly waved off the feeling as she remembered that she was going to be paid three hundred dollars.

She summoned courage and decided to walk around a little just to relax before she would go back downstairs to refill her tray.

_Oh, those stairs,_ she dreaded the stairs as they made her knees ache.

She strolled along a hallway that was filled with paintings of artistic value. The paintings were so beautiful that she found herself staring at them when she suddenly heard voices approaching.

"Oh no," she thought. She was going to get caught.
