Cut from Chapter 50 - Too Much Conflict
Why it was deleted: This added unnecessary political drama when the story should have been winding down into domestic bliss. It created conflict where none was needed.
Rian's POV
"There's dissent in the pack," Damon warns. "Some think your human mate makes you weak."
"Who?"
"Marcus's brother, Cain. He's gathering supporters. Planning a challenge."
A challenge. For Alpha position. Winner takes pack leadership. Loser either submits or dies.
"When?" I ask, already preparing mentally.
"Full moon. Three days."
I tell Luca that evening. He's immediately worried.
"Can you win?"
"I have to. If I lose, you and Kai aren't safe. New Alpha could exile you. Or worse."
"Then don't lose." But his fear is palpable through the bond.
The Challenge Day
Cain is strong. Younger than me. Fierce.
"Your human mate has made you soft, Blackwood," he taunts before the fight. "Time for real strength to lead."
"My mate makes me stronger," I counter. "Gives me everything to fight for."
The battle is brutal. Claws, teeth, blood.
Luca watches from the sidelines, terrified. I feel his fear through the bond, and it gives me strength.
For him. For Kai. For our family.
I fight harder than ever. Cain is good. But I'm better.
Because I have everything to lose.
I pin him finally, jaws around his throat. "Yield."
"Never—"
"YIELD or die. Choose."
He yields. The pack howls approval.
I've won. Kept my position. Kept my family safe.
"That's my Alpha," Luca says when I reach him, bloodied but victorious.
"Your Alpha who's going to pass out now," I manage before collapsing.
Recovery - One Week Later
"No more challenges," Luca says firmly. "My heart can't take it."
"Hopefully that was the last. I proved I'm strong enough to lead." I pull him close. "And that my human mate doesn't make me weak. Makes me fierce."
"Damn right I do."
