Chapter 144 - Chapter 144

The X-Men arrived at the Aurawood Preserve, a world away from the familiar hum of the X-Mansion. Towering, ancient trees reached for the sky, their leaves a hundred shades of green. Sparkling streams chuckled over smooth stones.

Kitty Pryde, with Espurr perched on her shoulder, practically vibrated. The air smelled of damp earth and something sweet, like wildflowers. She imagined all the tiny, hidden Pokémon that must be watching them.

Espurr's pale violet eyes scanned the canopy, its ears twitching at the rustle of leaves. The world was full of new energies, new presences. Kitty knew Espurr would be good at finding things.

Bobby Drake zipped ahead, a trail of icy mist trailing behind him like a cape. He carved a path through the tall grass, his laughter echoing playfully.

"Alright, who's gonna find the legendary Berry tree first?" Bobby called out. "I bet I can freeze a whole orchard before you guys even spot a Pidgey!"

He glanced back, a grin spreading across his face. He loved showing off a little. It was just a fun trip, after all.

Jubilee, ever the enthusiast, pulled out her Rotom Phone. Its screen glowed, scanning the foliage for any colorful movement. Her phone could identify new Pokémon and show their data.

"I'm looking for something sparkly," Jubilee announced to no one in particular. "Something that explodes with good vibes. Or maybe just actual explosions, that works too."

Her eyes darted everywhere, taking in the vibrant colors of the flowers and the movement in the trees. This place felt alive, like a giant theme park of nature.

Piotr Rasputin walked with a measured stride, his imposing stature a stark contrast to the delicate ecosystem around him. He observed the preserve with a quiet reverence, his gaze soft as he took in the intricate patterns of bark on the trees.

He saw beauty in the strength of the forest, the way everything worked together. It reminded him of his farm back home, but on a grander, more powerful scale. He felt a deep respect for this place.

Rogue remained slightly apart, her usual cautious demeanor evident in her posture. Her gloved hands were clasped loosely in front of her. She absorbed the environment through her own unique filter, sensing the subtle energies, the hidden dangers, and the quiet life around her.

She kept her distance from the others, a habit born of necessity. She could feel the pulse of the preserve, a raw, untamed power that was beautiful but also held a quiet warning.

Kurt Wagner felt the subtle hum of life and natural energy emanating from the ancient woods. It was a comforting, almost spiritual sensation that resonated with his own gentle soul. He felt a deep connection to the living world around him.

The sounds of rustling leaves, chirping birds, and distant animal calls created a symphony for him. Jean Grey's earlier words about the importance of understanding and coexistence echoed in their collective minds, setting the tone for their mission.

At the main entrance, Kamala held up a bright blue wrapper. It was a Berry-flavored protein bar, a new kind. Her Eevee sniffed at it, tail wagging, wanting a bite.

Doreen gestured wildly with her hands, talking about her squirrel army. Tippy-Toe sat on her shoulder, chittering in agreement. Nearby, a group of Rattata squeaked and chattered back.

"They're totally integrated," Doreen explained. "Tippy-Toe taught them all the best nut-gathering spots."

Her Emolga zipped around her head, a happy yellow blur. It landed on her shoulder, nuzzling her cheek.

Kitty Pryde, with Espurr perched quietly on her shoulder, walked up to Kamala and Doreen. Her eyes sparkled with interest.

"Hey, Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl," Kitty said. "That tournament was something else. Espurr and I were glued to the screen."

Kamala's smile widened.

"Oh my gosh, you're Kitty Pryde! And Espurr is even cuter in person," Kamala said. "It's awesome to meet you! Your phasing ability is so cool."

Doreen nodded, her tail giving a happy twitch. Tippy-Toe, ever the diplomat, gave a quick chitter from her spot on Doreen's head.

"Totally!" Doreen added. "I mean, phasing through walls? That's next-level stealth for acorn missions. You could totally be my tactical infiltration expert."

Kitty giggled.

"Glad to know I have a niche," Kitty said. "Espurr and I are here to explore Aurawood. Professor X thought it would be a great learning experience."

Officer Jenny approached the group, her Growlithe trotting faithfully beside her. The Pokémon let out a soft "woof" as it observed the gathering heroes.

"Good morning, everyone," Officer Jenny said. "Welcome to Aurawood Preserve. I just want to remind you all about the regulations here. Please stay on the marked paths to avoid disturbing the wildlife. Also, remember to keep your interactions with the Pokémon respectful. We want to ensure minimal ecological impact."

She gave a reassuring smile.

"Thank you for your cooperation," Officer Jenny said.

Kamala looked at the X-Men, then back at Doreen. A new idea sparked in her mind.

"Hey, since we're all here to check out Aurawood, maybe we should explore together?" Kamala suggested. "A bigger group means we can cover more ground and see all sorts of Pokémon. Plus, we can compare notes on their behaviors."

Doreen's eyes lit up at the thought.

"That's a brilliant idea, Kamala!" Doreen exclaimed. "My squirrel scouts can spread out and give us all the intel. It's like a super-team Pokémon safari, but with more teamwork and fewer evil schemes."

Kitty nodded enthusiastically, her earlier excitement growing. Exploring with more people sounded like a lot more fun, and definitely more educational.

"I'm in!" Kitty said. "This is going to be amazing. Espurr can probably sense things we can't even see, right, little buddy?"

Espurr gave a quiet purr, its large eyes fixed on a spot deep within the preserve. A faint, almost imperceptible ripple emanated from its small body, a subtle shift in the air around its head. It nudged Kitty's hand with its nose.

Kitty felt the slight pressure on her hand. Her gaze followed Espurr's silent stare toward the dense trees. Something was out there, something new.

"Did you sense something, Espurr?" Kitty whispered. The little Pokémon gave another soft purr, looking at Kitty.

The combined group of X-Men and champions prepared to enter the preserve, a sense of unity settling over them. They knew this adventure would be more than just observation. It would be a journey of shared discovery, friendship, and understanding.
