Gideon froze, his eyes locked on Summer, unable to react for a split second.
Summer stood quietly, one hand pressed to her stinging cheek. Instead of anger, a cold sneer curled in her heart. She could have blocked Danica, but she hadn't. This way, she could gain Gideon's sympathy easily.
Tears gathered in her eyes. She looked at Gideon, making a wrong face. "I shouldn't have come," she said shakily. "I don't want to be the cause of any misunderstanding. I'm sorry… I can't stay here anymore. I'll leave."
She turned toward the door.
Gideon reached out and caught her hand, stopping her. "You are not leaving," he said firmly. "The one who should go is Danica."
Inside, Summer smiled.
Everything was unfolding exactly as she had anticipated. This was how Danica always won Gideon over. Some tears, pitiful words, playing the victim, and Gideon's favor were on her side.
It was almost laughable.
