Chapter 290 - V5 Chapter 35: Fourth Champion

Going back in time a bit to when Cassius first left the great hall.

The room not sounding out in cheers save for the handful of girls from House Draconis, was quiet.

Having done his part, Dumbledore once more took up the mantle as master of cermonies, spreading his arms wide.

"Excellent, we now have our three champions!"

His expression remained composed.

In the background Crouch Senior moved to place an object under wraps onto the dias at the head of the teachers table.

"But in the end only one will go down in history, only one will hoist this chalice of champions, this vessel of victory."

Spinning 180' and pointing his wand, causing the cloth to fly off revealing the trophy cup hidden underneath.

Its pale blue crystal illuminated, while Goblin silver decorated the base and handles like three different dragon heads having split off from one single winding tail at the base.

"The TriWizard Cup!"

The sight of which caused the entire room to sound off in racous cheers as students called out their favored champion to win the contest and by way the cup itself.

But as everyones attention was drawn to the revealed cup, in the opposite direction, a handful of attentions were being gathered.

The Goblet of fire, began to spit sparks.

Tendrils of blue flash lashing out from within, some even circling the goblet itself.

Dumbledore himself saw the look on Snapes face and turned round to watch, seeing this the others all joined him in watching the Goblet once more.

The flickering blue flame continued to roil and build up before, finally transforming once more into the scarlet flames, and simulating a volcanic eruption as it shot up from the goblet, before terminating, but not before leaving behind a single piece of scorched paper that began fluttering its way down through the air.

It floated almost lazily through the air, flipping and rolling as it descended.

The Great Hall watched in utter silence.

Dumbledore caught it his eyes dropped to the writing.

Then widened.

His face paling, as he glanced up looking at Severus, and Lily before once more returning to the paper he held in hand.

Around the hall confusion spread rapidly awaiting word from their headmaster, or host.

Dumbledore remained perfectly still.

The parchment trembled faintly between his fingers.

Finally—

His voice was noticeably quieter.

"...Harry Potter."

Nothing happened.

Not immediately.

The hall simply stared, some students began looking around or whispering gently.

Harry himself hadn't moved.

He remained seated among the Griffindors, much prefering their company to those of his own house, looking as though someone else had just been named.

Seeing no one stand up, Dumbledores voice cried out once more.

"HARRY POTTER!"

Harry hearing this tried to shrink himself down pretending to not be here, or even being asleep at the moment.

But that was ruined as Seamus behind him kicked him in the tailbone, causing the young boy to shoot to his feet.

"No... No..." Hagrid tried to deny,

While nearby him, Lily who had just been gloating happily now bore the face of a women whose lover had just cheated on her right in front of her face.

"HARRY POTTER!"

Dumbledore cried out once more, his voice tinged with anger, his eyes locked on the standing harry in the stands.

Left with no choice harry descended, walking down the seating steps, and across the hall to Dumbledores outstretched hand, grabbing the offered up piece of paper.

Taking the still smouldering piece in his hand, Harry glanced down and almost immediately his head shot right back up to look at the headmaster.

In his hand on a piece of lined paper was his name.

What came next was just a reaction, mechanically his legs began to walk towards the stairs as all eyes were locked on his form.

As he crossed the Great Hall, whispers erupted once more.

Only whispers at first.

Then—

"He a cheat!"

"He's only fourteen too!"

The accusations multiplied rapidly once more though less than in the origional work due to many questioning if Harry was a hidden genius like Cassius was before him.

On his lonely walk under scrutiny and suspicion the only hand reaching out in support was Professor McGonagal who gentle rested her hand on his shoulder as he passed by, giving him a simple look of pity.

Before he like the others before him walked down the stone steps from the hall and towards the trophy room where the others were gathered.

His mind racing as he tried to make sense of everything that was going on.

Just moments ago he was happy, surrounded by his friends and classmates.

Prepared to cheer on for Viktor Krum to win the whole damned thing even though his heart told him he should be rooting for Hogwarts champion.

And the next, he had once more become the school pariah, just like it was during his second year of school after being revealed to be a parselmouth during dueling practice.

From behind him he could hear various shouts and arguments along with a cacophony of voices from the other assembled students, while in front of him there was only a pale orange glow, and simple tinkering and chiming of the various trophies.

As he reached the bottom fo the stairs, the decorative gate opened up for him allowing passage, and he could see among the dozens if not hundreds of awards the school had acquired over its long and storied history, Viktor Krum seated on a couch head bowed low, gaze intensely locked on the fire raging within the floo.

While further off in the back quarter of the room, Cassius stood almost like a statue though a condescending smile which harry would like to wipe off with a good swipe or two.

Next to him and tightly clinging to his arm was the knockout bombshell French beauty Fleur, who didn't even bat an eye about Harry's entrance he entire focus locked onto Cassius without a care in the world for anyone else.

From behind raised voice which at first were distant began to get louder and louder.

"Everythings a conspiracy with you!"

"I protest, I Protest!"
