"Sounds like quite the trip," Leo smiled, his eyes fixed on my face. He leaned in a little closer over the table, his tone dropping into something warmer, softer.
"Well, I'm glad you're back in the city now. Otherwise, I wouldn't be sitting across from the prettiest guy in L'Étoile tonight."
I felt my cheeks flare up all over again.
"You're a really good flatterer, you know that?"
"It's not flattery if it's true," Leo said softly, his hazel eyes locking onto mine with a steady, unmistakable heat.
The waiter returned with our food, placing plates of seared scallops, artisanal bread, and delicate pasta between us.
As we ate, the conversation flowed so naturally I almost forgot how terrified I'd been twenty minutes ago.
Leo was easy to talk to.
He talked about his family, he had an older sister who was a veterinarian and younger twin brothers who were currently terrorizing their parents in college.
