Chapter 19 - "The Knock of the Ghost"

The very next day when both Mino got up at around 10 am, he found Milo dead asleep.

He decided not to disturb him and silently left the room.

Downstairs he found both his parents stopping on the chairs placed outside in the lawn.

He was dying of hunger and thus decided to ask his mom for breakfast.

"Hey mom, good morning." Mino said with a greeting gesture.

"Good morning again Mino?" His mom responded with a half smile.

"Wdym again? I just woke up and the rats are partying in my stomach." Mino responded with a tired expression.

"Oh dear, you and Milo just had ur breakfast at 8 am and now you are hungry again." His mom said getting up from the chair to fix her clothes.

"No we didn't. In fact, Milo is still sleeping deeply up there." Mino said with confusion.

"It's okay honey you don't need to lie to me if u want more meals." His mom responded with a smile and left for the kitchen.

"But mom-" Mino tried to speak up but his mom had no time for that talk.

"It's okay Mino. I also saw Milo chilling at the stairs after midnight as well." Mr Belton winked at his son.

"I am not sure about Milo but I had no food after yesterday's dinner." Mino left the area as well with a confused face.

Mino while playing in the garden saw Milo hiding behind the neighbourhood tree.

"Hey! When did you wake up?" Mino asked with a smile.

There was no answer from Milo.

"Are u deaf? I am asking you Milo." Mino said raising his tone.

Again, no answer from Milo.

This made Mino a bit mad and he marched towards Milo to hit him on the face.

When Mino reached near the oak tree he was shocked to see no one there.

Where did Milo go? The voices in his head whispered to him.

At the very next second, a small pebble struck his knee and he got hurt badly there.

He started shouting loudly.

All the house gathered to see what has happened.

A few neighbours also showed up.

Even the loud cry made the sleeping Milo get up.

"Aahhh! You stupid head. Milo, you will pay for this." Mino said grabbing his bleeding knee.

"What happened dear?" His mom came running worried.

"Who did this?" His father said with a fierce look.

"Milo. He did it. Who else would do it?" Mino continued shouting.

"Milo. Come out or get ready to be grounded." His mom shouted as well.

"This kid needs to do pranks in boundaries." The father said in an enraged voice.

Milo after hearing the loud noises stopped at the stairs and looked out of the small window.

There he saw Mino sitting wounded on his knee, his parents standing there, both worried and angry.

Milo heard his name loudly being yelled by both of them.

He knew he was in deep trouble.

"Milo. You nasty kid. Come out." Mrs Belton responded with a loud cry.

The father went inside to get the first aid kit they brought as emergency.

Milo concealed when he heard the footsteps.

Milo had no idea what to do next so he silently went back to the room & pretended that he was sleeping as usual.

"Common in you fool. You don't even dare to play again with that loose head." Mr Belton said, carrying Mino towards the room.

"Sure dad." Mino said, with hiccups.

"Let me get my hands on this wicked kid." Mrs Belton said, rushing ahead of Mr Belton towards the room where both Milo and Mino had slept last night.

There they all entered just to see Milo sleeping like a seed on the side of the bed.

"I am sure he is acting asleep just to escape what he did to me." Mino said with aggression.

"Yeah kiddo but I wouldn't let that happen." Mr Belton said, placing Mino on the bed.

"I would suggest you to keep him hungry for today." Mrs Belton said, moving towards Milo.

"Nah, he deserves another treatment aswell." Mr Belton said, twisting his knuckles.

"Please don't make it a big case." Mrs Belton responded with a sad node.

"Alright." Mr Belton said with an aggressive look.

Milo had heard the complete conversation that took place.

He wasn't sure if he would open his eyes but tearing started dropping from his eyes.

He knew nobody would save him today also he can't move out cause the strange man would appraoch him.

Mr Belton quickly approached Milo and shook him furiously.

"Get up! You demonic teenager" Mr Belton said with extreme jerks to Milo.

This made Milo sit straight up with teary eyes.

