Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: The BOSS Who Appears for Less Than Two Hundred Characters

[Mission 'Hulk's Fury' settlement complete!]

[Rewards received: 3,000 EXP, 50 S.H.I.E.L.D. Reputation, Equipment 'Stim Pistol', Item 'Invincibility', Item 'Invisibility Potion']

[Equipment: Stim Pistol (Fires multiple homing healing darts, slowly healing the target while briefly suppressing various abnormal statuses)]

[Item: Invincibility (Grants invincibility against any single attack. Can be invincible to an invincibility, or even invincible to an invincibility that is invincible to an invincibility.)]

[Item: Invisibility Potion (Upon use, the entire body enters an invisible state, lasting for thirty minutes)]

The rewards this time were quite good!

Du Mu was very satisfied, especially with Invincibility, which could nullify any attack once—a veritable god-tier item.

He was going to give the game a five-star review when he got back!

"Um, would it be too much trouble for you to help me find some clothes and pants?" Bruce asked, slightly embarrassed.

Due to the Hulk transformation, Bruce's trousers had become an XXXXL size. He had to hold them up with his hand to keep them from slipping down when he walked.

"Ah, in that case, follow me," Du Mu nodded and turned toward a nearby alley.

Bruce was confused but followed him anyway.

Soon, they encountered a few rough-looking street thugs in the alley.

Seeing the two appear, the thugs seemed to activate a pre-set routine and immediately surrounded them.

"Hey, can we borrow some money... Big Brother, please don't shoot!"

Upon seeing the golden Desert Eagle in Du Mu's hand, the thugs immediately and expertly raised their hands.

Du Mu turned to the dumbfounded Bruce and said, "Come over and pick one out. Take whatever set you like. Oh, by the way, do you have any preference for the style of underwear?"

Bruce: "..."

Soon after, Bruce changed into a new set of clothes—a classic West Coast style.

Bruce then stated that he had to leave, as he had a very important matter that needed to be completed.

Seeing Bruce's resolute attitude, Du Mu called Nick Fury and relayed Bruce's words to him.

Nick Fury pondered for a moment: "Let him go. I will have people monitor all his subsequent actions."

"Understood, sir."

"And my car..."

Du Mu decisively hung up the phone.

Are you kidding? A car he drove off with had no business being returned! Not even the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.!

The next day.

Du Mu was reading a comic book at home, deeply engrossed.

He accidentally discovered that the DC Company actually existed in this game world.

DC and Marvel were notoriously fierce rivals, as both were superhero companies, and competition was inevitable.

Yet, a DC comic book appeared in a game with a Marvel background!

Was this an in-game Easter egg?

To be honest, Du Mu was quite knowledgeable about DC, especially their flagship hero, Superman.

In his time, DC had already rebooted its universe for the 28th time and was about to film a New New New New New New Superman: Prequel.

With a Superman movie coming out every year, it was hard for Du Mu not to know about it.

Out of curiosity, Du Mu opened the DC comic book and ended up reading it for half a day.

He found that DC's superheroes shared some similarities with the superheroes he encountered in this game world.

Especially Batman and Daredevil.

Both guarded a chaotic area, wore pointed-ear cowls, and preferred to appear at night.

And both had an unbreakable underlying code... oh no, a bottom line: the no-kill rule.

It was just that Lawyer Matt wasn't as rich as Bruce Wayne; after fighting crime at night, he had to go to work in the morning to earn money. It made Du Mu feel a pang of sadness.

Speaking of which, Batman's archenemy, the Joker, did have a bit of a "player" feel to him.

He was crazy enough!

Just as Du Mu was deeply engrossed, the system's voice suddenly rang out.

[Player, please note: The BOSS Event has officially begun!]

[Target: Defeat 'Whiplash' Ivan Vanko!]

[Reward: Determined by the amount of damage the player inflicts on the BOSS. The higher the damage, the richer the rewards!]

"Hmm?"

Du Mu raised an eyebrow.

Who had secretly started the BOSS fight?

New York, Stark Expo.

Tony, wearing his Iron Man suit, was flying rapidly through the air.

Behind him, over a dozen Iron Soldiers closely followed, continuously launching attacks.

The one leading them was his friend, Colonel Rhodey, now piloting the War Machine.

BOOM!!

Tony narrowly avoided a missile and yelled to Rhodey through the internal comms: "Rhodey, are you sure this isn't personal?"

Rhodey replied helplessly: "Ivan Vanko hacked into Hammer Industries' system and took control of this armor. What could I do?"

Hearing this, Tony's mouth twitched: "You shouldn't have let Hammer Industries touch your armor! Don't you know their system is like a public restroom—anyone can just walk in?"

Apart from Rhodey's War Machine, the rest of the Iron Soldiers were creations of Hammer Industries, built by that Russian man named Ivan Vanko.

This guy had previously attacked Tony on the Monaco F1 circuit, nearly electrocuting him into a charred corpse.

And now, he had seized control of War Machine and the other Iron Soldiers to collectively attack Tony, determined to kill him.

Fortunately, thanks to Du Mu's "life extension," Tony had enough time to develop a new energy source to replace Palladium, giving his armor a more adequate power supply, preventing him from being worn down to death by these Iron Soldiers.

Just then, Natasha's voice came through Tony's ear: "I've infiltrated Hammer Industries' system and am preparing to reboot Colonel Rhodey's armor."

Tony felt a surge of joy: "Nice work, Agent Romanoff."

He was right! Hammer Industries' system was a restroom!

To prevent Rhodey from crashing, Tony immediately controlled his armor to land in the simulated ecosystem below, and the Iron Soldiers behind him quickly followed suit.

The moment War Machine landed, Tony immediately shouted, "Now!"

The next moment, War Machine's system rebooted, finally breaking free from Ivan's control.

Tony and Rhodey exchanged a look. No words were needed; they immediately turned their weapons and fiercely opened fire on the other Iron Soldiers.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!!

Explosions erupted one after another!

Soon, under the combined attack of Tony and Rhodey, the Iron Soldiers were blasted into smoking piles of scrap metal.

However, their own armor was also severely damaged, charred black on the surface and riddled with bullet holes, looking extremely battered.

Before Tony could catch his breath, J.A.R.V.I.S.'s voice suddenly sounded: "Sir, high-energy fluctuations have appeared overhead. The reading far exceeds the Iron Soldiers' peak."

"Ivan Vanko!!"

Tony knew exactly who it was without having to think.

Sure enough, a few seconds later, a massive steel armor suit descended from the sky and crashed heavily in front of them.

The huge helmet slowly opened, revealing Ivan's unkempt face.

He looked down at Tony Stark and spoke in heavily Russian-accented, halting English: "It's good to be back."

With such a dramatic entrance, Ivan expected to see a look of shock on Tony's face.

However, he noticed Tony was looking at him with a strange expression.

Ivan frowned: "Stark, have I stunned you into silence?"

Tony suddenly noticed someone's figure in the distance, and his mouth twitched: "I wonder if you've ever heard a certain saying?"

"What saying?"

"Who pilots a mech without a helmet?"

"?"

Bang!

Before Ivan could figure out what Tony meant, he heard a gunshot!

And then.

There was nothing else.

Under Tony's look of helplessness and Rhodey's dumbfounded stare, Ivan's head was blown open, and he, along with his newly revealed Whiplash armor, crashed heavily to the ground.

A generation of supervillains.

Gone in less than ten seconds after making his entrance!
