Chapter 35 - Raising the Grav Limit

The pair was awoken in the morning by Morgrana, who guided them through their morning routine before they headed downstairs to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. They sipped their coffee slowly, relaxing and taking in the calm, tranquil view until it was time to leave for training.

They arrived at Grav Training Building Nine at the same time as yesterday and went directly to their chambers, sitting on chairs and sipping coffee from travel mugs while waiting for their Teachers.

As they finished the last sip of coffee, the Teachers arrived. The pair stood—Bane enlarged before rising—and greeted them. The Teachers returned the greeting. Bane and Chaos then brought up the Grav chamber settings as discussed the previous evening.

"Teacher Beelzebub, when we talked at home yesterday, we agreed the current Grav settings still feel very light for us, so we're worried the cap of five hundred might also be too low. Would it be alright if we increased it?" Chaos asked.

"You could try increasing the cap, as it does seem too light for you," Teacher Beelzebub replied.

"But we don't know our limit, so we're not sure where the cap should be. Could you give us some advice on this?" Bane asked.

"I appreciate you asking for advice about things you're unsure of. However, based on your Stats, I can't give a definitive answer on what you can or can't handle," Teacher Beelzebub explained. "We can ask Head Nocturne for guidance so we can create a more tailored approach for you."

He turned and dialled a holocall to Head Nocturne. "Good morning, Head Nocturne. Sorry to bother you so early."

"Good morning, Beelzebub, that's quite alright. I'm not busy, so you're not bothering me. How can I help?" Head Nocturne answered, her holo-image stabilising.

"Oh, hello Chaos, Bane, and Zera," she added upon seeing them.

"Good morning, Head Nocturne," they replied.

"I'm calling about Chaos and Bane. They think their Grav chamber cap is too low, and I tend to agree. We're unsure how to increase it safely, so I wanted your advice," Teacher Beelzebub said.

"That's a good question. Their Stats are still stabilising, so I'm not sure of their current limit either. I suggest you consider their current cap a milestone. Once reached, increase the Grav settings by intervals of ten each time they master it, until the system deems it unsustainable and automatically shuts off as a safety measure. It will record the maximum level they reached," Head Nocturne advised.

"That could work since the Elementary Grav chambers have a maximum cap of one thousand. This way, we can track their improvements as their Stats stabilise and increase," Demon Zera said.

Teacher Beelzebub, Chaos, and Bane nodded in agreement, thanked Head Nocturne for her insight, and ended the call.

Chaos split up, and each adjusted their Grav settings. When finished, they awaited approval before entering their chambers for the next round of training.

The Teachers settled into chairs before their monitoring panels, discussing what the trio's limit might be.

Meanwhile, a nearby student had filmed the entire exchange and uploaded it to the Academy forums. As expected, the comments exploded.

Zoomer49: Did you see the video where Chaos and Bane asked to change the Grav chamber settings? I thought the cap was already super high!

StarSprite: Yeah! They said 500 felt light! How do they even handle that? I can barely do 200 in my chamber, haha.

MiniMage: Maybe they're part robot or something. But it was smart to ask for advice. I wouldn't want my chamber to go too heavy suddenly!

QuasarQ: Head Nocturne gave good advice. Increase by ten each time you get used to it. I wish my Stats would stabilise so fast.

BatKid62: What if my chamber shuts off like she said? Has that happened to anyone else, or just super-strong students?

StellarSweetie: I think it's a safety thing. My brother says if you push too hard, it shuts off, so you don't get squished.

PixiePower: Who do you think will reach the 1,000 cap first: Chaos Yi, Bane, or Chaos Er? I think Chaos Er looks especially strong.

StarlightJinx: Let's keep watching the forum! Maybe they'll post their next scores and we can cheer for them!

The trio all hit the five-hundred cap at the same time and began testing the new settings, eager to discover their current limit.

By lunchtime, they were at a magnifier of six hundred and fifty and still felt it was light. They went to lunch with their Teachers, eating leisurely while the forums continued to buzz.

TinyTiger: Wow, 650 and they still said it's light?! I can only do 90 before my arms get wobbly. Do you think they're eating a special superfood or something?

SilverMoon: Maybe they have secret training at home! Or their Teachers give them tips we don't know about. I wish I could train with them to see how it feels.

FutureLegend: It's cool that Teachers can call Head Nocturne on holocalls. I wish I could call the Teachers if my settings feel funny. Has anyone tried it?

QuizzerKid: If their chambers turn off, does an alarm go off? Or do lights blink and everyone panics? I hope no one gets squished!

GigaNova: My cousin says every increase makes you stronger. But it also gets harder! What if Chaos Yi, Bane and Chaos Er can keep going forever?

BunnyBounce: Who will get to 1000 first? I think Bane, since they stood up first and looked ready!

SuperSocks: I want to try 200 one day, but my Teacher says to start small. Do you think patience is the real trick?

Bane, Chaos, and the Teachers compared the current settings with those from before the Awakening as they returned to their chambers.

"You've already doubled your pre-Awakening Grav settings, so your Awakening truly boosted your basic Stats," Teacher Beelzebub remarked.

"Yeah, three hundred was our max before, and now we're at six hundred and fifty—and we'll probably go up more before the day's end. We're excited to find our current limit," Bane replied with a chipper voice.

Chaos and Bane entered their chambers again, continuing training while their Teachers observed the last half of the day, wondering how high the trio could go.

AstroSprout: Did you see? Chaos and Bane doubled their Grav max since Awakening! Six hundred and fifty! I want to Awaken now, too!

