"What the hell??!! Watch where you're going gosh!"
The girl shouted that it echoed throught the halls. I can already feel all the eyes on me. I slowly stood up and picked up the container of the now spilled coffee. As a waved of embarrassment washed over me, I finally turned to her and grabbed my handkerchief from my pocket in an attempt to get the stain in her dress which only seem to make it worse.
"I'm really sorry, nagmamadali kasi ako-"
Before I could finished she cut me off
"I don't care, do you know how expensive this dress is? It's ruined now!"
I can feel her anger as she glared daggers at me. Finally the girl beside her grabbed the handkerchief from me.
"Don't worry Kiara, I have an extra in my bag. As for you,"
she said turning her sharp gaze on me.
" Watch where you're going next time or you'll regret it."
Her friend shot a final glare at me before finally walking away to the bathroom.
"But...can I at least have my hand-"
My voice trailed of as they didn't seem to hear me before they finally disappeared to the hallway. I sighed, still feeling embarrassed. Well, way to make enemies at your first day Xienna, I thought to myself. I can still see the eyes of students who witnessed the scene staring and whispering among themselves as I made my way to the classroom.
Students were all in their own little world as I entered. I quietly walked scanning any empty seats before finally settling on an empty seat second to the last row. I placed my things down and pulled out my pair of headset. Connecting my headset to my phone, I turned on my music hoping to just get this class and day over with. Just as I was lost in the rhythm I felt someone tapped on my shoulders. I turned around to see a girl with a genuine smile, brunette hair and hazel eyes.
" Hello, bago ka lang ba dito? Leah nga pala."
She said as she offers her hand. I shook her hand and smiled as I introduced my self.
" Oo bago ako dito, I'm Xienna."
Leah nodded and fixed her chair to scoot a bit closer.
"Nice to meet you beh, sabay ka na Sakin mag lunch mamaya?"
Leah's offer was sweet and I felt relieved that she was kind enough to want to eat with me at lunch.
"Sige, sabay na tayo mamaya"
I replied with a genuine smile. Maybe not everyone here is so bad afterall.
A few minutes later, a woman with a neat ponytail and glasses entered the classroom with books and she sets it on the teacher's table and everyone went silent. This must be the teacher. Everyone stood up and greeted the teacher a good morning before sitting back down, finally she speaks.
" Good morning everyone, I'll be your adviser and teacher for grade 12 Stem. I'm Ms Kaila Alvarez and I expect everyone to do their best at their last year of highschool"
after introductions she then began her lesson but then two girls who I assumed was late just entered the classroom. Ms Alvarez turned to them and I couldn't tell if she was disappointed or angry, maybe both.
"Nice of you to join us Ms. Monroe and Ms. Balaguer."
My heart dropped as I recognized the two girls earlier. The girl I spilled coffee on looked back at Ms Alvarez.
"Sorry Ma'am... Just had a little emergency"
Explained the girl, I felt really guilty as I knew it was my fault the girl had to change because I stained her dress. Ms. Alvarez placed the book on her hands back down and turned to her again with a sharp gaze.
"You know very well how I value punctuality, this better not happen again or that's a detention. Am I clear?"
The girls nodded and quickly made their way to their seats. Leah then whispered to me after they sat down.
"Yan sina Kiara at Giselle, yung sumagot kay ma'am si Kiara tapos yung kasama niya si Giselle na best friend niya."
I just nodded as I felt stressed knowing that I pissed Kiara off and now we're at the same class.
Ms. Alvarez resumed the lesson after Kiara and Giselle took their seats. I put aside my feeling of stress and took out my notebook to take notes of the lesson. The time flew by so fast like a blurr, class was dismissed. Students were already gathering with their usual friend circle chatting excitedly about their lunch plans. Leah was getting her things before turning to me
"Tara na Xienna, baka maubusan pa tayo ng upuan."
I didn't say anything and just grabbed my own things and followed her to the canteen of the school.
The canteen was bigger than I thought, somehow that made sense as this was considered one of the prestigious school around our area. The place was air conditioned and I can see the food that they were serving. Leah and I got in line as we decided which side dish would we get along side with rice. Slowly the line moves until we were at the front.
"Anong sayo?"
The lunch lady asks as she prepares the tray, utensils, and the plate to be used by the students. "Ahh, isa nga pong adobo ate at isang rice". She nods and placed the food on my plate and told me to go to the cashier to pay for my meal. After we paid for our meals we found an empty table and sat their with our meals.
"Okay ka lang ba? Parang kanina ka pa kasi tahimik."
Leah stared at me with curiosity in her eyes mixed with worry. I lowered my voice to tell her what happened earlier.
"I think I messed up, kanina kasi may natapunan ako ng kape at si Kiara yun..."
Leah's eyes widened with shock and she lowered her voice too.
"Kaya ba na late sila ni Giselle?"
I nodded feeling stressed again. Leah looked at me with serious eyes.
"Kiara Monroe is not someone to mess with, pagiinitan ka niyan pag ginalit mo."
I felt as if my stomach dropped confirming my fear that I pissed off the wrong person.
