Kai and Derek both sat on a fallen tree, watching the scenery while secretly searching for Travis with the corners of their eyes.
"Can we stop deceiving ourselves? You came here to find Travis, didn't you?" Kai asked. Derek, finally glad someone had said it, nodded. He was tired of the awkward silence that had been disturbing the air between them.
"I don't know... he just left with the kids, but I missed him so badly. I just wanted to have some fun with him, especially now that we are all in this peaceful world," Kai stated. Derek simply ruffled his mane and gave a longing smile.
How was he supposed to tell Kai that he feared they might die soon? That he and the others might not see the end of tomorrow? That everything was about to end? That was why he was so insistent on spending time with Travis; he knew what horrible things awaited them and was just looking for a way to lure them out of Travis's peaceful space for a moment longer.
