Chapter 91: Legacy of the Dragon
Marineford - Training Ground
The sun beat down. Smoke and dust filled the air, mixed with the sharp scent of sweat and the heavy pressure of Haki.
"Iron Cannon!!"
Luffy pulled his arm back, coated in Armament Haki, and slammed it into Garp's chest with the force of a cannonball!
"BAM!!"
The impact echoed, a solid hit.
But Garp stood like an iron tower, not even flinching.
He grinned, his wrinkled face beaming with pride. "Your strength has improved since last month... but you're still too green!!"
"Damn it!! Why is Grandpa's chest harder than a battleship?!" Luffy stamped his foot, his face red.
"BWAHAHAHA!!"
Garp roared with laughter, then immediately delivered a heavy punch to the top of Luffy's head. "Because I am Garp the Fist!!!"
"Gyaaaah—!!"
Luffy was driven into the ground like a nail, only his twitching legs visible. "Violent old man..." he mumbled from the dirt.
Nearby, Ace and Zoro were locked in fierce combat.
"Cross Fire!!"
Blazing fire shot from Ace's fingers in a cross shape!
Zoro's expression hardened. He drew both swords, coating them in Haki, and slashed through the flames!
"Two-Sword Style: Tiger Trap!!"
One sword cut the fire, the other aimed for Ace, but Ace was already close. He spun, delivering a scorching whip-kick to Zoro's side!
"BAM!!"
Zoro blocked, but both were knocked back, their feet carving furrows in the ground. They panted, sweat dripping.
"Not bad, Marimo!" Ace grinned, fire dancing on his fingers.
"Hmph. You too," Zoro retorted, a competitive smirk on his face.
Just then, a familiar, lazy voice drifted over. "My, my, looks lively."
They turned. A figure had appeared on the sidelines. Black coat flapping, hands in his pockets, smiling.
"Big Bro Roy!" Zoro immediately sheathed his swords and stood straight, respectful.
"Where have you been slacking off?" Ace asked, crossing his arms. "Disappearing for days... did you sneak off to some hot spring island?"
"Ha? Hot spring? Don't talk nonsense, brat."
Roy walked over and bonked Ace on the head.
"I'm a dignified Marine Vice Admiral. I'm busy with official business, understand?"
"Ow!" Ace rubbed his head. "Grandpa Garp seems pretty free..."
Garp, who had just finished pounding Luffy into the earth, glared. "Brat, you want extra training too?!"
Ace shrank back behind Roy. "No, no, Grandpa, I'm good..."
Roy shook his head, then his expression turned serious.
"Old Man. I have something important. I need you and Luffy to come with me. Alone."
Garp's expression shifted. Sensing the gravity in Roy's voice, he nodded. "Understood."
He pulled Luffy out of the ground by his collar. "Let's go, kid."
"Eh? Where? I haven't hit him back yet!"
"Shut up and listen!"
"FWOOSH!"
Space rippled, and Roy waved his hand. The three of them vanished instantly, leaving Zoro and Ace standing in the dust, confused.
"Where did they go?" Zoro frowned.
Ace crossed his arms. "Another secret mission...?"
Marineford - Secret Training Ground (Back Mountains)
The sunset burned like fire across the horizon, casting golden light on the cliffs. The sound of crashing waves filled the air.
"FWOOSH—!"
Roy, Garp, and Luffy appeared in the hidden training area.
"Whoa—! Where is this?!" Luffy, still dizzy from being pulled out of the ground, sat down hard.
This was Garp's old secret training ground.
Garp looked around. "You didn't bring us here just to chat, did you?"
Roy didn't answer immediately. He solemnly pulled a special lead box from his coat.
He tapped the lock, and the lid hissed open.
Inside lay a Devil Fruit, glowing with a soft pink light. The patterns on its surface looked like delicate dragon scales, radiating an extraordinary aura.
"Is that..." Garp's pupils shrank, his face showing rare shock. "A Devil Fruit?"
"Correct," Roy said calmly. "The result of Vegapunk's twenty years of research. The Artificial Fish-Fish Fruit, Mythical Type, Model: Azure Dragon (Pink Version). Extracted from Kaido's Lineage Factor."
Garp's face darkened, his breathing heavy. "You brat... you dared to touch something that dangerous?"
As a legend who had fought Kaido many times, he knew the terror of the Azure Dragon—breath that could tear the sky, scales impervious to blades, and the ability to soar through the heavens.
Roy smiled faintly. "The cost was high, but it was worth it. Kaido has ruled the New World for decades with that fruit. It's time the Marines had a 'Dragon' of our own."
Garp hesitated, then gripped Roy's shoulder, cracking the ground beneath them. "Do you know what this means? If the Five Elders find out..."
Roy met his gaze. "That's why Luffy needs to master it quickly!"
He turned to Luffy, who was still rubbing his head. "Luffy. Eat it."
"Huh?" Luffy's eyes widened, and he shook his head frantically. "No way! If I eat a Devil Fruit, I can't swim!"
Garp immediately delivered a "Fist of Love." "Idiot! Do you know what this fruit means?! This is a Mythical Zoan, rarer than a Logia! It's the mighty Azure Dragon form! Do you know the risks Roy took to get this?!"
Luffy held his smoking head, pouting. "But..."
Roy crouched down, looking Luffy in the eye. "Luffy, do you want to be strong?"
"Of course!" Luffy answered without hesitation.
"Do you want to be like your Grandpa, and punch the King of the Pirates flying?"
Luffy's eyes lit up. "Yeah!"
"Do you want to protect Ace, Nami, Nojiko, and everyone you care about?"
Luffy clenched his fists. "Yeah! I do!"
Roy held the box out. "Then accept the power of this fruit, and become the Navy's strongest dragon!"
Luffy looked at the fruit, then at his Grandpa's expectant gaze. He gritted his teeth, grabbed the fruit, and shoved it into his mouth.
"BLEEEAGH—!" Luffy's face twisted. "WHY DOES IT TASTE SO BAD?!!!"
Garp and Roy smiled at each other and stepped back, waiting.
A moment later—
"BOOM!!!"
A violent storm of energy exploded from Luffy's body!
When the smoke cleared, Luffy's new form was revealed.
He retained his human shape, but he was taller, leaner, and more muscular. His body was covered in pale pink dragon scales that shone like pearls in the sunset.
His arms had become draconic, ending in sharp, gleaming claws.
Two silver dragon horns curved back from his forehead. His black hair was longer and wilder. His eyes were now amber, with sharp, vertical pupils.
Luffy looked like a true "Marine Dragon"—handsome, domineering, powerful, yet elegant. He radiated an aura that could shake the heavens.
"Whoa! My hands feel itchy!" Luffy panicked, feeling his claws, but his face was full of excitement.
Garp stared, his mustache trembling. "Luffy... really turned into a dragon!"
Roy nodded, satisfied. "Vegapunk removed the berserk factor. This version suits Luffy's personality better."
However, before they could celebrate—
Gurgle...
Luffy's stomach growled. "My tummy feels weird..."
Instinctively, he opened his mouth. "Blast Breath!!"
A searing, dazzling beam of pink fire shot from his mouth! The three-meter-wide column of energy instantly punched a hole through a distant cliff, sending rock and dust crashing into the sea with a thunderous roar!
The beam melted through the clouds, painting a brilliant streak of light across the twilight sky.
"..."
Garp and Roy stared at the massive hole in the cliff in silence.
Two seconds later, they roared in unison: "LUFFY!!!"
Luffy scratched his head with a dragon claw, laughing sheepishly. "Shishishi! Oops... I couldn't hold it in."
