Chapter 44 - Mana, Mayhem, and Midnight Lights

Unbeknownst to Chaos and Bane, the decision was made to livestream their daily school life, starting from the moment they stepped out of their Dorm until they step back into it. So everything from earlier had been livestreamed to every student forum, from Elementary to Senior, and the comments were flooding in as their day unfolded.

[Community Livestream Chat — Mana Training Day 1]

FireFly17: Chaos and Bane showing up with coffee? That's how you know it's about to get real.

Runic_Yi: Teacher Belial's, "If you could separate, please…" line will never not be wild. Like, sir, that's not normal for the rest of us!

ExamDread: Real talk, who's Er channelling when he slumps in the chair—me before every math test

SnackWizard: Thumbs up from Bane is peak supportive friend energy!

TwinDrama: Yi and Er's sibling banter always brings the chaos (no pun intended). Betting pool on which one actually wins a test for once?

ArcaneJoke: Okay, but Demon Selene laughing so hard she nearly falls out of her chair gives me life.

PlaylistWars: Demon Zera: "Arguing over playlists" — this is the most accurate Twin Demon content ever.

NoChill: Can we just have a stream that's nonstop Yi/Er wrestling highlights?

SpellSnaccs: Morgranna: enters the chat — Yi and Er: activate obedience mode

SoftDemon: "Morgranna makes our snacks. A time-out means no snacks." – Deadly serious, I completely get them.

Late2Class: I want Morganna's snack delivery. How do I sign up?

SeleneFan420: Still wild that fighting in the halls is considered "pretty tame." Only at this Academy lol

ManaMuse: Imagine being a Teacher and just casually stepping over wrestling Twins. Iconic.

Endergram: Whole room trying not to crack up at snack drama. This Academy is the dream!

Once the room had calmed down after the Mammys left, Teacher Belial got down to business. He handed Yi, Er and Bane a datapad each and asked them to complete the test, and Er was not allowed to peek at Yi's mind; they were checking for that in real-time.

Half an hour later, the trio completed the test and handed the datapads back. Er slumped into his chair, grabbing a snack and munching it as he muttered under his breath, as Yi and Bane tried and failed to stop their mouths from twitching at his muttering.

Belial and Selene checked the answers on the datapads and were able to quickly assess their levels of Knowledge mastery in Mana theory, namely the peak of Junior Academy, which caused both of them to raise their eyebrows in surprise.

Once they had finished that task, they discussed it with the rest.

"Okay, so based on the results from the test, each one of the three has reached the peak of Junior Academy Mana theory mastery. So until they undergo a new Knowledge inscription from Tian Dao, that will be the level cap for training." Belial explained the results.

"So, the Knowledge inscription they received during Chaos Awakening was more than just Elementary-level Knowledge? Beelzebub exclaimed.

"At least for Mana theory, yes. I can't say anything about the other Knowledge levels as they aren't my forte." Belial replied.

"Huh, that explains why I understand things I didn't before," Bane remarked.

"I'll relay it to Headmistress Lilith, and she'll decide how to handle this. So, shall we proceed to the practical side of Mana training?" Belial spoke, standing up from his chair.

The others also stood, and they followed Belial and Selene out of the office towards the practice room where the practical lesson was to be held.

"Oh, by the way, I almost forgot. The Councils and Nursery Elders decided to livestream your life here at the Academy from the moment you leave your Dorm to when you enter it, in an attempt to curb the students following you around filming you. Disrupting their Academy life and yours at the same time." Belial remarked offhandedly.

"Oh, that explains the feeling of being peeked at, but finding no one looking at us," Chaos replied as they had merged again so that he could carry Bane in his right arms.

"Yeah, there's a Mana-powered nano-drone flying around filming us. It'll automatically stop filming as soon as you enter your Dorm to ensure your privacy, and the stream will restart when you leave the Dorm." Selene explained.

Chaos nodded, "Yeah, it should make life less hectic with all of the students watching us through the stream instead of running around trying to watch us in real life."

At this time, they had reached their destination, and Belial had Chaos separate and Bane enlarge.

"Okay, so this is how the training will go. You'll each enter a separate chamber, and you're to follow the basic Mana drills you've mastered until the chamber indicates mastery has been reached. Each drill is only counted if you execute it perfectly, which, like the Grav chambers, these chambers can also detect it with sensors."

"During this training, music is allowed and the playlist can be selected from inside, but only if it's proven not to affect your focus. The chambers can detect this too and WILL shut off the music if it's affecting you. The chamber is designed and built to withstand a tenth-level Twin Demon going ballistic, so you don't have to worry about any accidental demolitions." Teacher Belial explained the training to Yi, Er and Bane.

