Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: Operation: Annihilate Moon=Millenniummon

Tai forced himself to keep pouring power into the barrier created by God's Protection, the magic shield straining to hold back Moon=Millenniummon's barrage. The hyper–mega energy waves fired from the Infinite Cannons on Moon=Millenniummon's back had already sealed the entire space so tightly there wasn't a single gap left to dodge through. Right now, all Tai could do was grit his teeth and maintain the barrier—he had no way to launch any kind of counter-attack at all.

At last, Moon=Millenniummon's Infinite Cannons stopped firing. The region that had been drowned in fire and smoke finally saw light again. Tai's cloak had been charred in patches, holes punched through here and there by the blasts, and parts of his once-golden armor were cracked and shattered.

Omnimon was in even worse shape. His cloak was torn to rags, the WarGreymon-side Brave Sword had snapped in half, the MetalGarurumon-side Garuru Cannon on his left arm had completely disappeared, his body was covered in wounds, and only the center horn remained on his helmet.

"Omnimon! Omnimon!" Matt shouted, his voice echoing. The cry even startled the people in the barbershop around him.

"Even Omnimon lost…" Izzy muttered, looking a little hollow-eyed.

"Don't give up, Izzy!" Tentomon quickly tried to comfort his partner.

"Big brother, are you okay? Answer me, big brother!" Kari threw herself toward the computer, shouting at the top of her lungs.

"Haa… haa…" Tai panted heavily, lungs burning. The energy consumption really was brutal this time.

On the other side, the Infinite Cannons on Moon=Millenniummon's back started spinning up again.

"Tai! Omnimon! Watch out!" Matt saw that and practically roared the warning.

"Infinity Cape!"

Moon=Millenniummon compressed time itself, creating a bizarre pocket of distorted space, then loaded that pocket into the Infinite Cannons on its back and fired it straight at the gravely wounded Omnimon, who couldn't move.

"Divided Space!"

Moon=Millenniummon then layered another ability onto Infinity Cape, making time endlessly repeat within that pocket, shredding the surrounding space over and over. Everywhere it passed, ripples spread and even the fabric of space itself cracked apart.

Tai darted in front of the immobilized Omnimon just in time. In front of Kari and the others' anxious stares, he crossed his arms before his chest. A silver Magic Shield—"Avalon"—blossomed into existence and slammed into the oncoming black energy round, ripples spreading across the surface of the shield.

"Heh-heh…" Moon=Millenniummon let out a sinister chuckle. The four Infinite Cannons on its back blasted out four black beams that converged in front of it into a single colossal energy wave, merging with the existing black projectile. The combined blast swelled in power; Tai felt the pressure spike, the light-wall slamming into his forearms and hurling him bodily back into Omnimon's chest.

Tai gritted his teeth and poured even more energy into Avalon, forcing the shield to inch forward—but Moon=Millenniummon's power shoved it back almost immediately. Then Moon=Millenniummon opened its jaws and spat another beam of energy, further increasing the force pushing against them.

Tai couldn't hold it anymore. He and the Omnimon behind him were driven back at high speed, unable to stop themselves.

"Big brother…" Kari whispered, voice shaking.

At that moment, even she didn't notice a strand of golden light shine out from her chest, streak across the room into Izzy's computer, and slip silently into the network without anyone in the room realizing.

Just when Tai's arms were going numb and his energy reserves were nearly drained dry, an enormous power suddenly surged up around them. The countless emails piling up inside Izzy's computer stacked themselves layer upon layer around Tai and Omnimon, wrapping them in a cocoon of light. Every message glowed with a soft golden radiance that enveloped Omnimon and erased Moon=Millenniummon's attack as if it had never been.

Bathed in that golden light, Omnimon felt a vast strength pour through his body, overflowing from within.

"Omnimon, Transcendent Form—shift!"

When Omnimon appeared before everyone again, his entire appearance had changed. The cloak behind him had turned gold, covered in intricate, mysterious Digicode sigils. Golden and blue patterns ran all across his armor. His right arm had transformed into the Omega Blade—a holy sword formed from the fusion of Brave Sword and Garuru Sword—and his left arm had become the ultimate defensive weapon, the Omega Shield.

"Tai… thank you," Omnimon said gratefully. Then he swung his arm; the Omega Shield on his left arm began to shift and reconfigure, transforming into the Omega Cannon.

"Now it's my turn. Omega Cannon—fire!"

A massive golden energy beam erupted from the Omega Cannon, slamming straight into Moon=Millenniummon and hammering it backward until it smashed into the edge of the space.

"Hiss-haa!" Moon=Millenniummon roared, spreading its four chrome digizoid claws, bracing them against the golden wave from Omega Cannon. Power surged through its body and gathered in its arms, so intense that sparks of energy leaked off and crackled through the air.

Dark energy welled up around Moon=Millenniummon's claws, pushing back against the Omega Cannon. Black and gold collided and tangled together, the clashing energies forming a seething mass between them. The shockwaves tore the surrounding space apart into ragged shards.

"Infinity Cape!"

The Infinite Cannons on Moon=Millenniummon's back fired again—not as scattered blasts this time, but as a single black-and-crimson energy stream, all four cannons merging their output into one beam that hurtled straight toward Omnimon, who was already fighting at full throttle.

