Abruptly, the drums stopped. A wild keening began followed by every man in the village beginning to shift with the exception of my husbands.
"What is…" I began only to be hushed by Uchel.
"Follow me," he said and led our circle up to Chief Inti. She sat with Kachel in the chair of honor as I had begun to call it. I recognized it from my welcome ceremony.
I looked around the clearing and was amazed at how many beasts there were. You could barely see the women as their husbands towered over them.
The children in the crowd shrieked in laughter and all came up to the chief along with me and my husbands.
"Welcome!" my mother in law's voice boomed over the crowd. I wondered if she had used wind magic to help her voice carry.
"Today it the naming day for this little one." She held Kachel up high so as to show him to the crowd.
"Will the child's parents please step forward?"
We all came up and stood in front of Chief Inti. She lowered Kachel and handed him to me.