This made the rest of the family more suspicious both the act that just happened.

"What happened dad?" Milo said with teary eyes and shivering voice.

"What happened? HUH!" Mr Belton said with an enraged voice, slapping Milo hard on the face.

He hit the floor hard.

When he tried getting up, Mr Belton continued slapping and kicking Milo hardly on the face and stomach with yelling: "I warned you multiple times, you rascal. You don't get away with doing these kind of acts and go off unasked. Don't dare doing this again."

"But-But-Dad! Father! I am Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Please stop." Milo said, repeating in agony with teary eyes.

This beating continued with extreme yelling and carnage.

Mr Belton hit him with the leather belt aswell which he was wearing.

After five minutes, Milo stood there helpless on the floor.

"You little SOB." Mr Belton said, grabbing the belt and leaving in fierce way.

Mrs Belton wanted to help the poor thing but her sympathy was more with Mino.

Both her and Mino left the room and locked it leaving Milo lying there, helpless and hungry.

It was around 2 pm.

Mino was sleeping in his parents room.

Milo hadn't spoken a word and was locked in that same room.

The parents were sitting downstairs having a meal.

"Do you think we should tell the kids to come and eat along with us?" Mrs Belton said with a concerned voice.

"I would call Mino right away but no need to call that other scum." Mr Belton said, getting up from the table.

"Oh dear. Don't be that harse on that little thing. After all, he is our child." Mrs Belton said, putting a hand on Mr Belton.

Mr Belton pushed that hand away and responded rudely: "He might be your kid not mine. Remember you adopted him and NOT ME."

After saying this, Mr Belton went upstairs to call Mino.

He was shocked to see that Mino rather than sleeping on the bed was laying helpless on the window.

He grabbed Mino immediately and took him to the bed.

After sprinkling some water on his face, he got up and grabbed his dad tightly.

"What happened? Are you out of your damn mind?" Mr Belton said, hugging Mino tightly.

"Dad. I promise I saw Milo but-" Mino responded, shivering completely.

"How did that bitch come out of the room? I thought he wouldn't even move for a day or two." Mr Belton said, putting his arms in the hairs of Mino.

"I don't know dad but the scary part was that he had no eyes." Mino said, grabbing his dad tighter.

"What are you on? No eyes. Kid stop watching horror if you are that weak." Mr Belton said, pushing him away.

"Dad I promise his eyes were completely white. His smile was full of blood." Mino said, trying to hug his father again.

"Let me teach this loosy smart kid a lesson again." His father said, taking his belt off again.

"Hey honey. Bring Mino down here. What is taking you this long?" Mrs Belton shouted.

"Take him yourself. I got to teach this punk a lesson again." Mr Belton said, unlocking that specific room again.

Mrs Belton felt terrified and immediately rushed upstairs.

"Hey! Stop! What are you doing?" Mrs Belton said, running quickly.

"YOU PIECE OF SHIT! HOW DARE YOU! HOW DID U ESCAPE THIS ROOM?" Mr Belton said, hitting Milo straight on the face.

Milo was lying at the same place. He had just moven his head a bit but due to the extreme bit he couldn't even move a single leg.

The harsh beating began and became more worse.

Milo started crying harshly for help.

Mrs Belton came in between and stopped the barbarism.

"Teach this rascal of yours to stay in limits or I will throw him off the next time." Mr Belton said, leaving the room with smashing the door.

"What animal has alcohol made you?" Mrs Belton murmured, going towards Milo to see him.

"I am sorry honey." Mrs Belton said, picking the kid and placing him on the bed.

Milo didn't say a word but was crying silently.

The tears started quickly dropping filling the pillow with emotions.

Soon, he felt asleep due to the suffering he faced from that brutality and due to the lack of sleep from yesterday.

Mrs Belton stood next to him, consoling and calming him down.

She left silently after she saw Milo got asleep.

After that, she sat next to Mino until he slept aswell. She was shocked to hear what Mino told her about Milo.

