The blinding light gradually faded away.
Countless Ancient Dragons stared tensely into the dissipating radiance, fury blazing in their hearts as they waited to see the outcome. Qing Lin and Xiao Yixian were no exceptions—both women clenched their fists tightly, their lips pressed together, eyes filled with hatred—hatred toward their own powerlessness.
Huang Tian was the first to reappear. His feet stepped back across the void, each step echoing with a thunderous boom. His phoenix robes were in tatters, and a streak of bright red blood slid slowly down from the corner of his mouth.
Glaring viciously ahead, Huang Tian forced the blood down his throat and gave a twisted smile. "As expected of the Dragon Phoenix Physique. Born to rule over the Ancient Void Dragon Tribe and the Heavenly Phoenix Tribe. But now that you can't wield that power, let this Saint make use of it instead!"
Opposite him, Zi Yan's figure was even more tragic. Her delicate body drifted powerlessly through the air like a kite whose string had snapped, like a fallen leaf swaying in the wind, completely without control.
Liu Xi rushed forward, catching her midair. Zi Yan's small face was pale as paper, her chest barely rising and falling, eyes half-closed.
"Big Brother… I'm so sleepy…" she whispered weakly.
Holding her tightly, Liu Xi felt a heart-piercing dread. He had never seen Zi Yan so fragile—her breath faint, her body nearly weightless. Who could imagine that the proud Ancient Void Dragon would ever appear so feeble?
"Zi Yan… Zi Yan…"
He called her name over and over. His throat grew hoarse, voice cracking from strain. It felt as though a raging fire burned within his chest, scorching his throat and consuming his reason. Slowly, Liu Xi raised his head. His eyes burned with killing intent so dense it seemed to solidify the air.
"Don't fall asleep yet. You have to watch… watch how I avenge you."
"A 5-Star Dou Saint… I've never killed one before."
Brilliant light erupted from Liu Xi's body. Another Liu Xi stepped out from within him—it was his soul, his Divine Spirit—manifesting clearly before all, hovering behind his true body.
Huang Tian's expression changed, uncertain. This second Liu Xi looked too real—unlike an illusion or mere clone. "A soul? Such solid form… unbelievable. But so what? You dare release your soul before me? Then this Saint will simply destroy it! It's been ages since anyone dared challenge me—you'll be the last!"
The Divine Spirit ignored him. Forming hand seals, the lotus mark between his brows flared brilliantly. In the next instant, the soul began to burn—azure flames engulfed it, and a wave of annihilation spread outward.
Liu Xi gently wiped the blood from Zi Yan's lips, then fed her a pill, every motion tender and precise. At the same time, the azure fire flowed and fused with his body.
Man and Heavenly Flame as one—the power could be driven to its utmost limit. But the human body was fragile. Beyond a certain threshold, flesh and bone would disintegrate, unlike the Heavenly Flame itself—a pure spiritual entity that could vent its might without restraint.
When man and flame merged completely, the power seemed limitless. Yet a single misstep would see the flame consuming its host, leaving nothing but ash.
Liu Xi went even further—his soul essence had already fused with the Heavenly Flame's core. Now his Divine Spirit merged with his physical form, achieving true unity of body and soul.
If perfected, such fusion might grant immortality, rebirth from a single drop of blood. But Liu Xi cared nothing for that now. He only wanted one thing—enough strength to kill Huang Tian.
All this happened in a blink. Liu Xi's body began to glow. Azure flames seeped from his skin; bones, flesh, and veins turned crystalline, his form becoming a humanoid flame.
In the Dou Qi Continent, everything had its limits—only the Heavenly Flames were eternal.
Liu Xi lifted his hand before his eyes. His translucent palm shimmered like glass—no flesh, no veins, no mortal restraint. He could unleash his power freely.
"This terrifying power… I can only maintain it for ten seconds. But ten seconds is enough to kill Huang Tian."
Far away, Huang Tian's figure vanished, replaced by a colossal Saint Statue of a Phoenix thousands of meters tall. The phoenix opened its beak, gathering an unimaginably destructive energy that could tear the heavens apart.
In an instant, a beam of devastation burst from its mouth—hundreds of meters thick, radiating pure annihilation. Even a 5-Star Dou Saint would be erased by such power.
Liu Xi raised his hand high. A black war spear condensed within it. The power sealed within his body, soul, and flame—once uncontrollable—now surged forth like a broken dam.
The power soared past the limits of a 4-Star Dou Saint, reaching 5-Star, then continued to climb. The pressure grew more dreadful, surpassing the peak of 5-Star Dou Saint and approaching that of a 6-Star Dou Saint at his late stage—only a step from the realm of high-tier Dou Saints.
The energy beam struck. Liu Xi hurled the spear. It released no aura, no light—like a fragment of a black hole that could devour and crush everything in its path.
When it collided with the energy wave, it tore through effortlessly. Everything it touched disintegrated into nothingness.
The spear's tip was not sharp; rather, it carried a unique field of annihilation, reducing all matter to its most basic particles.
In an instant, the spear shredded the energy beam, pierced through the Phoenix Saint Statue, and finally impaled Huang Tian through the neck.
Huang Tian's eyes widened in disbelief. How could a mere 4-Star Dou Saint erupt with such force—one that even surpassed him?
But the searing pain at his throat, the tearing of his soul, told him the truth—his life was slipping away.
"Pfft—!"
Blood sprayed from his lips. His mind spun; clutching the spear with both hands, he tried to pull it free—but it wouldn't budge.
His vitality drained, his soul shredded, his strength fading away. All his grand ambitions crumbled into a final, unwilling whimper.
"Impossible… this Saint… how could I… fall…"
Huang Tian was dead.
Liu Xi swiftly separated from the Heavenly Flame, returning it to its Divine Spirit state before it could cause irreversible harm to his body.
Once he regained his human form, exhaustion and emptiness struck him like a tide. The weariness from his very soul made his eyelids heavy as mountains—he could barely stay conscious. His body convulsed weakly, every muscle spent; that last strike had drained him completely.
Cradling Zi Yan in his arms, Liu Xi caught a glimpse—before darkness took him—of several elders rushing toward him, followed by Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin's anxious faces. He only had time to issue one command:
"Take the North Dragon King's and Huang Tian's corpses… I'll need them."
Then, at last, Liu Xi succumbed to the overwhelming fatigue. His eyes closed, and he fell into unconsciousness.