Tai rushed up beside him, lifting his left arm. The golden armor flowed along it, reconfiguring into the Holy Crossbow "Muspelheim of the Land of Flames." With a point of his arm, a scorching light-arrow shot forth, the armor's energy continuously pouring into the crossbow to sustain the beam.

There was a soundless impact as the blazing arrow struck the oncoming Infinity Cape blast. There was no noise at all—but even the residual waves of force were enough to rip the surrounding space into tatters.

In the middle of the battlefield, Moon=Millenniummon, Omnimon, and Tai were all outputting power at their absolute limit. Any stray thought could mean defeat. All over the world, people watched this battle with bated breath, fixated on their screens, hardly daring to exhale for fear of disturbing something.

The black cracks in space opened and closed again and again. At last, the tearing of space reached a critical point. Tai and Omnimon both sensed something was wrong, but there was nothing they could do—only watch as the space around them shattered into countless pieces.

"What is that…?" Out of the corner of his eye, Tai caught sight of what lay within the rifts and went pale. "Infinity Mountain—that's the Digital World!"

He had no time to think. The entire space collapsed completely. Moon=Millenniummon, Omnimon, and Tai all plunged straight down into the Digital World.

Steadying himself in midair, Tai immediately fell into a guarded stance, focusing on Moon=Millenniummon across from him. Omnimon charged in with the Omega Blade raised high.

One of Moon=Millenniummon's claws met the Omega Blade head-on with a ringing clang.

"What? No way!" Omnimon's eyes widened. In the Digital World, the Omega Blade's sharpness ranked near the very top, yet it couldn't cut through Moon=Millenniummon's claw at all.

"Mouth Cannon!"

Moon=Millenniummon opened its jaws wide and unleashed a beam of energy straight into Omnimon's torso. Caught off guard, Omnimon was blasted away, slammed into the ground, and gouged out a massive crater, dust and debris billowing skyward.

Tai's expression hardened. Digicode letters began to swirl around his right hand, flowing in a steady ring. When their motion stabilized, he thrust his hand forward and tore a hole in space itself. He gripped something and yanked—pulling a golden blade out of the rift: the Holy Sword, Genesis Blade.

"Finally, I can really let you cut loose," Tai murmured under his breath.

"Ha ha! Watch how amazing I am!" Moon=Millenniummon bellowed. The Infinite Cannons on its back started firing again, flooding the air with endless streams of hyper–mega energy waves that streaked outward in all directions toward Tai and the still-dazed Omnimon.

Now that they'd fallen into the Digital World, the size of the battlefield had expanded dramatically. Even though there were still countless blasts, Tai and Omnimon now had room to maneuver and could dodge with relative ease.

As he dodged, Tai kept firing off arcs of destructive power from the Genesis Blade—Gravity Waves that exploded wherever they landed. Omnimon also counter-fired with bursts from the Omega Cannon whenever he found an opening.

Back and forth they went, hyper–mega energy waves, Omega Cannon bursts, and Gravity Waves streaking out in all directions and slamming into the Digital World below.

In one forest, a Chuumon was wandering along when its ears caught a faint, low humming. It stopped and glanced toward the sound. What filled its vision was a fireball growing rapidly larger. Chuumon didn't even have time to shout before the blazing mass engulfed it. In the roar of fire and smoke, its body was instantly reduced to ash.

Everything within a radius of several dozen kilometers around the impact point vanished, leaving behind a chasm hundreds of meters deep. Scenes like this were playing out all across the Digital World—countless Digimon of all levels, from Champion to Ultimate, were erased by attacks that seemed to come from nowhere.

Seen from high above, the entire Digital World was dotted with flashing explosions and rising pillars of smoke. Digimon everywhere were fleeing in panic, running from attacks whose origin and timing they couldn't even discern—yet still, screams rang out as more were struck by stray blasts, crying out once before turning into data and vanishing.

Tai had no time to think about any of that. If they didn't destroy Moon=Millenniummon, the Digital World was doomed anyway. And their fight was no longer just exchange of energy blasts—Moon=Millenniummon had begun to rain down Infinity Capes from its Infinite Cannons. Those attacks, which compressed time and created warped pockets of space, fell across the Digital World and silently corroded it, boring out colossal pits wherever they landed.

Before Tai and the others had even fallen into the Digital World, two kids and their two partner Digimon were hurrying along a path.

"What's that?" one of the boys asked, staring at the sky in confusion.

All four of them looked up. Not far away, the sky over the Digital World split open, revealing a huge black hole. Then three Digimon dropped out of it.

Almost immediately, they split into two sides and started trading blows. From where the kids stood, they could see countless missiles flying in every direction, slamming into the Digital World on all sides.

"What on earth is going on…?"

"That's Millenniummon," one boy said, pointing at the twisted, monstrous Digimon face. His expression had gone dead serious.

"What is it?" the other boy asked.

"It's the embodiment of darkness—a Digimon that's the most evil existence in the history of the Digital World. No, it's probably the most evil thing in any Digital World." The first boy's face was grave as he spoke.

"In that case… go, Wormmon."

"Got it, Ken."

"Let's go, Veemon."

"I'm on it, Ryo!"

With that, the two boys' partner Digimon began to Digivolve, getting ready to join the battle against Moon=Millenniummon.
