Professor McGonagall was indeed remarkable. Her feat of rebuking the toad in class spread quickly and became widely known throughout Hogwarts.
Not only the students but even the professors gave Professor McGonagall a thumbs up.
Of course, some people didn't dare openly praise Professor McGonagall, as not everyone had the courage to confront the Senior Investigator from the Ministry of Magic.
A momentary relief is one thing, but offending Professor Umbridge, now that's truly asking for trouble.
They thought they wouldn't see Umbridge for a while, but to the students' surprise, in the next class, they saw traces of Professor Umbridge again.
As they headed across the lawn to the Magical Creatures Protection Class, they found her standing with her clipboard next to Professor Scamander, waiting for them.
"You're actually a writer, only temporarily assigned by Dumbledore to be a professor, right?"
Professor Umbridge asked Newt, yet Newt didn't even look at her, instead staring aside.
The captured Tree-Protecting Lofas were fighting over and munching on earth beetles, resembling countless living branches.
Professor Umbridge had done her homework beforehand. She heard from the grapevine that Mr. Newt Scamander's Boggart is the fear of sitting in an office facing countless tedious tasks.
So, facing these students, isn't that just countless tedious tasks?
Oh yes, and troublesome.
"You could say that." Newt answered, not lifting his head as he poked the Tree-Protecting Lofa.
Professor Umbridge immediately put on an official expression as she scribbled on her clipboard.
"I don't know if it's just an illusion..." Hermione frowned at Harry, "but I feel like I see the shadow of Rita Skeeter in Umbridge..."
"Don't say it, really don't." Ron nodded in agreement, "I kind of feel the same way... Do you think she's planning some big news?"
"That, I don't know." Hermione rubbed her temples and said, "But Professor Scamander and Principal Dumbledore have always had a good relationship. I don't think Umbridge can fabricate any big news."
Over there, Professor Umbridge was still asking questions.
"I heard that you really dislike doing tedious work?" she probed.
"Yes." Newt was entirely focused on the Tree-Protecting Lofa, "But that's no secret, of course... tedious work depends on what it is. If it's caring for magical animals, I'm quite willing... Of course, if it's like Theseus, sitting in an office facing endless paperwork, then no, thank you."
Professor Umbridge nodded and asked again, "Then, what's your opinion of Rubeus Hagrid? You know... your assistant."
"Hagrid is a really good person." Newt straightened up and said, "He is the best assistant I've ever worked with."
Professor Umbridge seemed a bit disappointed but still noted it down on her clipboard.
"Then," she asked once more, "what are your true thoughts about being appointed by Principal Dumbledore as a professor for the Magical Creatures Protection Class? Do you want to be this professor?"
"Since it's Dumbledore's request, I won't refuse," Newt thought for a moment and said.
After all, he couldn't mention the reason for his aunt, so he could only say this.
"Oh~" Professor Umbridge nodded meaningfully, "Then, as a professor who temporarily joined Hogwarts and hasn't taught for long, perhaps you can offer an outsider's perspective on how you view Hogwarts. Do you feel you've gotten enough support from the school's administration?"
"Oh, yes, Hogwarts is quite nice," Newt lowered his head, smiling somewhat bashfully, "I'm quite satisfied with the way the school operates, very satisfied indeed."
Seeing Newt's expression, Professor Umbridge revealed a meaningful expression.
"Alright, Professor Scamander— I hope you can show me your teaching methods. What do you plan to teach this year's students in this class?"
"Oh, I'll teach them the animals that frequently appear in the O.W.Ls exams," Newt said after a moment's thought, "There's not much left— they've already learned about unicorns and Sniffs, I think we still need to study Bowtruckles and Kneazles, ensure they can recognize Gaspers and Thornies, you know, since you've also taken the O.W.Ls, haven't you?"
"Well, it seems at least you know what you're doing." Professor Umbridge said, clearly checking something off on her clipboard, "Alright, I won't disturb you any longer, Professor Scamander. I've finished my questions and would like to see your teaching methods."
"Alright, then I'll start the class." Newt nodded, turned around, and announced the start of the class to the students.
Professor Umbridge adopted a different approach in this lesson, walking among the students and questioning them about magical creatures, and most could answer well.
She seemed very satisfied, though it was unclear whether it was with Newt or from the results she obtained from him.
After the class ended, she left the Magical Creatures Protection Class site contentedly.
"It seems she's gotten what she wanted." Hermione said worriedly.
"I think she probably caught a loophole in what Professor Scamander said." Ron frowned, with a clear 'the truth is only one' look, "Harry, Harry? What do you think? Eh? Where's Harry?"
