Eve Sherman was startled and instinctively punched him, then retreated several steps.
Ryan Aldridge was stunned by her hit, then smiled and said, "Why is Miss Sherman so sensitive? I just wanted to express my thanks; this is a thank-you hug."
Eve Sherman knew that her expression had turned extremely unpleasant.
"Please have some self-respect. Zoe Sawyer is my good friend, and I won't allow you to have any ulterior motives towards her."
"No, no, she treats me so well, how could I ever let her down? You're overthinking it, Miss Sherman. I really didn't mean anything else, I just wanted to express some gratitude, after all, you weren't willing to have dinner with me."
Ryan Aldridge was still speaking, but Eve Sherman no longer had the mood to listen.
She got back into the car with a sullen face, completely missing Stella Sutton who had returned at some point.
