Chapter 3 - Death

"This is not working at all. This bastard is way tougher that we expected. If only we could bring in the bigger guns. Damn it!" Barn said furiously to the shooting squad. The squad ignored him and continued firing, they were enjoying shooting this bastard a lot. Barn looked around and saw Tarin kneel down and looking at something on the surface with other scientist. Barn quickly asked "Hey! Verne brat! What are you doing? We brought you here to find this robots weakness not stare at snow!"

"I already found it, and what I am staring at is not snow." Tarin said confidently without a hint of anger for being disrespected. Barn was pleasantly suprised and rushed over. What he saw preplexed him. Under a thick layer of Ice was a metal door with blue shade almost blending it with the ice. One scientist had used metal detector to find it. The content behind the door was obvious to everyone. Even Barn could tell that this was the most vulnerable part. It was the source of energy fueling the Unbounded AI during its hybernation.

The scientist immediately brought in some drills and started to go for the door. Although the door was made from the same alloy, it was much smaller and thinner. After a few hours the metal door finally tore apart. "BAM!" a loud sound of impact could be heard. It really gave a sense of how heavy the alloy was, for such a small piece to have such momentum. The inside was a bright red space. Almost like it was welcoming and warning them at the same time. The scientists along with Tarin studied the place meticulously. They didnt want to make any mistakes. Turns out, the source of energy was a plutonium reactor. It was within expectation as nuclear energy was the most versatile and could be generated anywhere-even in the himalayas.

Just as Tarin pulled the lever to slow down the reaction, a loud alarm was heard. Almost immediately the skyscraper tall robot laid on ground and opened its mouth. From the mouth, bloodthirsty cries could be heard. It wasnt a single sound but a army of sound reinforcing each other. Seeing this, branch 7 shat their pants, all the bullets they had were wasted in their useless fury. Now they had nothing. It was a massacre. Barn and Tarin were underground with other scientists. upon arriving on the surface and seeing the bloody sight, it was easy to guess who these men were-the members of Unbound AI's private army. Although most citizens of the country surrendered to the WOAI army and sided with humanity, some people still supported the AI and were recruited into the army by Unbound AI's top officials who also did'nt want to lose power.

Tarin hid in the bunker along with the scientists, sweat running down his tanned face. Besides him was Barn who looked paler than usual. Barn was a tough military guy. He could make hard decision. And at this moment he precisely did so. He told everyone his plans. Most people although troubled, were in agreement. One guy had another plan, "I -I am gonna die anyway, ha I-I---I will at least try to live. I am a very talented scientist, I am sure I will be recruited, follow me if you want to live as well." saying this he left the bunker with hands above his head. After some time, he came back in, "HAHAHA, I will live after all. The AI is generous, it had left a message before hybernation to allow scientist to be recruited. Follow me if you want to live." Barn heart sank after hearing this, he was no scientist, "It seems like even overdriving the nuclear reactor is going to be imposible, there are no volunteers to die. What a smart robot, it thought this far. Truely fitting to be compared to god." As he was pondering this he saw that Tarin was still besides him.

"Why wont you go?" He asked. "Because I am not retarted" Tarin replyed. People lose their sense of resoning in the face of danger. However Tarin did not. Robots could not be trusted and he knew that. Furthermore, even if he lived he would have to live as a slave to the robot and assist it to destroy humanity. He would rather go with the plan and increase the rate of fusion to cause make a nuclear catastrophy than be a traitor and a slave. At least the robot would die. Barn needed Tarin to go with the plan cause he didnt know how to do physics, so he was relieved to know that. The robot plans was truely marvellous, to create something like this in such short period of time, while running low on energy. But it all went to waste, because human sprit is unconquored, even by god.

Tarin quicky activated the collision increment protocol while thinking about his life. He was never fond of living but he was also afraid of dying. He recognized it as part of being human.

He seldom did something because of need. Most of his actions were driven by curiosity and a desire to know the truth. And most importantly because he wanted to do them. But Meh now it was all over and he did'nt feel any regrets. He was ready to die. Besides him Barn was having his own similar moment while closing his eyes. "Just pull the lever god damn it!" he screamed. It was his last scream. "BAM!!!" everyone and everything vaporized within a few km radius, including the scientists, terrorists, robot, barn and Tarin.