She knew it was completely impossible for a weak knocked out kid to come that fast through the windows, terrify another kid and leave that quickely without a single noise.

She went downstairs to confront his husband but he was nowhere to be seen.

She sat there waiting for him, impatient & mad.

At around 5 pm, she heard a knock on the door.

She had fallen asleep while reading a book.

She got up immediately and rushed towards the door. She wanted answers for Mr Belton's barbaric actions.

When she opened the door, she got stunned.

It wasn't her husband but a man in a black suit, with his face opposite to the door.

He was holding a card and an envelope.

He turned around in a blink of an eye.

His face had no expressions and his eyes were dead.

"Hello. I presume you are new here." That man said with a generous tone.

"Hmm....Hi. Yeah, we just shifted two days ago." Mrs Belton responded with a shocked face.

"Are you with your family or a bachelor?" The man said with the same tone.

"I came here with my family. I got two kids." Mrs Belton replied, trying to stand straight.

"Oh interesting. And by the way, my name is Fletcher." Fletcher continued with the same low tone.

"Nice to meet you Fletcher. How can I help you?" Mrs Belton said with a smile.

"There are many ways one can help a stranger especially when its a female." Fletcher said, his face growing darker.

This made Mrs Belton creep too much that now she just wanted to land a bye and close the door she regret opening.

"Hmm....I guess it's time to give tea to my husband." Mrs Belton said with a shivering voice.

"Alright lady. Just a quick thing for you." Fletcher said putting one of his hands forward.

Mrs Belton flinched a bit, expecting a gun or knife but it was the same damn envelope.

"Take this and give it to your husband. Also, I would be throwing my weekly party tonight. I would really appreciate if your family would join it." Fletcher said with a grin.

Mrs Belton gave a sharp look to the envelope and tried responded: "But-"

She was shocked to find nobody in front of her.

The creepy man had vanished within seconds.

She, with a trembled face reached towards the kitchen.

She threw the envelope on the sofa.

She also didn't prepare any food or tea for her husband because she was shivering out of fear. She was known to be a sensitive female.

There was a hard knock on the door at 6 pm.

She sat up straight, thinking the man had returned but it was probably a more worser figure, the husband.

"Damn it. Open the door. I need food." Mr Belton started yelling loudly from the door.

Mrs Belton rushed quickly towards with the same shock.

She opened the door and calmed down a bit.

"Is the tea ready?" Mr Belton said, rushing towards the dinning area.

"Leave the tea. Mr Belton, I just encountered a very strange man." Mrs Belton said sitting next to her husband.

"What kind of man? And get me the tea. I can listen to your nonsense later." Mr Belton said, putting his legs on the table.

"He was wearing a suit, had no visible expressions and a creepy vibe." Mrs Belton said with scared expressions.

"It's okay we all face some weird people daily now go and make me some tea & refreshments." Mr Belton responded, placing his arms crossed below his head.

Mrs Belton left her husband with a disappointed face. She knew he wouldn't care one bit.

She started preparing food.

Mr Belton stood there waiting for the food.

There was a heavy noise outside the door with people chanting some sentences loudly.

"Fire at the Anubis Track."

"Cursed Lounz Lodge Dinner."

"Marmalade"

"Galettoe Gartsopen"

Mr Belton rushed outside to the door.

"A fresh sacrifice is going to occur tonight." One of the people shouted loudly in a creepy tone.

"What are you even talking about? And also keep it low." Mr Belton said with a fierce way.

"Alright sir. Sorry for the problem but be prepared for the worst." Another unfriendly creepy voice came from the crowd.

After that Mr Belton entered inside and saw that the tea was ready.

He sat there next to his wife who stood her head low, disappointed.

"Did you hear the noise a few seconds ago?" Mr Belton said, taking a sip from the tea.

"What noise? I didn't hear anything." Mrs Belton responded and left her husband sitting alone.

She was tired and decided to sleep upstairs.

The family had no idea what would happen to them that very night.
