"I wasn't myself," Gideon went on, his chest tight. "I thought I had lost Summer forever. I was drunk. I didn't know what I was doing."
His voice trembled. "When I woke up the next morning, Danica was beside me. She said I… forced myself on her."
Adrian's fingers moved slightly.
"I'm sorry," Gideon said hoarsely. "I know an apology isn't enough. What I did was unforgivable—no punishment could ever make up for it."
He drew a shaky breath. "Because of that night, she gave birth to a boy. He is my son. I couldn't bring myself to abandon him. But Danica wants more. She wants me to marry her, to give our son a complete family."
Adrian's breathing grew faster.
Crushed beneath the weight of his guilt, Gideon kept his head lowered. He failed to notice the subtle change beside him. The grief he had buried for so long finally broke free.
