I looked at Kael. He looked back at me. In his eyes I saw the same conflict I felt. The same uncertainty and fear.
"We tell her the truth," I said finally. "We tell her we need more time. More information. We can't make this decision with what we currently know."
"She might not accept that. Might resume the attack."
"Then we fight. But I won't condemn King Aldric without proof, and I won't ally with the Architect on blind faith that they're telling truth."
"That's the least satisfying decision possible."
"I know. But it's the only one I can live with."
We walked out to meet Lady Morgana as dawn broke fully. She stood in the same spot as yesterday, looking fresh and rested despite the battle. Behind her, her forces waited for orders.
"Well?" she called. "Have you decided?"
"We need more time," I said. "We need to verify your claims before committing to alliance."
