Chapter 60 - Farewell, Alexander

If Alexander had behaved himself and stopped playing little games…

Shen He might have been willing to talk things out peacefully. After all, Hydra was one of Marvel's most iconic signatures.

But now that they were confirmed enemies, the only thing Shen He wanted was battle.

The air crackled with the sound of flames devouring everything. The front half of Hydra's convoy was swallowed in an instant by Mirage's point-blank artillery barrage.

Shen He activated the Absolute Defense Field and unleashed every weapon the mech could deploy. Whether man or machine, everything was shredded by the storm-like hail of bullets. Every flash from the spherical positron cannon beneath his wrist detonated another blazing fireball.

At the same moment Shen He opened fire, Violet dove into the forest on either side of the road, using the flames as cover.

Hydra's rear troops finally began to counterattack—mostly with machine guns, rockets, Gatlings… typical ground-force hardware.

With Violet's current level-16 strength, she could slaughter them effortlessly.

What Shen He cared about was Alexander—still motionless amidst the flames.

"Master—!"

A danger warning suddenly rang through Jeanne's heart.

But it was too late—a twisted beam of light pierced the flames and struck Mirage's Absolute Defense head-on. The already-low energy plummeted to zero in an instant.

"EES (Emergency Ejection System) activated!"

Jarvis's final message barely reached Shen He's ears before the entire cockpit ejected from the mech, sending him tumbling hundreds of meters away.

Mirage exploded the instant that warped beam hit, scattering into drifting dust.

What the hell was that!?

Shen He kicked open the cockpit hatch, leapt out, and sprinted toward the center of the battlefield.

At level 24, each stride shot him forward dozens of meters—the few hundred meters were crossed in seconds.

"Master?" Jeanne asked cautiously, eyes fixed on the enemy, a hint of worry in her voice.

"I'm fine. That thing is… an 084?" Shen He blurted instinctively.

Through the flames, Alexander stood surrounded by an unknown energy field, cradling a metal device shaped like a camera. The terrifying beam had come from that thing.

Shen He recognized it immediately—a mysterious 084 artifact from the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series. Its single-user firepower was monstrous.

"You seem to know quite a lot."

Alexander didn't deny it. Even with his men being slaughtered behind him, his expression didn't change.

"So you came prepared—one defense, one offense." Shen He narrowed his eyes. "Did you really think this would let you escape?"

Silver-white liquid circled him, flowing like quicksilver.

It was the famous Moon Cell Essence, a five-star item he had drawn during his second ten-pull.

Which meant even if he hadn't ejected in time just now, his life wouldn't have been in danger.

"In truth, this preparation is enough to handle most crises." A faint smile appeared on Alexander's face. "When dealing with people who might know the future, one must be thorough. Now then… my offer still stands. Hydra's doctrine is the only one capable of protecting humanity from true crisis. Why must we kill each other?"

Behind them, the gunfire and explosions gradually decreased—Violet was almost done.

"Hey, Shen He." Shiki Ryōgi tightened her grip on her blade, annoyed. "How long do we have to listen to him babble?"

Her killing intent was boiling over. The Alexander before her was the perfect target.

"I'm tired of it too."

Shen He extended a hand.

The Moon Cell Essence flowed from around him to surround Shiki.

"Spell: Automatoportum (Automatic Defense)."

"I don't need that kind of thing."

Shiki laughed lazily, then accelerated—her figure becoming a streak of red wind rushing forward.

"Goodbye, Alexander…" Shen He whispered.

For the moment Shiki's blade touched the energy field, it passed through effortlessly, slicing across Alexander's neck as if it were paper. Blood gushed like a waterfall.

The great villain who had hidden in the shadows for over half a century died just like that—staring in disbelief.

Trying to talk about "defense" in front of the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception… that was the greatest joke of the century.

Shen He walked over, picked up the weapon, and fished a pendant from Alexander's corpse.

This pendant had generated the defensive field. In the Marvel world, Earth seemed littered with mysterious artifacts.

At the same time, Violet had finished cleaning up the last of the enemies.

The battlefield fell silent, save for the crackling flames.

"At least we finally took care of that guy." Shen He slipped the pendant into his pocket, glancing at the body. "Probably the easiest mid-boss so far… shame about my Mirage, though."

But as Shen He grew stronger and Tony's tech advanced, Mirage was bound to be replaced eventually. Dying on the battlefield wasn't a bad end for a weapon—better than gathering dust in a warehouse.

"Master, I'll go check the battlefield…" Jeanne lowered her head, discouraged.

She hadn't participated at all—she hadn't even managed to get a proper warning out.

"Mm." Shen He nodded. "Thanks to you, he didn't escape."

"How could that be… it was all Shiki and Violet who defeated him…" Jeanne shook her head.

Protecting her Master was a Servant's basic duty, and she hadn't even done that. Shen He had been placed in danger because of her.

Shen He didn't notice her self-blame.

He contacted Saiki Kusuo and Tony—both had stabilized their respective battlefields and were preparing to reinforce other areas.

But the offshore carrier base was steadily losing ground. It was too far—even Saiki couldn't reach it quickly.

"Tony, go to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy and protect the students," Shen He said after a moment's thought. "Hydra's leader is dead. They'll try to retreat and gather resources. And we need those resources too—especially the elite students at the Academy. Most of them idolize you."

"So it's time to show off my charm." Tony whistled. "What about you guys?"

"We're heading to the carrier base. I want to see if we can take control of it."

"The carrier? Heh, you know something like that can't be owned by a private individual," Tony said.

"I know." Shen He smiled. "But an invisible carrier… that's a different story."
