Chapter 426 - A real bite

"You're so boring," Cyan murmured, stretching like a cat on top of me. "Noah would have at least celebrated winning. You just sit there looking like a headmaster."

The mention of Noah's name hit me like a splash of cold water. My fingers clenched into fists against my knees. "If I'm so boring, why did you bring me here?"

Cyan didn't answer right away. He reached up, his slim fingers catching the edge of my sweatshirt, pulling at the fabric idly.

"Because I wanted an excuse to spend time with you."

My heart did a strange, sudden flip against my ribs. I stared down at him, caught completely off guard by how simple the words were. No jokes, no sarcastic laugh. Just a plain fact.

"You look surprised," Cyan chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Did you think I dragged you into a gunfight for fun?"

"You could have just called me," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "You didn't have to drag me to that place."
