Blackwood Penthouse - 2:30 PM
Emily woke from restless sleep, her heart pounding. Another nightmare of her fallen comrades.
The battlefield felt so vivid in the dream, it was as if she was standing there and experiencing it all over again.
She sat up, breathing hard.
Timothy appeared in the doorway immediately.
"Emily?"
"I'm fine," she said automatically.
"You're not."
Emily opened her mouth to argue, but the words wouldn't come. Instead, something inside her cracked.
She wasn't fine.
And she'd been holding it all together, staying strong.
But she was so tired.
The tears came suddenly, violently. Emily buried her face in her hands as sobs tore through her.
Timothy was beside her instantly, pulling her against his chest. "Let it out. I've got you."
"I can't keep doing this," Emily choked out. "I can't keep being strong. I can't keep fighting. I'm so tired, Timothy. So tired."
"I know."
