A heavy silence settled. I tried to control the upward curl of my lips and simply stare quietly at Ashley.
Before she had been tense, now something within her shook and she was even more nervous. Clenching and unclenching her fist.
"As expected, you've been spying on me." If she were as bothered by that, she didn't show it. "You should know, I wouldn't spend my time pouring money into something that sounds like an obvious scam. Ogygia has real magic. When this world is destroyed, they'll be our only hope..."
It was at this point that I decided to stand up. She was just rambling, almost as if to herself. "So you pull me aside and tell me some ludicrous stories about how you were reborn? And that we're all novel characters?"
This time, I was sure I sounded completely unbelieving because I was slightly bewildered by the other parts of what Ashley was revealing.
