Ruby's POV
The closer he moved through the crowd, the more intense the murmurs around me became.
When he was only steps away, one of the girls next to me let out a breathless gasp. "Alpha Elias, what an incredible honor to see you here tonight—"
But his attention never wavered from the other girls surrounding us.
His dark eyes found mine immediately and held them captive. "What exactly are you doing here?"
Every head in our vicinity turned toward me with expressions of pure shock, as if they couldn't fathom why the Alpha would single me out for conversation.
"I had some business to attend to here," I managed to get out, my voice barely steady.
"Did you follow me here?" The temperature in his voice dropped several degrees as his eyes became slits of suspicion.
"Absolutely not! I had no idea you would be attending this event!"
He remained silent for what felt like an eternity, studying my face as though he could detect lies written across my features.
