Ned pushed open the door. The owner heard the sound of the bell and poked his head out from behind the counter. "Mr. Harrington, your usual spot?"
"Yes, thank you."
They sat by the window. Outside was a narrow cobblestone path where occasional pedestrians passed by. The owner brought them two glasses of water and handed over the menus.
"Do you come here often?" Sophie asked.
"I used to come here a lot, but it's been many years since the last time."
They ordered their food and sat facing each other. A few seconds of silence passed.
"Sophie," Ned spoke first. "My divorce agreement with Yui officially took effect today."
Sophie's fingers paused on her cup. "Yui signed it?"
"She did. Yamamoto Jo couldn't drag it out any longer. He ran out of money."
"What about Emily?"
"Emily's custody goes to Yui, but Yui can't come to the UK and can't take her back to Japan."
"Where is Emily living now?"
