Chapter 8 - In The Headlines... Again!

"Ughhh..."

A pained groan slipped out of the woman's mouth whose brow scrunched up as she lay in bed.

The bright light entering her room through the window fell on her face, making her turn away to avoid it.

However, the moment she turned on her side, she felt her stomach churn uncomfortably.

'I should really stop drinking... on an empty stomach!' She regretted her actions from yesterday.

A wave of nausea hit her in the next second, making her sit up straight in bed as she knew what came next.

Wasting no time, she rushed into the bathroom and let out the liquid that had risen to the back of her throat.

After emptying the contents of her stomach into the toilet, she decided that it would be best to shower since she was already here.

Groaning again in pain and disgust, she flushed the toilet and undressed to wash away the heavy scent of liquor and vomit that now clung to her skin.

Half an hour later, she stepped out of the bathroom dressed in a robe and headed straight to her walk-in closet to pick something she could lounge in for the entire day.

She had no prior appointments and no plans for the day and hence decided that she could laze around at home, doing absolutely nothing all day.

Therefore, she chose a pair of pajamas with a sweatshirt before stepping back into her bedroom to change into her outfit of the day.

Just as she was pulling up her pajamas, the door to her room swung wide open.

Though startled initially, Demi knew that there was only one person in the whole wide world who would act this way and enter her room without knocking first.

She only had to glance over her shoulder and after taking a look at the person standing at the door, she knew she had guessed right.

"Mind knocking next time?" She scoffed at the man who stood frozen at the door.

Her question snapped the man back to his senses as he rolled his eyes first before shutting the door behind him and walking in as though he owned the place.

Earlier, Jamie had rushed to Demi's room the moment he woke up as he had something important to discuss with her.

Hence he pushed her door open and strode in as he always did, without bothering to knock.

However, upon entering the room, he stopped in his tracks when he found Demi, bending over in just her underwear with her back facing in his direction.

She paused for only a second before she shot a glance at him and continued to casually get dressed in his presence.

Noting his silence, she tossed him that question, which brought him back to his senses, and he remembered that the door behind him was still open.

So he rushed to shut it and walked in when he recalled why he had come here in the first place.

"It's not something I haven't seen already." He muttered under his breath before making himself comfortable on her bed.

His words made Demi roll her eyes as she took a seat on the couch facing him.

"Still, no harm in learning how to be a gentleman." She mocked him while using a towel to wipe her dripping wet hair.

"We need to talk about yesterday..." Jamie ignored her taunt and chose to explain why he had appeared her right after he had woken up on this bright and sunny morning.

Nodding in response, Demi waited in silence as she gave him a chance to speak what was on his mind.

She had half-expected that she would very soon be having this conversation with him after everything that had taken place last night at the club.

Therefore, she wasn't surprised and instead was willing to have this conversation with him.

However, before they could begin, the loud ringtone coming from Demi's phone distracted them.

Picking up the phone on the bed, Jamie took a look at the name flashing on the screen before tossing it over to his friend who caught it with ease.

*PEONY ELUME*

Demi raised her brow when she saw who was calling her.

This person did not contact her often, instead it was Demi who reached out to her for assistance.

Reading her name on the screen, Demi knew that it must be something important which made the person contact her so early in the morning.

Hence she did not hesitate to answer right away and even placed the phone on speaker mode so that Jamie could also hear their conversation.

"Hope I am not disturbing your sleep?" A sweet and bubbly voice echoed in the room, making them smile.

"Not at all! I was just talking to Jamie when you called." Demi replied truthfully, revealing that her best friend was also present in the room with her.

"Perfect! Just the person I wanted to talk to!" Peony, the woman on the other end of the call exclaimed.

Jamie now had a confused look on his face upon hearing this statement.

'Doesn't she have my number?' He wondered why she had to call Demi if she wished to speak to him instead.

Before he could voice out his thoughts, Peony, having realized what she had said, was quick to explain herself.

"I actually wanted to speak to the two of you together." She revealed her intentions as her tone changed mid-sentence.

'She is here on official business...' Both Demi and Jamie knew what this sudden change in her tone meant and did not interrupt her.

"Do you two not like me?"

"You think I look good with dark circles??"

"You just returned to the country yet could not wait to cause scandals???"

"But why did you have to do it in the middle of the night????"

With each question, her exasperation with her pitiful situation rose and so did her volume.

By the end of her little rant, she was out of breath and the two best friends could hear her huffing over the call.

"What did we do?"

"What scandals?"

Jamie and Demi each shot off a question of their own in that particular order once they recovered from the intense monologue they had just witnessed.

The two looked at each other and felt that both questions were valid and waited to hear what the woman on the call had to say.

"You don't even know?" Peony gasped at their confused voices but soon regained her composure.

"You were in the headlines... Again!" She let out a scoff at the very end at the couple who had once again attracted the netizens' eye yet had no clue about it.
