Chapter 26 - Setting Boundaries

Jia didn't wait for permission.

She knelt by his side in a heartbeat.

"What exactly happened?" She demanded, her sharp gaze lifting to the startled attendants. "Did anyone see him fall?"

One of the attendants hesitated, his hands clasped nervously in front of him. "I don't know what happened, Miss. He said he felt dizzy and–"

"Of course he did," she cut in, irritation threading through her voice as she shifted her grip to support the prince's head, so it wouldn't loll helplessly to one side. "He just clawed his way back from a near-fatal accident and has been forcing his body to cooperate since dawn."

"Is… he alright?"

Jia looked up, her eyes meeting Prince Hugo's across the space. He stood inside the shade of the pavilion, his posture straight and everly-composed, yet she did not miss the brief flicker of concern that crossed his features before the mask of indifference settled back into place.

He also made no move to approach his brother.

"Is it anything serious?"