GemOtter: Before Awakening, 300 was their max. I can barely do 75! How do you get that strong? Maybe they eat lots of protein pancakes?

NebulaNoodle: Bane sounded so happy about training more. If I could handle 650, I'd run around school showing off!

MiniMeteor: What do you think their limit will be now? Is anyone at school even stronger?

JellyBeanJet: Do you think Awakening hurts?

BittyBlitz: I wish Teachers let me try my max! My Mammy won't let me, but it looks fun (except when the chamber goes heavy).

FrostyFox: Will they try a thousand? What if the chamber explodes? (Hope not!)

SnailZoom: Can you get competitive points in PT for raising your Grav setting? That would make training more exciting!

PixiePop: Good luck, Chaos and Bane! Post when you hit a new record so we can all cheer!

Just before day's end, the trio had to tap out at a magnifier of seven hundred fifty, having found their current limit.

"Well, it looks like we've found your current limit, though it will likely increase again," Demon Zera said as the trio exited the Grav chambers that had automatically shut off.

Teacher Beelzebub nodded. "You can be proud of yourselves, but remember: your current limit will eventually become your new starting line."

Both Bane and Chaos nodded to show their understanding.

"Well, tomorrow is Friday and then the weekend, so you have the day off. On Monday, we'll start a new cycle, this time with advanced combat drills. You'll begin from the lowest setting and work up until you hit your limits," Teacher Beelzebub instructed.

The pair thanked their Teachers and turned to leave.

Once more, everything was filmed and posted on the forums, which, as expected, exploded.

GalacticKid9: Did you see the new vid? Chaos and Bane hit 750 in the Grav chambers! That's the highest score anyone's posted, right?

MiniFlame: Whoa, 750?! My arms get tired at 100! I wonder if the Grav chamber just shuts off when you can't move anymore…

SkyGlider: I heard Demon Zera say their limit will go up again soon. Does that mean they just keep getting stronger each week?

Starlite: Teacher Beelzebub always gives such cool advice. "Your limit now will be your starting line soon." I wish I could train with those Teachers—maybe I'd go higher too!

NebulaNerd: Jealous they have advanced combat drills next week. Sounds more fun than potions class!

FuzzyBee: I love how Bane and Chaos always thank their Teachers, even after tough training. They're so polite!

PebblePop: Do you think we'll get a chance to try for the 750 limit one day, or is that just for the strongest kids?

RocketRhino: Anyone else watch the vids and then lift their backpack like it's under extra gravity? Just me?

StarrySprite: Wish tomorrow wasn't a day off... I want to see them break another record already!

The Nursery Elders and Headmasters held a meeting to discuss the students' online responses as well as Bane and Chaos's progress.

Holo-images stabilised as the eight attendees appeared around the virtual table.

Elder Soleil: Good afternoon, colleagues. Thank you for joining on short notice. The forums have been especially active since the footage of Chaos Yi, Bane, and Chaos Er in the Grav chambers surfaced.

Headmaster Solis: Indeed. Online reactions have been considerable—there's chatter about their achievements, but also concern about student safety and monitoring of limits.

Elder Lucius: We've never seen such a surge of younger students pushing each other competitively in Grav training. Many are fascinated—and perhaps intimidated—by the trio's successes.

Headmaster Rowan: Some students now want to attempt higher settings, even unsupervised. Others wish to contact Teachers directly for advice, imitating what they saw online.

Elder Kyle: Should we expect disciplinary issues or, in the worst case, accidents from unsupervised students pushing limits?

Headmaster Varkos: Our protocols should prevent most incidents—the shut-off works. But peer pressure may tempt students to test their boundaries.

Elder Soleil: We should address students via a forum thread, emphasising the importance of gradual training, patience, and respecting one's limits. A reminder about safety protocols may reduce anxiety.

Headmaster Rowan: Agreed, and an encouraging message about personal growth. Not everyone progresses at the same pace. I also suggest an open Q&A about Grav chamber safety and student concerns.

Elder Soleil: Let's also commend Chaos Yi, Bane, and Chaos Er for seeking guidance and modelling responsibility in front of their peers.

Headmaster Everdawn: I'll work with the Teachers to share anonymised statistics on average progress, to help normalise different experiences.

Elder Kyle: Perhaps we should also post explaining that the trio's basic Stats are higher than average due to special Classes, Bloodlines, and Oath. Transparency is key.

Headmistress Elara: Then it's settled: a thread about patience and respecting limits, an open Q&A thread, and more visibility for safety protocols and positive competition.

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Elder Soleil: Thank you, everyone. Let's stay proactive. Meeting adjourned.

Meanwhile, Chaos and Bane had reached home and were soaking in the bathing pool, letting their muscles relax after the stress of training. At six, they exited the pool and went downstairs after drying off, brushing their hair, and putting on their sleeping robes.

They enjoyed a leisurely candlelit dinner on the balcony, watching as the sky shifted from day to dusk and then night, sipping hot chocolate all the while. Afterwards, they moved to the sofa in the sitting area to snuggle together, continuing to admire the view of the Academy grounds as the night progressed.

Lanterns lit up in every Dorm, casting a gentle, soft glow that illuminated the night. In the forests just beyond the Academy walls, bioluminescence flickered to life, painting the woods in an otherworldly light.

They finished their hot chocolate while watching the view until it was time for bed. Then, they headed upstairs for their bedtime routine before lying down, snuggled together—Bane held securely within Chaos's four arms.
