Chapter 467 - Anchor

I didn't care that I was drunk. I didn't care that the whiskey was burning a hole in my gut or that my head felt like it was splitting right down the middle.

I just sat there on the cold hardwood floor of my living room, my back leaning against the couch, with Cyan sitting right beside me.

Having him here... breathing, real, warm... kept the room from spinning completely off its axis.

Cyan was the one person I didn't have to lie to. He was the one person who knew what I looked like when the armor cracked, when the money and the power and the endless boardroom battles didn't mean a damn thing.

He was my anchor. He always had been.

After he said those quiet words 'I guess we're both unlucky tonight' he reached over and pulled the cigarette right out of my fingers.

He didn't ask. He just brought it to his lips, took a slow, deep drag, and blew a thin cloud of grey smoke up toward the high ceiling.