"We will be outside, monitoring you via the panels, like you're used to from the Grav chambers. Now then, please enter and good luck."

With that, he, Selene, Beelzebub and Zera settled into the observation chairs, each with a monitor panel in front of them as Yi, Er, and Bane entered their chamber and set up their preferred playlist before starting their first-ever basic Mana drills.

SpellSpy21: So… confirmed, being at peak Junior Academy from the moment of Awakening. Is it too late to switch Dorms and soak up their brainwaves?

SnackHuntress: Wait, Bane munching snacks mid-test is legit a new mood. Snack wizardry in progress!

ChaosStanClub: Did anyone else catch Selene looking like she was about to lose all professional composure? Top-tier entertainment.

TwinTestTaker: Can we get a poll for which drill everyone would flop on first? I'd be out at "execute it perfectly"—whoops.

PlaylistDetective: What do you think Yi's playlist is THIS time? Still convinced it's 80% memes and battle music.

ManaMirth: Peak Teacher Belial move: "Don't worry about accidental demolitions." Like, sir, you designed and built them for mayhem; it's basically an invitation.

ErWhisperer: If we ever get an audio log of Er muttering test answers, I'm making it my study ASMR.

NanoDroned: The little drone is legit following them everywhere. Is it weird that I want merch of the nano-drone now?

DormDrop: The way the stream stops and starts at the Dorm is peak suspense. It's like the before-and-after-credits scene we never get.

At this time, all sorts of strange sounds echoed from the three chambers.

"So, are these sounds normal?" Beelzebub asked, a note of concern in his voice.

"How long ago did you do basic Mana training?" Belial retorted.

"Eh? About thirty thousand years ago, why?" Beelzebub replied, confused by the question.

"That explains it. It's been so long that you've forgotten this is completely normal. Honestly, I'm surprised—they're progressing faster than expected. I know Tian Dao helps them master their Knowledge quickly, but I didn't think it'd be this fast." Belial finally answered Beelzebub's question.

"Usually it takes students at least a week to reach this level, but they did it in under ten minutes, even with playlists that are, frankly, not ideal," Belial continued.

"These are their regular playlists. Bane's is symphonic metal, Yi's is epic movie scores, and Er's is synth-metal. They just have the volume turned down lower than usual," Zera remarked.

"Interesting…" Belial mused thoughtfully.

The sounds persisted as the Teachers watched the live feed on their monitoring panels. The trio moved through the Mana drills perfectly—if a bit slowly—with their counters steadily climbing.

They kept practising until lunchtime, when Selene powered down the chambers and the trio exited.

"You're all doing great! Keep it up, and you'll be wielding Mana like pros in no time," she encouraged them.

They made their way to the cafeteria for lunch. As always, Chaos and Bane pulled out their lunchboxes, eating leisurely while the rest grabbed Academy lunches and joined them.

"So, are your diets still the same? Meat and veg are B-level, and the rest is C-level, or has anything changed?" Selene asked curiously.

"They haven't changed yet. It's easy to tell when it's time to switch," Zera replied with a snicker.

"Oh?" Belial raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, when they need to change diets, it's obvious. Otherwise, they shovel food into their mouths like ravenous wolves," Beelzebub added.

"That must be a sight to behold," Selene quipped dryly.

After finishing their meals, they sipped tea and chatted about mundane things. Chaos and Bane asked questions about the Senior Academy nightlife and received several must-see recommendations to try during their month here.

After tea, they slowly headed back to the training chambers, chatting among themselves until it was time for the trio to restart their training. Their mastery kept rising—they picked up speed with their drills, firing off spells in a constant rhythm until, by day's end, it was nearly like machine-gun fire.

Meanwhile, the live stream chat and forum comments poured in.

[Academy Student Forum — Mana Training Day 1]

ManaHype23: Who else got chills when the drills started? Those noises sounded like a full demon parade in there.

JazzedForJuniors: Not me imagining synth-metal, symphonic metal, AND movie scores battling in those chambers

NocturneNerd: The way Belial was chill about ten minutes to first step mastery? Absolute legend. Makes you wonder what playlists work best for Mana training!

LunchboxLore: I want to see Chaos and Bane's lunchboxes. Secret snack masters or what? Why eat Caf food when you can have gourmet?

VeggieVanguard: Lowkey love Selene checking diets. B-level squad, rise up!

TidyTea: Sipping tea after training is so posh. Imagine: you finish firing spells like a machine gun, then immediately go zen with oolong.

SpeedCaster: "Close to machine guns firing off spell after spell"—this is finals week energy goals.

