Chapter 9 - A Matter of Mutual Consent

"To be honest, I had no idea stun guns were so expensive."

On their way out of the shopping mall, Hiyori Shiina felt the stun gun in her pocket and said gently in her mind, "80,000 is a bargain, if it helps Mr. Ghost feel a little more at ease."

Symon complained out loud, "No way, being broke feels terrible too. I need to find another sucker like Ryūen."

"If Ryūen-kun knew you labeled him like that, he would definitely cry."

Chatting about trivial things, Hiyori Shiina returned to her dorm. Using the excuse of needing to prepare for school tomorrow, she carefully organized her desk and school bag.

A moment later, in the very back of her desk, Hiyori Shiina found what she was looking for: a Switch, forgotten in a corner, its screen covered with a bit of dust.

After taking out the charger and plugging in the game console, Hiyori Shiina stood up, opened the refrigerator, and asked, seemingly casually, "Mr. Ghost, is there anything you'd like to eat tonight?"

"I'm surprised you remembered me at a time like this."

"I feel like I've heard that line before."

"Have you? Speaking of which, that pan-fried mackerel you made the day before yesterday was quite good."

"Hai, hai. I really don't know what to do with you."

Saying this, Hiyori Shiina smiled and took the mackerel fillets out of the refrigerator.

Elsewhere, at a small round table outside Pallet Café, a l0l! with shoulder-length, silver-white hair held her coffee and spoke in a playful tone, "Have you found out everything, about that Dragon Boy?"

Masumi Kamuro impatiently brushed her hair back. "According to the Class C students—on the first day of school, Ryūen gave 100,000 points to a girl named Hiyori Shiina and got a lot of information. After that, he…"

"Wait," Arisu Sakayanagi raised a hand to interrupt, looking somewhat surprised. "What's the story with this Hiyori Shiina?"

"I was eavesdropping, okay? You're asking me, but who am I supposed to ask?"

Masumi Kamuro stomped her foot and complained with a pout, "I only heard those two girls badmouthing her: something about her being a 'library's resident NPC,' and 'who is she putting on that gentle act for'."

"Is that so," Arisu Sakayanagi's lips curled into a faint smile. "Then I'll leave you to continue the investigation, Kamuro-san."

"So... are you still going to listen to the stuff about Ryūen?"

"No need. I'm more interested in Shiina-san now."

"That's horrible! I spent two whole days investigating, I even gave up my vacation!"

"Be a good girl now~"

"Tch!"

We'll set aside Sakayanagi and Kamuro's daily routine of master and trained dog for now.

In any case, due to Symon's slick move, the storm set off by a single butterfly began to gradually sweep through the school.

Time passed, and it was now Tuesday lunchtime—

After the morning classes ended, the Class C students left the classroom in twos and threes. Mio Ibuki, who sat at the desk in front, turned around and looked at Hiyori as she took out her bento box, inviting her, "Shiina, want to go to the student cafeteria together?"

"I appreciate the invitation, Ibuki-san, but I'm not very comfortable in noisy environments, so I always prepare a bento," Hiyori replied gently.

"Tch!"

Ibuki tched, then said a bit unnaturally, "I wonder what lucky guy will get to marry you someday."

Hiyori Shiina recognized the compliment in her words, clasped her hands together, and said with a smile, "Thank you, but something like that will never happen."

"Right. It's only natural that the boys in our class would make you disillusioned with the opposite sex."

Ibuki said this through gritted teeth.

"That's not true. Everyone is actually very nice."

Hiyori Shiina said gently, "Ryūen-kun helped stop some bad people from Class D for me, Albert-kun is surprisingly gentle, Ishizaki-kun has never bullied anyone, Manabe-san might be a gyaru, but she's always looking out for Morofuji-san, and Ibuki-san, you're not good at socializing, but you're trying your best to look after me now. I know all of this."

Ibuki's pupils dilated. "Hiyori... are you an angel...?"

The girl was instantly sunk by Hiyori's direct hit, unable to recover!

"Ara, Ibuki-san, you're the second person to say that. The first was a friend of mine," Hiyori Shiina said with a smile.

"Damn it! Where is that person now?"

Mio Ibuki's face flushed slightly as she clenched her fists, wishing she could find that person for a one-on-one fight right now.

Hiyori Shiina chuckled silently, watching Ibuki until the latter, unable to bear her own shy, flushed face, hastily fled. Only then did she open her bento box, close her eyes, and press her hands together. "Itadakimasu."

Picking up a piece of mackerel and putting it in her mouth, Hiyori Shiina chewed the tender fish meat and wondered to herself, "Speaking of which, with our senses shared, if we exclude subjective will, what does it feel like for you, Mr. Ghost, when I eat?"

Symon asked, amused, "Are you sure you want to know?"

"Yes... Is there a problem?" Hiyori was a bit confused.

Symon chose his words carefully and said with a laugh, "Perhaps because it's not my subjective will, the sensations from my sense of taste and touch are quite unusual when you eat."

Hiyori Shiina tilted her head. "How unusual?"

Symon snickered. "Let's switch. You'll know once you try."

With a bit of confusion, Hiyori Shiina transferred control of her body, watching from a strange first-person perspective as Symon picked up a piece of tempura and brought it to her own mouth.

At the same time, a strange sensation filled her mouth. Hiyori commented out loud, "The fried batter is a little rough, but it's very fragrant and crispy..."

"After chewing for a while, it becomes sweet and soft in my mouth."

"The feeling of licking my lips is... sensual... ..."

Realizing what kind of "unusual experience" Symon was talking about, the girl's commentary stopped dead. Bashfully, she tried to negotiate, "Mr. Ghost, can we please switch back...?"

Symon said cheerfully, "Do you get it now?"

"Mhm."

Seeing that she was embarrassed, Symon chose not to press her further.

Control of the body transferred once more. Hiyori Shiina slowly let out a sigh of relief, patted her slightly flushed cheeks, and began to seriously enjoy her lunch for the day.

In that moment, it seemed neither the girl nor the ghost realized—this was the first time Symon had intervened in the girl's daily life.

Or perhaps:

They were both aware of it, but tacitly chose not to mention it.
