Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Job hunting

Diamond came back exhausted from yet another job hunt.

"How long can I keep this up?" she asked herself as she crashed on the sofa.

"Just a little bit more," Tanya suddenly said, coming out of the kitchen and startling Diamond a little.

"Hey," Diamond said. "You startled me."

"Well, I'm sorry. I came back from work early and decided to chill."

"Ha ha ha, you don't need to rub it in my face," Diamond said, rolling her eyes.

"That was never my intention. Still no luck, huh?"

"Yeah, I've been to almost every company with my CV, yet nothing..."

She was suddenly cut off by Tanya. "Hey, you are doing great," Tanya said while squeezing her hand gently. "I assure you that a company's gonna call you soon. I mean, your credentials are impressive and, most of all, you deserve it."

Diamond could feel the sincerity in Tanya's voice. "Thanks," she said and gave Tanya a tight hug.

Tanya had been her best friend since college and they had almost everything in common.

She remembered the times Tanya stood up for her when she was being bullied, or the time she had gotten into trouble and Tanya came through for her.

She smiled upon recalling those memories.

"I love you," she said, her voice barely a whisper.

"Aww, I love you too, my baby bun."

They both laughed upon hearing the words, "My baby bun." "I like it," Diamond said.

"Sure you do," Tanya said while patting her back.

After a long hug, they finally pulled out of each other's embrace.

Diamond wiped the few tears that had fallen down her cheeks.

"Oh no, don't smudge your makeup," Tanya said while wiping the tears off Diamond's cheeks.

"Uh, I was just savoring the moment," Diamond laughed at her lie.

"You know you're a really bad liar."

"I know, I know," Diamond said while taking a bow.

Both girls burst into laughter.

"Um, since the day is still young and we have nothing to do, why don't we go out, huh? Feel alive," Tanya said while doing a kind of shoulder dance which made Diamond giggle.

"Okayyyy, but I have a birthday party to serve at tomorrow and a day shift at McTreats the day after tomorrow, which means I need to rest."

"Seriously? So you don't even have time for yourself, or even me?" Tanya said with a sullen look.

"How am I supposed to earn income if I don't work? I mean, do all these things."

"You got me," Tanya said while trying to stuff a cherry into her mouth that was already full of cherries.

"Tanya, I can't be depending on you all the time."

"I know, but what are besties # sisters for?"

"Alright, but not always," Diamond said.

"Yes ma'am," Tanya said. "Chop chop! we need to get dressed. We are going clubbing."

"Seriously, clubbing?" Diamond said, debating it but deciding it was best not to argue, knowing it was pointless arguing with Tanya. She'd always won every argument.

"You need to get dressed now, and guess what? I'm picking your clothes."

"Oh no," Diamond gasped. "I'm doomed!"
