"Boom, boom, boom—"
As the massive mushroom clouds rose, dust swept across all of Tai City. Several sectors that had already fallen were turned into gigantic craters, each stretching several kilometers across and a hundred meters deep. Seen from the sky, what had once been a continuous sea of the Dark Army suddenly had several huge gaps blasted out of it. No one knew how many of the Dark Army's Digimon had been erased in that one strike.
All across Tai City, there were only toppled skyscrapers, ruins, and shattered mechanical soldiers and their scattered parts. The Digimon of the Dark Army, once killed, simply turned back into data and dispersed into the air.
On the roof of a huge structure in Tai City, the top slowly opened, revealing a Digimon with a completely crimson body. The twin cannons on its back rose up over its head with the grinding sound of machinery.
"Hyper Infinity Cannon!"
Boom! Boom!
Two ultra-powerful, high-density energy waves shot out, hurtling straight toward the largest body on the battlefield—Leviamon. But they didn't stop there. The cannons on Chaosdramon's back kept spitting out wave after high-density energy wave, and the firing speed grew faster and faster, to the point that the next blast was ready to fire the instant the last shell left the barrel. The unbroken stream of high-density energy waves swept across Sector Eight, where Leviamon was rampaging, and then began a second round of saturation fire. What had once been a district of skyscrapers was razed to barren wasteland; under such overwhelming firepower, not even rubble could remain intact.
"Raaaahhh!"
Leviamon roared, rage filling his voice. His blood-red eyes glared at Chaosdramon standing on the distant rooftop.
He opened his gigantic maw and spat out a jet of black flames, shattering the incoming energy waves, but even more waves were still surging toward him. A black energy pillar and the flood of golden energy waves slammed into each other again and again, exploding in midair. The shockwaves alone cracked buildings far away into spiderwebs of fractures.
"Flame Inferno!"
Off to the side, Daemon unleashed a blazing path of flame that surged toward Chaosdramon. Chaosdramon's left arm, clad in Red Digizoid, rotated and reconfigured into a massive cannon barrel that fired a golden energy blast straight into Flame Inferno. The two attacks collided head-on, neither giving ground, detonating again and again between them.
"Evil Sigh!"
High above, Lilithmon launched her attack. Several streams of dark breath, trailing black smoke, poured down toward Chaosdramon. On Chaosdramon's back, the Red Digizoid armor panels flipped up, revealing the missile launcher nestled between the twin cannons, and dozens of missiles screamed up toward Lilithmon in the sky.
With a flick of her right hand, Lilithmon snapped her whip and smashed the incoming missiles one by one in midair, then cracked the whip again, lashing it down toward Chaosdramon.
But when the whip struck Chaosdramon's body, it didn't leave so much as a scratch. The hardness of Red Digizoid was no joke.
Meanwhile, on the other side, they had once again gathered their power to strike Millenniummon, but the result was the same as before—Millenniummon reappeared yet again.
"How is that possible?"
Taichi's face turned pale. That last strike had gathered most of his strength, and he had watched MoonMillenniummon die with his own eyes—yet now it stood before him once more. He simply couldn't believe it.
"Hahaha, hahahaha!"
MoonMillenniummon's two heads laughed wildly, four eyes fixed firmly on Taichi.
Taichi gritted his teeth, and the blade of the Holy Sword: Grade Alpha twisted slightly in his hand, shining with a ray of light.
"Urrraaaah!"
With a shout, Taichi swung the sword down with all his might. A Sword of Annihilation shot straight toward the still-laughing MoonMillenniummon—but MoonMillenniummon didn't even try to dodge, its faces full of open provocation.
Boom!
Flames shot up into the sky, and the blast wave kicked up clouds of dust. When Taichi focused his gaze, he saw MoonMillenniummon's body crack open, the fissures rapidly spreading before it once again dissipated into the wind. The ground around it, within a radius of several hundred meters, was now a deep pit tens of meters down.
But Taichi did not let his guard down. Sure enough, he sensed danger rushing him from behind. He leaned sharply to the left, dodging a lance of red light, and when he turned around, MoonMillenniummon was just standing there again, laughing madly with not a single wound on its body.
"How can this be…?"
Taichi clenched the Holy Sword: Grade Alpha in his hand, feeling, for the first time, completely at a loss.
Elsewhere, UlforceVeedramon, though controlled by MoonMillenniummon, had completely lost his reason. Unable to wield more than thirty or forty percent of his full power, he had already been forced down and pinned by GranKuwagamon. The huge pincers held UlforceVeedramon pressed to the ground, unable to move, and he could only roar again and again. On the sidelines, Ken and Ryo kept shouting UlforceVeedramon's name.
Omnimon's entire body armor of Omega Digizoid opened, revealing the weapon ports brimming with Omega Missiles.
"Omega Storm!"
Hundreds of Omega Missiles slammed into MoonMillenniummon's outer shell, punching one massive hole after another into the Digizoid plating all over its body.
"This will be the finishing blow."
Omnimon spoke as he raised the Omega Sword in his hand and charged toward MoonMillenniummon's heavily damaged, fallen husk.
