Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Mission

"Chapter 4: Volkaris Vanguard: The Mission"

Act 1

[Scene: Flambrise: Woods - Night]

[The Demon stumbles through the dark, misty woods. Flambrise and Ventari warriors close in, their armor glinting in torchlight. The Demon is drained, struggling to defend itself.]

Victim Warrior(rage): "For years I hunted you. You razed my village... slaughtered everyone. And now... I finally face you, Demon!"

[The warriors surge forward, blades raised. Suddenly, a blur of violet flame tears through the group. One warrior falls, then another. The forest fills with the acrid scent of burning flesh. The killer steps forward- the Fire Necromancer. Corrupted violet flames dance around him. Every Elementor is dead except the Victim Warrior. With a swift strike, he stabs the Victim Warrior in the head, immolating him in cursed fire.]

[Necromancer turns slowly toward the Demon, eyes glinting in the violet fire.]

Necromancer(calm): "So... you're the demon. Join me, and you will feel the true power of necromancy. No one will stop you."

[Scene 2: Flambrise: Flameris - Day]

[Kael limps toward his ancestral home, his left arm broken and wrapped in crude bandages. The sun casts golden light over Flameris, glinting off cobblestone streets. Valtara rushes forward and pulls him into a tight embrace.]

Valtara(relieved, voice warm): "Kael... my brave son! I feared the worst when I heard you were in the Infirmary. And your arm... what dark force struck you? Come, let us go inside. I've prepared your favorite feast, just as you like it."

[Inside the House of Ignis, the scent of roasted herbs and spiced bread fills the room. Kael sits at the long oak table. Theron studies him carefully, his eyes sharp and measured.]

Theron(curious, voice calm but probing): "During your investigation at the cabin, you vanished... where did you go?"

Kael(grim, recalling battle): "I returned to Felithria. Zyra had been kidnapped. The foe... he was stronger than any elemental I've faced. He shattered my arm and left Lyrien in a coma."

Theron(concern etched on his face): "And Zyra? What became of her after the confrontation?"

Kael(steady, measured): "Zyra is unharmed. The opponent, however... he escaped into the shadows, untamed and unbroken."

Valtara(frowning, anxious): "And where does this shadow linger now?"

Kael(softly, voice low): "That... I do not know."

[Theron rises from the table, his movements deliberate, the weight of duty on his shoulders.]

Theron(irritated, muttering): "Your bones are mended, but your energy is depleted. Rest for the week before you push your limits again. The mantle of Flambrise chief is an endless fire to extinguish... I have obligations to attend to."

[Scene 3: Flambrise: Infirmary: Outside - Day]

[Lunya steps out of the Infirmary, her fur bristling in the wind. Zyra rushes after her, tail flicking, ears forward, calling out.]

Zyra(calling, urgent): "Lunya!"

[Lunya halts and turns. Zyra pads quickly toward her, claws lightly tapping on the ground, eyes bright with relief.]

Zyra(grateful, earnest): "I thought we were enemies... Thank you for saving us! Why are you leaving? Where are you going? We're free from Draeven's tyranny... you could join us!"

[Lunya remains silent, her ears twitching. Without a word, she pads away.]

Zyra(pleading): "Wait, Lunya!"

[Lunya disappears into the streets of Flambrise, tail flicking, leaving Zyra standing alone, fur ruffling in the breeze.]

[Scene 4: Flambrise: Infirmary - Noon]

[Master Faelan Emberhand, Kaelen, and Seraphina stand beside Lyrien's bed, where he lies still in the coma.]

Seraphina (worried): "What happened to him?"

Master Faelan (calm, grave): "The healers managed to stabilize his physical wounds, but his spirit remains locked away. He is in a deep coma."

Kaelen (concerned): "What... what dark force made him fall into it?"

Master Faelan (shaking his head): "The medics found no lingering curses or dark magic. Until he wakes, the true cause remains a mystery to us."

[Zyra pads into the room, ears alert, tail flicking.]

Seraphina (alarmed): "Who are you?!"

Zyra (firm, graceful): "I'm his friend. I heard you wanted to know what happened..."

Kaelen(nods): "Yes, we want to know."

