Gideon froze. For a second, Gideon forgot to breathe.
Noel wasn't asking for a toy. He wanted Summer in his life.
He lifted his eyes toward the kitchen, where Summer moved quietly. His throat bobbed as he swallowed. This was his desire, too – to claim Summer back. And he would do that at any cost. Since Noel also wanted her, his determination strengthened further.
He looked down at Noel and placed a gentle hand on his son's head. "You like her that much?" he asked softly.
Noel nodded with earnest enthusiasm.
Gideon's lips curved into a faint smile, unable to hide the warmth spreading through his chest. "I'll fulfil your wish."
Noel's entire face lit up. The fear that had once clouded his little eyes evaporated instantly, replaced by pure, innocent delight.
"Come over and eat while the food is still hot." Summer's voice echoed down the hallway.
