Alliser Thorne looked at the bizarre scene in the room, his mind momentarily unable to process it.
Lord Commander Mormont leaned against the wall, disheveled, with clear finger marks on his neck, evidently having been through a struggle.
Jon Snow, that bastard, stood there dazed, holding a piece of burning rag, as if his soul had left him.
And Lynn, the deserter he disliked the most, held a strangely shaped dagger in his hand, his foot on Othor's corpse.
The most unsettling thing was that Othor's eyes were not a normal color, but a deathly gray-white, and there was a large hole in his neck.
"Lynn! You traitor!"
In Thorne's mind, a grand drama of "traitor assassinates Lord Commander" instantly played out.
He almost reflexively drew his longsword, its tip pointing directly at Lynn.
"How dare you! You actually dared to conspire against the Lord Commander!"
His roar caused the Night's Watch behind him, who were still confused about the situation, to also draw their weapons.
In an instant, over a dozen longswords were all aimed at Lynn.
The atmosphere in the room immediately became extremely tense.
"Stop!"
A majestic roar made everyone halt their movements.
It was Jeor Mormont.
He leaned against the wall, struggling to stand upright.
"Put your swords away!"
The Old Bear's eyes burned with fury.
The Lord Commander's imposing presence made Ser Thorne and the others dare not make any further moves.
"Lord Commander, but he..."
Thorne still wanted to argue.
"I told you to put your sword away! Are you deaf, Ser Thorne?"
Mormont's voice carried an undeniable command.
Thorne's face turned a purplish-red.
He glared fiercely at Lynn, but ultimately, reluctantly sheathed his longsword.
The other Night's Watch also put away their weapons.
"Just now... Othor, he came back to life."
Mormont's voice was heavy, every word seemingly squeezed out from between his teeth.
"He tried to kill me."
"It was Lynn and Jon who saved me."
These words were like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, stirring up monstrous waves in the hearts of all the Night's Watch.
Came back to life?
Othor's corpse, truly came back to life?
Everyone's gaze subconsciously turned to the corpse on the ground.
The expressions on their faces went from surprise, to horror, and finally to undisguised fear.
"This... how is this possible?"
A young Night's Watch's voice trembled.
"How can a dead man..."
"I saw it with my own eyes!"
Mormont interrupted him, his voice trembling with lingering fear.
"He was impervious to blades and spears, incredibly strong, not human at all! He was a monster!"
Thorne's face alternated between green and white.
He looked at the corpse on the ground, then at Lynn.
He still didn't believe it.
This was too absurd!
It must be some kind of sorcery he didn't know about!
"Lord Commander, this must be this deserter's trick!"
Thorne pointed at Lynn, his voice sharp.
"He used southern sorcery!"
"He manipulated Othor's corpse and staged this act, all to gain your trust!"
Lynn heard this and, far from panicking, was secretly delighted.
This Thorne, what a character.
At a time like this, instead of thinking about how to deal with the crisis, he was still trying to pin blame on him.
He was simply a pig-headed fool.
"Sorcery?"
Lynn sneered, finally speaking.
His gaze pierced Thorne.
"Ser Thorne, what kind of sorcery do you think could deceive the Lord Commander's eyes?"
"What kind of sorcery could make a Direwolf treat it as a mortal enemy?"
Lynn pointed to Ghost, who was still protecting Jon, growling softly.
"Or rather, do you think I, a so-called deserter, have such great ability to pull off such a deception in front of the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch?"
Every word of Lynn's was like a resounding slap, fiercely striking Thorne's face.
Thorne was left speechless.
He truly couldn't come up with a reasonable explanation.
But he just didn't believe it!
He just felt that there was something wrong with Lynn!
The Old Bear also angrily slammed the table.
"Ser Thorne, I know you've always disliked Lynn, and I've seen all your behavior, but this time you've gone too far."
"Is this the time for infighting and mudslinging?"
"If I hear such remarks again, Thorne, you'll have to deal with the consequences yourself!"
The Old Bear also made a secret decision.
With such a major incident, someone would definitely have to be sent to King's Landing.
He would have Thorne take the corpse to King's Landing.
To keep him from constantly hovering around him.
Annoying!
Just then.
"Ah—!"
A piercing scream echoed from the other end of the castle.
The sound was filled with extreme terror.
Everyone's heart lurched.
"It's Maester Aemon!"
A Night's Watch cried out in alarm.
"Quick! Go see!"
Mormont was the first to react, rushing out immediately.
The other Night's Watch also stopped confronting Lynn and quickly followed.
As Thorne left, he glared fiercely at Lynn, then snorted coldly, drew his weapon, and followed along.
In the courtyard, chaos had already erupted.
Countless torches lit up, and Night's Watch poured out of their barracks, their faces filled with panic.
"What's going on?"
"Over there! Something happened at Maester Aemon's!"
When Mormont and his men rushed to the outside of Maester Aemon's room, they were stunned by the sight before them.
Toren and his thirty Northern soldiers, holding torches and longswords, had surrounded the entire room, making it impenetrable.
And inside the room, a corpse, also clad in black, was being consumed by raging flames.
That corpse was Jaremy Rykker.
It twisted and struggled frantically in the flames, making sizzling sounds.
Its ice-blue eyes, exceptionally eerie in the firelight, stared fixedly at the crowd outside.
Maester Aemon was protected behind Toren and several soldiers.
The elderly Maester, though still shaken, was surprisingly calm.
"It came to life."
Maester Aemon's voice was old and hoarse.
"Just now."
"It tried to attack me."
"It was Toren and his men who stopped it with fire."
Everyone was stunned.
They watched the monster struggling in the flames, smelled the stench of burning flesh in the air, and a chill from the depths of their souls spread through their limbs.
If everything that happened in the Lord Commander's room earlier could still be explained by sorcery or illusion.
Then what now?
Two corpses, in two different places, had simultaneously reanimated.
This was no longer a coincidence!
Everyone's gaze involuntarily converged on the figure slowly walking from the back of the crowd.
Lynn.
He still had that calm expression, as if this terrifying scene before him had long been within his expectations.
"Now," Lynn slowly began, seeing everyone looking at him.
"Does anyone still think this is sorcery?"
"Does anyone still think I'm telling a story?"
No one answered.
Alliser Thorne's face had completely lost its color.
He knew Lynn's words were meant for him.
But... looking at the wight twisting in the flames, and then at the calm and collected Lynn, his body trembled uncontrollably.
Fear.
Damn it.
What Lynn said was actually true.
Beyond the Wall, those monsters that only existed in legends... they had truly returned!