On the other side, MoonMillenniummon was still laughing wildly.
Finally, when it had laughed enough, its four eyes burned with ferocity as it stared at Taichi.
"You cannot kill me. I can summon myself from any point in time to be reborn. I am immortal."
"You can keep reviving forever…?"
Taichi murmured, "It's true that in that case, killing you is almost impossible. But sometimes, killing you would actually be the simplest option."
As he spoke, Taichi suddenly hurled the Holy Sword: Grade Alpha high into the air. The tip of the blade pointed down as it descended toward MoonMillenniummon. As the sword fell, the Digicode sigils on the blade lit up one after another.
MoonMillenniummon still looked at Taichi with mocking eyes, as if watching a clown perform.
"You can't kill me. I literally just told you that. How did you forget so quickly?"
The Holy Sword: Grade Alpha stabbed into the joint between MoonMillenniummon's two heads. Taichi gathered all the remaining energy in his body, compressing it into his chest. The golden energy turned into Digicode sigils that flowed like a stream toward the hilt of the Holy Sword embedded in MoonMillenniummon. From there, the sigils spiraled down the blade and spread across MoonMillenniummon's entire body.
MoonMillenniummon, who had been staring at Taichi with eyes full of ridicule, suddenly went pale as the sigils wrapped around it.
"What did you do?! Stop! Stop it right now!"
Four chains formed from cyan Digicode sigils coiled around MoonMillenniummon, weaving into a prison of chains that bound it in place, leaving it unable to move.
MoonMillenniummon roared again and again, but that was all it could do. Taichi kept pouring what little energy remained in his body into Digicode sigils to reinforce the seal. After the fierce battle earlier, he had already burned through most of his power, and now he was only barely hanging on. Sweat covered his forehead, but he didn't dare relax for a second, gritting his teeth and forcing out every last bit of energy in his body.
At last, the four cyan Digicode chains fully took shape, locking MoonMillenniummon's body down so tightly it couldn't move an inch. To be honest, if MoonMillenniummon hadn't been so careless this time, Taichi really wouldn't have had much confidence in defeating him. An enemy who could summon versions of himself from different points in time to achieve endless resurrection was simply too much to ask anyone to completely erase. Fortunately, because of MoonMillenniummon's arrogance this time, they had managed to seal him away.
Letting out a long sigh of relief, Taichi fell from the sky and collapsed onto the ground. He was utterly exhausted, with not even a shred of energy left in his body. To fully seal MoonMillenniummon, Taichi had literally emptied himself of power.
Just as Taichi was thinking that MoonMillenniummon was finally dealt with, a black vortex suddenly opened up beneath the bound Digimon and swallowed it whole.
Still fighting alongside Lilithmon and Leviamon to besiege Chaosdramon, Daemon allowed himself a thin smile.
"Retrieval successful, Lord Millenniummon. Looks like you're not all that impressive after all. I should make my own preparations. These idiots can stay here and wait to die."
"What?!"
Taichi tried to push himself up using the Holy Sword: Grade Alpha as a crutch, but his strength was completely spent. He simply couldn't stand. In his current state, he had no combat ability whatsoever. All he could do was watch as MoonMillenniummon was swallowed by the vortex from the Dark Area.
"Forget it… At least MoonMillenniummon is sealed. Even if someone wants to release him, it won't be easy. At the very least, the Digital World has earned itself a long period of peace."
But Taichi knew that the Digicode used to seal MoonMillenniummon came from the Digi-Cards. He doubted any Digimon currently in existence could undo this chain seal. That much confidence he still had. As for the future… who could say? The things that haven't happened yet are unknowable.
With no regard for his image at all, Taichi simply lay flat on the ground, hoping his energy would recover even just a little faster so he could regain the ability to move sooner.
Over on the other front, Omnimon's Omega Sword struck the empty shell of Millenniummon that was still moving purely on instinct.
Squelch.
The Omega Sword pierced into what was left of MoonMillenniummon's shell. With a feeble wail, Millenniummon began to fade away from the point where the blade had impaled it.
At that moment, UlforceVeedramon finally regained his senses, and GranKuwagamon released him.
UlforceVeedramon stood up, completely confused.
"Why were you pinning me down like that, GranKuwagamon?"
GranKuwagamon was just about to answer when Millenniummon, which had faded until only half its body remained, suddenly opened its eyes. Its mouth gaped, and it fired a black beam of light straight into UlforceVeedramon, who had just stood up and was utterly defenseless. Before the stunned eyes of GranKuwagamon and Omnimon, the desperate final strike from Millenniummon blasted a huge hole through UlforceVeedramon's chest.
Then what remained of Millenniummon's body abruptly shattered, turning into countless black particles that flew off in all directions. Omnimon swung the Omega Sword in his right hand again and again, trying to block these Dark Seeds, but there were simply too many of them, and some still slipped through the defensive circle Omnimon had formed.
"Look out!"
Ken saw one Dark Seed flying straight toward Ryo and quickly shoved him out of the way, but his own neck was struck instead. Ken felt a sharp pain in his neck, and then everything went black as he fainted.
