Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Jia Family and the Azure Sky Sect

"Jia Yi, how is your spiritual field doing?" an elderly voice sounded from nearby.

Jia Yi turned after he heard the familiar voice, he smiled, nodding to the visitor "Fifth uncle! My field is doing great as always, hahaha!"

His laughter was filled with genuine satisfaction and bragging.

The fifth uncle, Jia Miaoyu, also smiled happily when he heard this.

Neither of them was from a main lineages, so when Jia Yi first entered the family's fields, he was assigned to be taken care of by his fifth uncle.

He wasn't Jia Yi's fifth uncle, but his brother's children called him that, so Jia Yi also did so.

"Jia Yi, when it comes to other matters, you are humble, but when you talk about your fields, you always seem like a proud man looking at his talented children!" Miaoyu said, scolding this brat with a smile, as if he had said this countless times.

"Uncle, if you can't be proud of what you are best at, then you can't be proud at all! Since I'm so good at planting and farming, naturally I have to be proud of myself!" Jia Yi repeated the same old sentence.

The two laughed once more, before Miaoyu sensed something amiss and asked in surprise "Jia Yi you… did you advance to the seventh-stage?!"

"Haha, you finally noticed, uncle! Yes, yesterday when I was sleeping in the field, I suddenly had an inspiration and advanced to the late-stage of qi refining! Fortunately the spiritual power is abundant and I didn't destroy my field.

If there was any danger, I'd rather interrupt my cultivation than to harm the plants!" he answered honestly, becoming serious at the end of his sentence.

When Miaoyu heard the part about "gaining inspiration when sleeping in a field", he was surprised but had a face of "I expected this". When he heard the last part, he wanted to retort and scold, but knowing Jia Yi's love for the plants, he couldn't say anything and only sighed, then congratulated with all his heart.

"Jia Yi, I knew you were talented, but I didn't expect you to cultivate so fast! With your dual roots, you became a late-stage qi refining cultivator in just eight years!"

"Uncle, the number of roots doesn't matter. My wood root is 85% formed, and my water root is 70% formed. Especially my wood root is just a few percent off becoming a divine root, so if I was any slower, I would doubt the results and question whether I have somehow regressed!"

In the world of cultivation, every cultivator is born with five roots: water, wood, fire, earth and wind. The root has to be formed at least 10% to have a healthy body, and 30% to be able to cultivate.

30-50% are mysterious roots, 50-70% are prosperous roots, 70-90% are blessed roots, and 90-100% are divine roots.

"You are telling me this, but your peers, even those with a similar root, are still at the fifth-stage, the main lineage's children are at the sixth-stage, and only your cousin from the main lineage with a divine root became seventh-stage before you.

I don't believe you have no talent!"

"Uncle… my talent is in the field and has been revealed for so long, why do you act like it's a surprise now?" Jia Yi joked.

Instantly, Miaoyu realised and chuckled "You're right. In the field, you're really outmatched. I'm wrong for saying such a thing!"

Jia Yi smiled and didn't care. He then asked "Uncle, why are you here? Usually you are busy with your own ten acres, so how can you visit me randomly?"

Miaoyu didn't hide and answered "Jia Yi, it's like this. The families' spiritual ship is about to return, and I intend to send my little Xianghe to the sect this time. If she didn't go now, she would have to wait for at least five years and at most ten years.

My brother also intends to send Xianghu this time, so they would go together.

I thought you were close to the seventh stage and should also go, and since you're their elder brother and most mature, I wanted you to take them.

Now you're already at the seventh stage, and there is really no reason to stay behind."

Jia Yi heard this and nodded "Xianghu already became a sixth-stage cultivator? Well that's good. This way, he will be fine cultivating four or five acres. As for Xianghe, don't worry, even if she's lacking a bit, I will make sure to take care of her!"

Miaoyu breathed a sigh of relief, especially after having seen Jia Yi's cultivation.

The two talked a bit more before Miaoyu departed.

While Jia Yi was watering the plants, his thoughts churned.

'It's really a blessing for my Jia sect to be so closely integrated with the Azure Cloud sect. Although several other families emerged from the sect's disciples, only my families' third-generation ancestor, Genyu, returned to the sect after advancing to the fourth stage, establishing a secondary mountain and moving the core lineages back to the sect.

Since then, the family has gained various privileges. Everyone with at least a prosperous root is allowed to enter the sect and become an outer disciple with no further examination, and the path upward is also extremely easy.

Although we have a few more restrictions compared to examined disciples, we also enjoy more privileges and have a secure backing in the sect, only second to the valley and cloud elders.'

Whenever he thought of this, he was thankful for the third-generation ancestor Genyu. Only because of her rise from a collateral branch to the ancestor, did the family have a harmonious atmosphere and a close relation to the Azure cloud sect.

Although some called them Wood Dogs behind their backs, neither the ancestors nor the younger disciples cared.

After all, when you are weaker, it doesn't matter whether you are a dog or a human, you will still be stamped to death like an ant in front of a giant.

Naturally being indifferent doesn't mean they didn't do anything.

Just see whether these people can still buy anything from their Jia family…

Thinking of this, Jia Yi laughed once more.

"Although you call us dogs, you still have to buy rice and corn from us in the end."

The Azure Cloud sect was a formidable sect specialised in spiritual farming, and each of their branches had various specialities.

As a closely-integrated family, the Jia family was counted as an internal branch and could develop their own speciality – Rice and Corn, the basic food everyone ate.

There were various other lower branches and outside families who also farmed rice and corn, but their variants could never dominate the rankings, neither the lower, nor the middle and upper.

The Jia family personally served their rice to the supreme elders of the sect!
