Emily stood outside the economics building, taking a deep breath. It had been over two weeks since she'd attended regular classes.
competition preparation, the competition itself, recovery, the ceremony. Now she was back, ready to resume normal student life.
Except nothing about her life was normal anymore.
"Sister Emily, are you nervous?" Ming Li asked, standing beside her in jeans and a casual blazer that made her look like any other student. "Your heart rate increased. I can tell."
"I'm fine, Li," Emily said.
Thor had stayed home with Alfred, much to Ming Li's disappointment. But bringing a ninety-pound German Shepherd to classes seemed excessive, even by Emily's standards.
"Ready?" Emily asked.
"Always ready!" Ming Li patted the concealed weapon at her hip. "Nobody will hurt you. I promise."
Emily smiled Li "I know. Come on."
