Chapter 14 - The Broken Sea

Coco, Fenrir, Alex, and Zena were brought into the water section of Greed's realm and landed on Captain Treon's ship.

Looking out all they saw was the wood of the ship they were on, an ocean expanding as far as the eye can see, and a storm in the far distance inching ever closer.

There is also a fourth item in the water, a fast moving enemy ship, Captain Karrin's ship, headed straight towards Captain Treon's vessel. However, there is still some distance between them.

Captain Treon turned his wheel so the ship will be moving diagonally to Karrin's.

After a few more adjustments and a narrow miss from the spear looking bow, the two ships were horizontal to one another.

Alex spoke the elven tongue in a calm voice with her eyes closed with full focus, "sal foqal takal lor nae salen." (I summon thy Milo and Fredrick).

A small two headed ghostly blue and green dragon was summoned from nothing. It was small enough that it couldn't carry anyone, but large enough that it would hurt if it something.

"Milo and Fredrick launch a fire breath attack at the other boat!" Alex yelled more so as asking a favor to a friend than a command from a master to a servant.

After a moment, Milo and Fredrick did not attack…

Despite Alex's desperate attempt at an attack, the two headed dragon was happy to be out of the spirit realm and began to fly and move freely around the sky. Making happy noises while zipping around.

Squee Sqoo

They had been in the spirit realm for nearly a full month, so the dragon really just wanted some love from its favorite person, Alexandra Benika.

After they calmed down, they went to Alex for pets.

Milo and Fredrick made cute noises as though to get attention from their master.

"Guys! I have missed you too, but I really need–"

Alex was pushed down to the ground by their body and their heads were rubbing against her neck and face.

The other three looked down at this situation and all agreed that Alex would be useless in this fight.

We really are in a tough spot… Coco thought.

As this was going on the enemy team dropped a wooden bridge connecting to the other side.

The bigger guy launched the pink haired girl over to Captain Treon's ship.

The girl was flung with so much force that she was sent over Team Earth's head landing on the other side of the ship.

Despite it being a four versus two scenario, since the pink haired lassy was on the far side of her enemies ship, Team Earth was forced to split their attention.

Alex, being on the ground, this situation also meant that it would turn into a one versus one match and a two versus one match.

These odds still tipped in Team Earth's favor, but it was now more even than what it looked like at first glance.

Since Team Earth was distracted by the bigger guy launching his partner over, they didn't realize that the browley man sprinted over the bridge sword in hand ready to take someones head.

Fenrir, hearing the sound of heavy footsteps dashing towards the group, looked up, pulled his blade out, and barely connected his sword to his opponents.

CHHINK

Metal hit metal and Fenrir was forced back a little.

Catching his feet, Fenrir adjusted his footwork and swung with both hands on his weapon towards the enemy.

Another loud cracking of metal was formed.

"Not bad"

"Same to you"

The eye-patched little girl who landed behind Team Earth drew her weapons then went in for an attack, but she was met by a slightly faster Zena whose dagger was inches away from her other eye.

The girl blocked the dagger just in time, but Zena kicked the inside of the pink haired girl's leg. She dropped to a knee.

"Gal-force wind!"

Before Zena could deliver the killing blow she was blown back by wind magic, but caught herself so she wasn't laying flat on the ground.

We are pincered on both sides. Zena seems to have the pink haired girl under control and Fenrir is holding his own. Who should I help first? No, despite my bad positioning as a mage being in the middle center, I can help out both parties.

Coco, with both arms free, spoke some words under her breath and flicked two droplets of black from her finger tips onto both Zena and Fenrir's backs. Since Coco was placed in between the two, the enemy did not see this.

Coco then pulled out her wand and ran to the side of Zena launching a water ball attack.

"Wind slash!" the girl said with a wave of her sword splitting the droplet in two, missing her body as they went past her.

Fenrir, still locked in a stalemate against his bigger opponent, decided to dash backwards giving some distance.

Fenrir did this to get closer to Alex. With his free hand he reached down to touch Milo and Frederick's body.

"Absorption!"

Alex looked shocked, then was angry. The group over the course of the last month has gotten to know one another well, but they haven't seen one another's true magic.

Fenrir, openly using his magic on someone that Alex loves more than anyone else in the world, and her not fully understanding what is happening, made Alex think that Fenrir was hurting her closest friend.

Milo and Fredrick, who had been in the spirit realm this last month, had more than enough energy to spare, and they weren't in any pain at all.

Fenrir's body was covered in a small outline of teal, once he was covered in this color, he took his hand off of Milo and Fredrick and tilted his sword in front of him.

Then, Fenrir pushed the blade away from his body, the tip of the sword being aimed directly at the bigger man.

"Poison breath attack" A teal breath attack, with the poison attribute, was launched from the tip of the blade.

"Magic break!" The man yelled, taking his free hand and hitting the breath attack head on.

Since Fenrir only absorbed a portion of a baby dragon's power, it was a much weaker dragon breath than one might expect.

