Chapter 21 - The Hidden Door

The academy halls were unusually quiet as Ira and Elara left the headmaster's office. Flickering lights cast shaky shadows on the cracked tiles beneath their feet. Ira's mind raced with the weight of the warning they had just heard.

They moved deeper into the old wing, where the silence felt heavier and the air colder. Ira stopped suddenly on the staircase, gripping the railing tightly. Elara watched him closely, sensing the storm brewing beneath his calm.

"There's something I didn't tell the headmaster," Ira said quietly. "When the rift opened, the Shade didn't just attack me. It spoke to me."

Elara's eyes widened. "What did it say?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Ira swallowed hard and looked away. "It promised to come back… and next time, it wants more than just my power."

A cold breeze drifted through the corridor as they continued. Ira's gaze landed on a dusty wall covered in vines and cracks. He felt an odd pull, as if the wall was calling to him.

He reached out and touched the rough surface. Suddenly, a faint symbol glowed beneath his fingertips. Elara gasped softly. "That wasn't there before."

The wall trembled, stones shifting aside to reveal a hidden door carved from dark stone. A rush of cold air spilled out, carrying whispers that sent chills down their spines. Elara stepped back, uneasy.

Ira stared into the darkness beyond the door. Inside his mind, a voice whispered again—soft but clear. Come closer.

He clenched his jaw. "This door is tied to the Shade. I can feel it." Elara grabbed his arm. "We should tell someone first."

Before they could decide, the door opened wider on its own, glowing with a soft purple light. The chill in the air deepened. Ira looked at Elara, who nodded despite her fear.

Together, they stepped into the passage. The stone beneath their feet was cold and hard. Behind them, the door slammed shut, sealing them inside.

Elara let out a breath. "No turning back now." Ira's voice was steady. "Then we move forward—whatever waits for us."
