After the screening of the movie "The Sixth Sense," Zane invited the main team members to dinner at a super fancy, three-star Michelin restaurant.
What? You think you need a reservation weeks in advance?
That's a bit of a joke!
Even though those fancy restaurants say you need to book a month ahead, that's mostly just hype to make themselves sound extra special.
And who is Zane? He's a famous billionaire!
Even though the news was making fun of him for buying into the Titanic movie, he was still a big-shot celebrity. With just one phone call, Zane could get a table at pretty much any fancy restaurant in Los Angeles.
The table was filled with top-class food: steak, red wine, caviar, and more. Zane wanted to treat his team right. He was happy to spend money on his friends and wanted to celebrate their hard work.
Bruce Willis raised his glass to Zane. "Thank you, Mr. Blackwood, for asking me to be in 'The Sixth Sense.'"
Zane smiled and waved his hand. "Oh, you're too polite. It was Victor and Shyamalan's great idea to choose you. But after watching the movie, I have to say, you really amazed me. You're famous for being a 'tough guy,' but you were amazing in this."
"Thank you!" Bruce Willis sighed. "I'm really grateful they gave me this chance. For over ten years, I've mostly just done action movies. Even if the audience wasn't tired of it, I was."
Zane nodded, understanding completely. All of Bruce's big movies, like Die Hard, were action films. People thought that was all he could do.
"I, Bruce Willis, can do more than just action roles," Bruce said, sounding proud.
The two of them, Bruce and Zane, chatted like old friends and drank several glasses of wine. Victor and Director Shyamalan also joined in, and the mood at the table was wonderful.
"Mr. Blackwood, I'd like to make a toast to you, too," Angelina Jolie said with a smile.
"Okay," Zane said, turning to her.
Zane smiled, genuinely charmed. He thought she was a very talented actress and had a real star quality. Angelina Jolie was no pushover. She was smart, strong, and was going to be a huge star one day.
She had gotten the part in the movie because she was a good actress and her price was low. But Zane knew she was the perfect fit.
After they all finished their drinks, Zane found himself thinking about what a great night it was.
It turned out that sometimes, you can overthink things. Zane was just trying to be a good boss and have a nice dinner.
But after they left the restaurant, Zane, who was a little dizzy from the wine, left with Angelina. Victor and the others smiled and waved, teasing him a little.
The next day, when Zane woke up, he realized he'd had a pretty wild night. On the floor of his bedroom, clothes were scattered everywhere. And right next to him, Angelina Jolie was still fast asleep.
"Oh... wow," Zane said to himself, a little surprised. "I... didn't expect that."
He was genuinely surprised it had been so simple.
Zane didn't realize that even though Angelina had been married for a year, her marriage wasn't perfect. They were mostly living their own lives.
Zane had been so focused on work that he didn't have a lot of experience with things like this. He had underestimated his own charm. He was good-looking, the boss of a movie company, and very, very rich. For an actress in Hollywood, he was a real diamond-tier bachelor.
...
After spending a few more days with Angelina, Zane went back to work.
He went to Wald Pictures and had a long meeting with Victor about The Sixth Sense.
The movie was set to be released in theaters on November 14th.
It was going to be a tough fight. Their movie was opening at the same time as a bunch of other big movies, like Starship Troopers, Anastasia, The Jackal, Alien: Resurrection, and Flubber.
The Thanksgiving holiday was a very crowded time for movies. It was almost impossible to find a weekend where you weren't competing with a big studio.
"Victor, I'm leaving all the ads, the theater previews, and the fan screenings to you," Zane said, putting a trusting hand on Victor's shoulder. "I trust you and your team completely. You guys are the experts."
"Okay, boss," Victor said with a confident smile.
Zane truly did trust Victor. That's why he was happy to let Victor handle it all.
Besides, Zane had other things to do.
"The new albums by Eminem and Beyoncé should be finished," he thought to himself. "I need to go check them out and show them some support! I want them to know their boss cares about them."