The magic attack dissipated, but the man's knuckles were bleeding. Without missing a beat, and as if there was no pain in his hand at all, the man lunched forth again.

"Hehe, not bad kid!" the man said before beginning to cast a spell.

"Alex, please help me!" Fenrir said, trying to hold his own against such a tough swordsman.

Milo and Fredrick moved from Fenrir's due to the yelling, allowing Alex to reach into the back of her waist pouch and throw a knife at the man's head.

The man's momentum paused for a second as he tilted his head back to dodge the knife attack. From this, Fenrir was able to step back from being hit, and the man's spell fizzled out.

"I promise I did not hurt your dragon, we are in a fight, this isn't a game. Well, it is … whatever, just take this seriously."

Alex, although mad that she didn't know what Fenrir did to her friend, got up and aimed this anger towards the man before them.

"Zena, I can promise your safety. I don't know what you are fully capable of, but you don't need to hold back, I will match your pace."

Zena gave an evil grin. One full of confidence as if to say "yeah right."

Zena started to jump up on one foot landing on the opposite, switching feet each time. She purposely made the landing of each foot as loud as she could to cast a small spell unheard.

"Boost."

She dashed towards her opponent who also casted a spell during this time.

"Windwall"

Targeting herself.

Despite Zena's speed, her blade couldn't make it through the pink haired girl's defensive spell.

"Tch" Zena let out an annoyed sound before stepping back.

The girl then grasped the blade with both hands and sliced horizontally. "Windslash!"

Coco and Zena made a run for it, because they knew how destructive an area of effect spell could be. As they turned to run away, they felt a strong wind hit their backs.

A strong, overpowering, cutting wind went across a third of the ship. The attack that would hit everyone but her ally, who was behind Fenrir suddenly failed to cast.

Fenrir noticed a lot of air being sucked up behind him. Getting a feeling that if the person behind him finishes the spell, it wouldn't end well so he broke off from his fight with the brawley swordsman.

Fenrir, with his instincts kicking in, lunged at his opponent with his sword. It was easily blocked by his opponent. However, with his other hand, Fenrir made contact. "Absorb!"

Feeling like he was being drained of energy and becoming exhausted very quickly, the man took his sword and slashed downwards on the open Fenrir.

Coco, who was looking over after hearing the word 'absorb' she activates her spell.

The moment the giant swashbuckler was going to cut Fenrir down, instead, made contact with a black slimy substance.

Sploop

The blade slid downwards before hitting the floorboard of the ship.

"Wind-slash!"

Fenrir realizing he was ok, pushed his foot backwards, jumping off of one foot, and fell. His fingers barely touched the girl, his other opponent, before it could reach Coco and Zena.

"Break!"

The wind-slash spell broke, only causing a mild wind to be dispersed around the ship.

The girl was clearly exhausted after unleashing two large scaled spells back-to-back, wind-wall and wind-slash.

Her partner was not looking much better either after having a portion of his mana being drained out of him.

Despite his exhaustion, the man prepped his blade, but Zena was already behind him, and slit his neck open.

His head hit the floor.

Alex drew her bow and shot it at the girl. It hit her shoulder, and she stumbled back, hitting the edge of the ship.

"No, no, no!"

Fenrir walked over and pushed her into the water.

The two bodies quickly disappeared from Greed's realm.

The two captains just watched in wonder. As though this was a test for their new crew.

"Karrin, your guys didn't even take one of mine!"

"I hate people who fight head on anyway. You win again Treon."

With that, Captain Karrin took the connecting bridge off, and went away. It took a few minutes, but soon enough he was no longer in earshot.

"Ight, any of you lot take damage?" The captain said in a somewhat carrying voice.

Each person looked around to see that everyone was ok.

"Great, because those dark clouds, Aziel, is gettin closer." Captain Treon, who was still at the wheel, began to maneuver the ship to buy some more time before facing off against Aziel.

"Fenrir! What did you do to my Milo and Fredrick?" Alex yelled very upset by his unauthorized actions.

"My magic is absorption. I can take a percentage of another being's power as long as I can touch them, then I can manipulate it as my own. There is a physical repercussion to this, but it is nothing more than minor fatigue. I didn't even take a whole lot!"

Alex looked over at Milo and Fredrick who were now rubbing against Coco and Zena.

"Well, they seem to have plenty of energy. I will forgive you."

"Thank you!"

"Only if you promise to not do that again unless I grant permission."

"Deal." Fenrir agreed to Alex's terms before turning his attention to Coco. "What magic did you cast to save my life back there?"

"I can't tell you until we are in a secured place." Coco said petting Milo and Fredrick.

"Hmm, fine then."

Coco, while being introduced to the dragon pet of the group, began to get lost in thought.

Summoning magic, absorption, and some kind of physical increase in power, combine that with my abilities and … we still come up short under a lot of circumstances. Next time in combat I need to make sure I am not in the center of it.

Alex de-summoned Milo and Fredrick after a few minutes of them playing.