Wolfish: Beelzebub's ravenous food-shovelling comment… why do I feel too seen right now?

ChattyChamber: Someone, please make a "Mana Mastery MegaMix" playlist—for science!

ClubCrawler: Any of those nightlife recs for students, or is my night destined for homework hell?

Train2Win: Shoutout to the Teaching team for being unfazed by the chaos. Only at Senior Academy does a class sound like a wild concert!

ManaBoost: Meanwhile, my spells still sound like "gentle popcorn popping." Maybe someday: machine-gun rhythm…

When Chaos—who merged as soon as they left the chambers—and Bane finished the day's training, Belial remarked, "By the looks of it, you've fully mastered basic Mana training. Tomorrow, it's time for you to start the next set. You'll keep repeating this cycle until you've completed all of them."

"Now, off you go—enjoy your evening, and come back tomorrow energised!" Selene shooed them away.

Chaos and Bane thanked the Teachers and departed, heading back to their Dorm. They had decided to explore the Senior Academy's nightlife tonight, chaperoned by the Mammys.

Once they arrived, they showered and ate dinner earlier than usual, then set out again with Morgranna and Morgana accompanying them.

Beneath a swirl of glowing lanterns and arcane light strips, Chaos and Bane strolled through the buzzing central plaza of the Senior Academy. The air pulsed with rhythmic music from the open-air amphitheatre, where spell-lit dancers whirled in vivid auras that shifted colour with every step. Morgranna and Morgana walked on either side, their presences like anchors of calm and ancient wisdom amid the youthful revelry.

Snack carts floated by on gentle Mana currents, trailing delicious scents—sweet cream buns, crispy herbed meats, shimmering Mana jellies. Students in bold Class attire clustered around game tables, casting playful hexes and challenging each other to duels of wit and skill, laughter echoing into the night. Overhead, holographic Runes drifted among the stars, displaying jokes, friendly challenges, and riddles shared by the student body.

Delighted, Chaos swept Bane into an impromptu dance circle, the beat intertwining with their Mana, sparks of silver and deep violet trailing their moves. Bane grinned, keeping in step while firing off playful basic illusion-spells—their laughter drew more night owls to join the fun. Morgranna offered rounds of enchanted tea from a popular stall, the cups glowing softly and filling the air with calming citrus scents.

Morgana guided them toward the shadowy garden paths, where clusters of Seniors whispered secrets and shared stories under ancient trees. Arcane fireflies bobbed overhead, weaving glowing trails into temporary constellations. Every so often, a minor spell of fireworks arced overhead from another group, bursting into harmless sparkles and cheers.

As night deepened, the atmosphere transformed from raucous to magical—soft spell harmonies drifting from hidden corners, students gathered in late-night circles, trading tips and dreams. Chaos and Bane, flanked by their Mammys, soaked in every moment: the freedom, the mischief, the sense of being exactly where they belonged, if only for tonight.

Morgranna and Morgana herded the two of them back to the Dorm at nine, ensuring they wound down and were ready for bed before lessons tomorrow.

—

Naturally, the online forums exploded after Chaos and Bane's excursion into Senior Academy nightlife.

[Senior Academy Student Forum — Nightlife Thread]

LanternLore: Did you see Chaos and Bane out on the plaza? Someone teach me those Mana-dance moves—I almost got hit by a Mana spark, not even mad!

WhimsElder: The aura colours changing with every step? Peak festival vibes. If only regular nights were half as fun!

SnackScout: Morgranna and Morgana went full bodyguard—you could feel that "behave" energy. But also...who else wants to try every snack from those floating carts?

DuelistDaze: Not me joining the dance circle, and next thing I know, I'm hexed into doing the worm. 10/10 would groove again.

EnchantedEats: If anyone knows where to buy those glowing teas Morgranna served—drop a link. My soul left my body at the first sip (in the best way).

GardenGhost: Morgana and the secret shortcut game—garden path crew, rise up! Anyone else hear those arcane fireflies hum when the spells went off?

NightOwl: That illusion-spell lightshow Bane pulled off was smoother than half the pro illusionists here. Please, someone teach me!

ConstellationKid: Whoever came up with the Rune jokes floating in the sky deserves a medal. I nearly choked reading the punchlines during the dance-off.

MagicMeme: Betting pool—how many first-years tried to sneak into the plaza and immediately got sidelined by the Mammys? I counted four in costume.

TwilightTips: Pro tip—follow the Mammys for a chill night. They know all the best stalls and keep you out of the wild spell-duels!

Starstruck: Honestly, that whole night felt like the kind of story you tell ten years from now. Who's in for a repeat tomorrow night?
