Chapter 13-The Silent Night
The night felt heavier than usual.
New York didn't look like itself that day… it looked like a worse version of Gotham. The building lights didn't shine, the alleys seemed alive, and the wind carried a strange smell of smoke and ozone.
In that dark setting, Luka and Gwen, already in their hero suits, walked through a completely silent block.
Silent in a way that wasn't normal.
Gwen looked around.
"Seriously… this is way too weird, even for New York."
Luka nodded.
"Stay alert. Something's off."
And he was right.
A sharp thud echoed, like something massive had crashed onto a car. Gwen snapped her head toward the sound, but before she could react, three figures leaped out of the shadows.
Mutants.
And strong ones.
The first was huge, with skin like living stone, cracked and pulsing.
The second had four long arms, fast and sharp like blades.
The third… the most dangerous one, had blue flames rising along his hands and neck. Flames that didn't illuminate anything, only burned.
"Oh no… blue fire?" Gwen muttered. "Yeah, that one's trouble."
Luka was already activating Ryu Hayabusa 80 percent, his senses expanding across the entire area.
"Gwen, take the four–armed one. I'll handle the rest."
She grinned behind her mask.
"Got it."
The stone mutant charged with a punch strong enough to collapse a wall. Luka dodged using the Storm Step, appearing behind him and landing a spinning kick that cracked the guy's ribs. The creature roared, but before Luka could strike again, the blue–fire mutant unleashed a violent blast.
The air exploded in silent heat.
This time Luka didn't block with his hand. He inhaled, raised his palm, and the water in the environment reacted instantly. Puddles rose, pipes burst, and the humidity condensed around him.
A translucent water blade formed.
"You wanna play with blue fire? Then catch this," Luka said.
The blast hit the blade. The impact created a heavy cloud of steam that swallowed the whole street.
Inside the fog, Luka spun the water into a spiral, shaping it into a liquid shield. The mutant attacked again, his hands turned into living flames.
The blow hit the shield and part of the fire died instantly.
"Your flames are weird… but they're still fire," Luka said, charging forward.
The water around him strengthened, forming currents that whipped the mutant's body. He tried countering with a blazing strike, but Luka focused the water into a pressurized jet that slammed straight into his chest, snuffing out the blue flames completely and launching the guy five meters back.
The mutant dropped to his knees.
Luka finished him with a punch boosted by a swirling torrent of water, knocking him out on impact.
The drops fell to the ground like heavy rain.
"Okay… that was awesome," Gwen said, still fighting the four–armed mutant.
The stone one got back up to attack Luka again, but Gwen spun through the air and kicked his head with enough force to shatter concrete.
"Two to zero for us," she said, panting.
Luka pulled the water back with a smooth gesture.
"And the night isn't even over."
They kept fighting crime until three in the morning, when they finally went to Luka's place to rest a bit. With nothing else to do, Luka opened his status.

Luka looked at it and thought: Not bad… solid progress.
Gwen called him so they could shower and rest.
The next day, Luka and Gwen woke up and got ready for school. Luka went full all–black, and Gwen wore her new look: black leggings that highlighted her curves, a fitted white shirt, the bracelet Luka had given her, white Converse, and a black earring.
They got into Luka's Ferrari and drove to school.
On the courtyard, Luka and Gwen were talking with Peter when Jean suddenly appeared.
"Luka, we need to talk."
