This chapter includes general information about the awakened, everything here is something like general knowledge in the novel. It will include no spoilers, so read this couple of sentences to your hearts content.
The Awakened:
People that randomly get power with strength that regular people can't hope to achieve. They have stronger bodies than normal people, but they are not invincible.
The powers that the Awakened unlock after some time makes them much stronger: an Awakened with special power is almost always stronger than a 'regular awakened.
Awakened are there to fight off monsters that coming out of spatial cracks or the awakened enter into rifts.
Awakened primarily earn their money by being employed by the government or specific organisations, the small part of awakened that are not employed earn their money by fending off monsters, and selling their remains if they rarely dropped something behind.
Chaos:
Every supernatural phenomena is connected with chaos the appearance of rifts, spatial cracks and the existence of monsters.
-Rift:
Portals connecting earth with another place, these places are filled with monster and only awakened can enter them. Staying too long inside a portal can be fatal to the awakened both in mind and body.
-Spatial cracks:
Cracks for short are a space distortion where monsters can come out; They are called cracks because the space looks similar to shattered glass, like a crack appearing in space.
If awakened don't enter and clear a rift for a specific set of time, the rift will turn into a crack and will give the monsters a chance to enter earth, but very rarely cracks appear without it being a rift beforehand.
-Chaos Creature:
Monster which is more commonly used by the public are creatures waiting inside a rift, they want to kill and destroy everything that comes in their way and are only interested in havoc.
Only awakened are able to kill monsters. When the monsters are killed they disappear and turn into dust, sometimes dropping chaos crystals.
-Chaos Crystal:
Chaos Crystal that sometimes drop from some monsters, containing chaos energy used for various things.
