Darius stared at the building right in front of him, he could hear cheering from crowds. While Dain talked to muscular men who were in charge of the door, Darius observed his surroundings in silence.
His five senses were on high alert, the last thing he wanted was to get kidnapped.
"He-help,"
Darius turned his head towards the direction of the voice only to find a man with brutal injuries being dragged out by two men.
The man was badly beaten up and his clothes were soaked in blood.
Darius doubted the man could see properly because his eyes were swollen.
"Ignore him, he lost the competition," Dain muttered, he glanced at the man without an ounce of pity.
Darius tilted his head, "What competition?"
"Oh, just a life or death competition between two wrestlers," Dain replied with a faint smile, "I'll tell you about school once we are in.'
Darius stared at Dain for a moment before following him into the large building. Darius and Dain passed through a series of sweaty bodies before they finally found a seat that had a clear view.
The place stunk of sweat, blood, and armpits.
In the middle of the arena, there was a huge boxing ring with two opponents ready to face themselves.
"What is this place exactly," Darius said as he watched the two boxers in the ring stare at each other in determination.
Darius didn't know who would win but one thing was sure, it was going to be fucking bloody.
"You see that muscular man," Dain said pointing to the man who wore red shorts, "All the fights he ever engages in, he wins, he's brutal, or rather a savage,"
"The other man was brought in a month ago, ever since he came, he hasn't lost a fight," Dain explained with bubbling excitement.
Darius raised an eyebrow as he stared at the other man who wore black shorts.
What he wanted was for Dain to explain what he would expect in the school competition not a fight between deadly fight between two men.
As if sensing that Darius was getting annoyed, Dain quickly explained a few things.
"You should watch this match closely, you'll gain one or two useful fighting techniques."
"Who is that?" Darius asked. He stared at an old man dressed in gold, everything about the man screamed corruption.
"The owner of this place, he is an S-tier," Dain explained. Darius stared at the man for a moment, something did not feel quite right with that man
"Concentrate, the two nulls are about to fight,"
"The two nulls?" Darius repeated in surprise, the host had announced the start of the competition. The one in red was actively swinging his fists while his opponent swiftly dodged.
"Yes nulls, do you really think they would use anybody with systems for this kind of shit," Dain replied, his eyes not leaving the match for a moment, "This is an arena where nulls fight till death and the spectators gamble on who would win,"
Darius watched as the man with the black shorts started fighting back, the man with the black short delivered a deadly blow to the man with red shorts.
He watched as blood sprayed out of the nose of the man with red shorts. Right at that moment, Darius knew the man with the black shorts would win.
"Why nulls, I get that nulls don't have right but making them fight till death, that's weird," Darius said with a grunt. For some reason, he felt uncomfortable because he was a null himself.
"Well they signed up for this," Dain said with brimming excitement, his eyes not leaving the ring for a second, "they sign up because of shelter, food, and a few necessities,"
"So they risk their life cause of that," Darius stated as he watched the man in black shorts repeatedly punch his opponent in the nose. He watched in fascination as blood spewed out of the man in red shorts.
"They have no choice, it's not like they have food or anything, nulls are basically lower than pets, they are lower than dogs…they would cling to any opportunity of a better life even if it meant early death," Dain explained. Darius stared at Dain with a complicated expression.
The refree announced the man with the black shorts was the winner but Darius did not pay any attention to that instead he had began to dive deep into his thoughts.
Dain's words had just added to his knowledge of nulls. It seemed that he would make sure that no one ever found out about it.
If anyone found out, he wouldn't mind ending their life.
Darius suddenly frowned when he realized that he had just thought of killing someone. That was wrong, why was his train of thought like that.
He recalled what the old man had said to him. The old man had taken away his ability to feel empathy. He felt it was quite impossible but judging by the weird thing he had thought, did he really just exchange his ability to feel happy and stuff with power?
"So what do you wish to know about the school exam?" Dain asked, drawing Darius out of his train of thought.
Darius stared at Dain as he thought of various things.
"Everything," he replied with a grim face.