Zyra(explaining): "I was kidnapped. He and Kael fought my former coach... his name is Draeven. Kael's arm was broken, and..."

Master Faelan(shocked): "Kael... the son of the Grandmaster?!"

Zyra(nods): "Yes. During the fight, Kael's arm was broken, and Lyrien was struck by Draeven... he fell into a coma."

Seraphina(softly): "So... that's what happened."

Kaelen(amazed, concerned): "The Kitnas are that powerful?!"

Zyra(thoughtful): "Some say yes. Kitnas and Elementors are nearly equal. Lyrien and Kael fought Draeven... but he is the strongest Kitna in all of Felithria."

Master Faelan(grave): "And Draeven? What became of him?"

Zyra(calm, grim): "He escaped. Never caught."

Master Faelan(ominous): "Then two fates await him... he will rise again... or embrace necromancy."

[Zyra lowers her gaze, ears flattening slightly. She swishes her tail nervously, worry etched in every movement.]

Zyra(worried, whispering): "Neither... is good news."

Act 2

[Scene 1: Flambrise Infirmary: Seven Days Later - sunset]

[The morning sun filters through tall, stained-glass windows, casting colorful patterns across the stone floor. Lyrien Flynn stirs on the infirmary cot, his eyes fluttering open. Around him, Master Faelan Emberhand, Seraphina, and Kaelen lie in peaceful slumber.]

Lyrien (groggy, whispering to himself): "Where... am I? And... they are asleep?"

[He notices the calendar hanging crooked on the wall. His eyes widen in disbelief.]

Lyrien (shocked, muttering): "Seven days... Seven whole days..."

[He turns his gaze to the bedside table and spies a single, glistening berry. A mischievous grin spreads across his face.]

Lyrien (mischievous whisper): "Heh... just like the old times..."

[He plucks the berry, crushes it between his fingers, and begins his "Sleeper's Brand," painting comical faces upon the slumbering Kaelen and Seraphina. Just as he reaches for Master Faelan Emberhand, the old Elementor stirs.]

Lyrien (grinning): "Ah, and you... you brought this upon yourself for dozing off!"

[Master Faelan's eyes snap open. Lyrien freezes mid-motion, caught in the act.]

Master Faelan (startled, booming voice): "He's awake! HE'S AWAKE! Everyone, Lyrien is awake!"

Kaelen (staggering back, astonished): "I thought... I thought you were lost to us!"

Seraphina (rushing forward, joyful): "Lyrien!"

[They embrace him tightly. Lyrien struggles to suppress his laughter, but it bursts forth uncontrollably.]

Lyrien (laughing, tears at his eyes): "Hahaha! I... I cannot stop! Look at your faces! Hahaha...!"

[Seraphina and Kaelen exchange puzzled glances. Then realization dawns.]

Seraphina (pointing at Kaelen, giggling): "Pff... look at you! A beard? And... your eyebrows... they've touched hahaha!"

Kaelen (examining Seraphina, incredulous): "What? And you... you look... older!"

[Seraphina glances into the polished metal mirror, horror dawning. She slumps into a corner, crestfallen, while Lyrien continues laughing heartily.]

[Suddenly, the infirmary doors burst open. Zyra storms in, eyes blazing with frustration at the ruckus. Then she notices Lyrien, alive.]

Zyra (rushing forward, embracing him): "What madness is this! Thank the heavens... you live!"

Lyrien (modestly): "'Twas nothing."

Zyra (beaming, stepping back): "I must fetch Kael! He will want word of this at once!"

Lyrien (grinning): "Then away with you."

[Zyra dashes from the infirmary, leaving a trail of hurried footsteps. Master Faelan glares at Lyrien knowingly.]

Master Faelan (sighing, amused): "I knew... I knew you would try it on me as well."

Lyrien (sheepish, apologetic): "Forgive me, old man..."

[Scene 2: Flambrise: AshWard district: Cemetery - Sunset]

[Kael walks through the cemetery gates, the air quiet and heavy. He stops at his sister Ayla's grave, kneels, and gently places his blades on the soil.]

Kael (soft, tired): "Ayla… remember when I said I'd become a great archaeologist?"

[He lets out a faint, bittersweet smile.]

Kael (quiet): "Yeah… that didn't happen. I became a warrior instead… using your blades."

