Chapter 120 - Chapter 120: Arguable

Hey, Ai, you ever realize what a perfect word 'boobs' is?

Wait, hear me out. Think about it, specifically when it's capitalized...the first letter, a capital B, represents a top-down view of the jugs.

Next, the double Os represent the view from in front. And finally, the lowercase b is the side-view. I think that's pretty cool.

Heh, I'll take it. I wonder if there are any words like that?

Huh? Uh, I don't see it.

Ohh, I get it. The e is just the middle, and the d is the, uh...wait, what do you call that part? Footrest?

Huh, so that's what it's called.

Yeah, I see it now...but it's not as perfect as Boobs. While I don't think I've seen many beds without a headrest, I've definitely seen plenty without footboards, especially with single beds.

But even with bigger beds, not all of them have footboards.

And what's wrong with that? Doesn't that apply to most trivia facts?

Especially ones that are super obscure, it doesn't really make much of a difference if you know them or not, but it's still pretty cool.

Well, yeah, we are kinda arguing about it.

Today's the 2nd of May, 2169, and I was currently chilling at home. I'd gone on another raid a couple of days ago, which I got through with relative ease.

No doubt about it, there's not much point to me going on Mid Level raids anymore, the Monsters are less and less of a challenge with each subsequent raid, and with the rather minimal gains I've been netting lately, they're not worth the effort anymore.

I do still plan to tackle at least two more raids before the tournament is set to take place, but I'm not really feeling all that motivated.

I then glanced at my I-Watch as it began ringing, my eyes widening slightly. Oh, it's Ariella, haven't heard from her in a while.

I texted her a few days ago about the tournament, but she hadn't replied, which is a bit unusual, she typically texts back pretty quickly.

"Hey, been a while, how've you b-...?" I began as I answered the call.

"I-I'm so sorry! I was in the middle of a raid the last time you texted me and I totally forgot to reply! Actually, I thought I replied, but then I just noticed now that I never did and-...I'm really sorry!"

"H-Hey, uh, relax. It's cool, I get it, you don't need to apologize," I responded in bemusement.

"Yeah, but..."

"It's fine, really. I figured you must have been busy since you usually respond pretty quickly, so it's all good," I assured her with a wry smile.

"I-...okay. Thanks for understanding, I appreciate it, and I really am sorry. And about your text...are you really going through with it? Finally revealing your true power, I mean?" She asked me.

"Mhm, sure am. At this point, it isn't worth the effort to keep sticking with Mid Level raids, it's time to stop hiding my power. And I'll be taking that step into the spotlight during the upcoming Hunters Championship Clash in a few weeks," I replied, as I stretched out across my bed lazily.

"That should cause quite a stir. If I'm being honest, I kinda have mixed feelings...I really liked it when I was the only one who knew. But now, a bunch of other people know too, and in a few weeks, everyone will know," She sighed wistfully.

She sure is straightforward, I find it so endearing. It's basically the opposite of me, someone who has no trouble lying as easily as he breathes.

"I mean, the fact remains that you're the first person I trusted in revealing my powers to," I pointed out.

"Yeah, I guess that's true. But, to be fair, if I hadn't figured some of it out and pushed you, you probably wouldn't have told me, right?"

"Well, uh...yeah, my original plan was to tell no one. But, if nothing else, I have no regrets about telling you," I smiled in response.

"Really?"

"Really."

"Cool, that's, um...that's nice to hear. Oh, and I'll be participating in the Hunters Championship too. My Guildmaster approached me yesterday and suggested it, and I agreed. Which means, we'll finally get to see each other again!" She remarked cheerfully.

"Yeah, that's something to look forward to. I know it's only been a little over four months since graduation, but it's felt like ages," I smiled and nodded.

Noted, but that's kinda unnecessary info, dude.

"Mhm, it definitely hasn't felt like just four months."

"Although, while I haven't seen you since graduation, I've seen a lot of you. You're in a bunch of ads and a few billboards too," I replied with a laugh.

"Yeah, I'm not really a fan of that. Filming ads and posing for billboards and stuff is a real drag, I only accepted those offers because the Guild basically insisted.

I mean, I get it, the Guilds are businesses, so a Hunter representing them getting promoted also promotes the Guild. It's just such a hassle though," She sighed in exasperation.

"Huh, guess I might have to put up with that before much longer too."

"Oh, almost definitely. On another note, I'm really excited for this tournament...not only will I get to see you again, but there's also a chance that we'll get to fight each other! It's been ages since we last sparred, I'm eager to see how much stronger you've gotten!"

"Likewise. What's your current Power Lev-...actually, on second thought, never mind. Let's keep any further progress we each make to ourselves until the tournament," I suggested with a grin.

"Oh, sounds good, we'll find out how much stronger we've each gotten at the tournament, I like that idea!" She exclaimed excitedly.

"If we do end up facing off against each other at the tournament, I won't lose. I never beat you once when we sparred at the Academy, so this is my chance to redeem myself," I declared with a smirk.

"Heh, bring it on! But also, that's not true...that first time you used Mana Pulse on me, I'd definitely count that as a loss for me."

"Well, I don't. It was basically a sucker punch, so at best, I'd call it a draw. But this time, I'll beat you fair and square."

"You can certainly try...and this is only assuming we do end up fighting each other at some point, it's very possible that we won't," She reasoned realistically.

Yeah, that's true. Hm, maybe I can speak to Charlotte and ask her to tweak the match-ups...like she herself said before, she's abused her authority plenty already, so why not pull a few more strings?
