Chapter 32 - Chapter 29

The rain had stopped, leaving the clearing slick and glistening under the dim VR light. Renata's chest still rose and fell rapidly, but her focus had sharpened. The boss-level simulation had been formidable, but it was nothing compared to what she had glimpsed in the system's deeper layers.

She wiped the rain from her face and scanned the clearing. The fog hung low, curling around broken branches and puddles, as if hesitant to let her leave. Her fingers brushed the hilt of her blade, a comforting weight grounding her. She wasn't alone.

A faint ripple in the VR environment caught her attention. Not the usual system glitch or reflection—it was deliberate, purposeful. Her instincts flared, and she crouched, moving silently through the wet underbrush.

Then she saw him.

A figure stood at the edge of the clearing, tall, cloaked in deep blue that seemed to drink in the faint light. A hood shadowed his face, but the aura around him was unmistakable. He was another player—a rare high-level entrant into this simulation.

"Renata Nasir," he said, his voice smooth but carrying a subtle weight, almost as if the words themselves could cut through the fog. "I've been… watching."

Renata's grip on her blade tightened, though she made no move to attack. "Who are you?"

The figure stepped closer, the soft squelch of rain-soaked earth beneath his boots the only sound. "Names are unnecessary," he said. "But if you continue in this world, our paths are destined to cross. I suggest you prepare."

Renata's brows knit. "Prepare for what?

The figure paused, tilting his head as though studying her. A shimmer of light from his cloak revealed a faint insignia she didn't recognize—yet it resonated somewhere deep in her memory. A pang of deja vu struck her.

"Your veins… they're different," he said suddenly, almost in passing. "You hide power that even most cannot perceive. Be careful—this world, this system… it notices those who stand apart."

Her pulse quickened. He was right. The system had been subtly guiding her, nudging her along paths no ordinary player would take. But how could he…? How could anyone notice?

"Why are you telling me this?" she demanded, her voice steadier than she felt.

"Consider it a courtesy," he replied, and then without another word, he vanished, swallowed by the mist like a ripple returning to the pond.

Renata blinked. For a moment, she felt exposed, vulnerable—but only for a heartbeat. Then determination flared. Whoever he was, he had confirmed what she already suspected. Her veins, her hidden power, were not ordinary. This world—no, this simulation—was testing her for something far larger than simple battles.

Her eyes shifted to the clearing, where the mist still lingered. Small ripples in the virtual environment hinted at anomalies left by the boss-level simulation. She knelt, pressing her palm to the slick ground. The energy she felt was faint but undeniable—residual chaos from her two hidden veins. The system had allowed it to linger intentionally.

A thought struck her: each test, each encounter, was a puzzle. The system wasn't just training her for combat. It was revealing pieces of a larger design.

She stood slowly, letting her senses expand outward. Her mind mapped the clearing, the mist, the broken branches—every small detail could be a clue. Every shadow, a potential threat. Her two hidden veins pulsed faintly, almost as if responding to her awareness. They were quiet now, subtle—but she knew their potential. Once awakened fully, they could shift the balance of power in ways the system hadn't yet revealed.

And then, another ripple in the fog. This time, it was different—smaller, quicker. A soft chime sounded, the type reserved for unexpected player activity. Renata froze. Whoever it was, they were approaching carefully, stealthily.

She crouched, drawing her blade, and waited. The figure emerged—a young woman, cloak dark green, eyes glinting with both caution and curiosity. She carried no visible weapon, yet the energy radiating from her suggested mastery far beyond a novice.

"Renata?" the newcomer whispered.

Renata's eyes narrowed. "Do I know you?"

The green-cloaked figure shook her head. "Not yet. But I've been sent… to guide you."

Renata's pulse quickened. "Sent? By who?"

The woman's gaze flickered to the clearing around them, then back at her. "You're awakening something here, something the system has… protected for centuries. You've survived trials no other player could endure. That alone marks you."

Renata's mind raced. Could it be connected to her hidden veins? The residual chaos, the strange adaptability she had demonstrated—it all aligned with the rumors she had only ever half-believed.

"What is it you're trying to say?" she pressed.

"You will see soon enough," the guide said, voice soft but urgent. "For now, trust this: the system is not just a game. It's a reflection—a crucible. And there are those who would do anything to control what you can wield. They are already watching."

Renata's fingers flexed around her blade, the weight suddenly heavier, more purposeful. "Then I won't wait for them to make the first move," she said. "I'll take it."

The green-cloaked woman nodded, eyes reflecting approval. "Good. Remember this: power alone does not protect you. Understanding, patience, and precision will. And one more thing—your veins, your hidden strength, will change how the world sees you. But be careful. Not everyone will welcome it."

Before Renata could respond, the guide vanished into the mist. A single message flickered in the corner of her vision—a system notification she hadn't expected:

New Quest Unlocked: Hidden Veins Awareness Module

Objective: Discover the potential of your hidden veins and unlock your first unique skill.

Reward: Unknown

Renata exhaled slowly, the weight of it pressing into her chest. The VR world had just escalated, and she knew that the trials ahead would be far more than simple battles.

Her pulse steadied. The boss-level simulation, the mysterious observer, the green-cloaked guide—they were all part of something bigger. The world, the system, even her own body—it was a web of tests, and she was now entangled in the center.

A spark of anticipation ignited in her chest. She had been reborn, yes—but rebirth meant nothing if she didn't rise. And for the first time, Renata Nasir understood what she needed to do.

She sheathed her blade, straightened her cloak, and walked toward the center of the clearing. The fog shifted around her, almost reverent, as if acknowledging her determination.

The system had opened a door, but it was her choice whether to step through.

And step through she would…