[Kael takes out a pair of earrings, holding them carefully before placing them on the grave.]

Kael (nostalgic): "I found these yesterday. You spent the whole day looking for them… didn't even sleep."

[He looks toward the horizon as the sun sets, its light reflecting on his face.]

Kael (gentle): "I still remember… when we used to sit on the roof together… watching sunsets like this."

[The light lingers on him, reminding him of the Radiant.]

Kael (thoughtful): "You told me about Kaelios… the hero of Volkaris. You said his story ended in mystery… that something out there was a threat."

[Kael glances down at his blades, his expression slowly hardening.]

Kael (determined): "I'm going to find that truth."

[He places his hand on his chest.]

Kael (firm): "I built the Vanguards… just like you wanted."

[His grip tightens.]

Kael (angry, restrained): "And the one who killed you… I'll find them. I'll end them."

[Footsteps approach quickly from behind.]

Zyra (urgent, shouting): "Kael! Lyrien is awake!"

[Kael's eyes widen. He immediately grabs his blades and rushes off with Zyra toward the infirmary.]

[Scene 3: Flambrise: AshWard District: Infirmary - Sunset]

[The infirmary door swings open as Kael rushes in. Inside, Lyrien is laughing loudly, clearly amused at the people he fooled. Kael stops, seeing him alive and well, relief washing over his face.]

Kael (smiles, relieved): "So… you're not dead."

Lyrien (grinning): "Who the hell said I was dead? I'm fully alive!"

[Kael exhales slowly, his gaze steady. He steps forward and raises his forearm. Lyrien meets it without hesitation. Their arms collide with a heavy thud, their grips tightening—like a silent vow between warriors.]

Act 3

[Scene 1: Flambrise: AshWard District: House of Ignis: Training Ground - Noon]

[A week has passed. Kael's arm has healed. He trains intensely with his father, Theron Ignis, trying to master the Ember technique. Flames swirl around him, embers drifting like restless sparks, licking at the edges of the training ground.]

Theron (focused, instructive): "Son, Ember absorbs the fire around you—or the flames you create. Let your body steam, become a swift Fire Elementor… but push too far, and it will burn you."

[Kael focuses too hard, drawing in the fire. The heat twists unnaturally around him, searing and bright. His vision blurs. He collapses, smoke rising from the ground where he fell.]

Theron (concerned, kneeling beside him): "Don't overdo it, Kael. You need rest."

[Master Faelan Emberhand appears in the hallway, his cloak shadowed and solemn. He signals Theron with a subtle gesture, there is something urgent to discuss.]

[Scene 2: Flambrise: AshWard District: House of Ignis: Meeting Room - Noon]

[Master Faelan paces the room, furious. His eyes burn with worry and anger over the students who have not returned from their mission.]

Master Faelan (mad, voice sharp): "Theron! Grandmaster Theron! The students—my students! You sent them to face this threat in Rinsato District, Eldros Kingdom! Where are they now?!"

Theron (calm, measured): "I'll send a raven to find them."

Master Faelan (frustrated, voice rising): "I already sent a raven! Even the raven hasn't returned with a message! I raised them!"

[Kael stands hidden behind the door, listening silently.]

Master Faelan (desperate, fists clenched): "Let me go there! They are my children, my students, my pupils!"

Theron (resolute): "Alright. You can go… but come back alive."

Master Faelan (angry, turning on Theron): "And you? Why won't you go?"

Theron (calm, firm): "I have other matters to attend."

[A knock echoes on the door.]

Theron (sharp, alert): "Who is that?!"

[The door opens. Kael steps in, determination on his face.]

Kael (pleading, determined): "It's me. I heard everything. Let me go!"

Theron (alarmed): "No! You can't! You haven't mastered Ember!"

Kael (defiant, resolute): "If Faelan's students are missing in Rinsato, I'll go. They are brothers to my friends. We will go—the Vanguards. Like you said, 'No Elementor left behind.'"

Theron (sighs deeply, heavy-hearted): "Argh Your choice… but this time, I am responsible for whatever happens to you, my son. You better get back here saf—"

Kael (interrupting, confident): "We will get back here safely. See you soon, Father."
