Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The Isolated Villa on the Cliff's Edge

The custom pink BMW sped down the highway. Conan sat in the passenger seat, wearing a frustrated expression.

[That girl, Sonoko! Why does she let Hattori drive? And with just a few words, she's already been swept off her feet to the point she doesn't know where her head is.]

Ran, Kazuha and Suzuki Sonoko were seated in the back. Since all three had perfect figures, they didn't feel cramped.

Heiji was driving. Worthy of the Suzuki Group, this custom car was incredibly comfortable. It glided down the highway with impeccable stability and impressive power.

"Hey, Ran, aren't you really tempted? I think Heiji looks a lot like Shinichi."

Since Heiji was a "transmigrator," his skin was much lighter than the original Heiji's, but it wasn't the pallor of a pretty boy; it was a normal, healthy skin tone, though not very dark. In short, a very pleasant appearance.

"Looks like Shinichi?" Ran was puzzled. Now that Sonoko mentioned it, Heiji did resemble Shinichi a little, but...

"Doesn't he?" Suzuki Sonoko insisted.

"Well, their faces are a bit similar, but Heiji's gaze is much gentler than Shinichi's. And he treats Kazuha very well," Ran said with envy.

"That deduction fanatic—what would he know about tenderness?" Suzuki Sonoko said, showing extreme disdain toward Kudo Shinichi.

[Hey, hey, I'm still here.] Veins started to show on Conan's forehead.

"Are you talking about Heiji?" Kazuha vaguely heard her boyfriend's name.

"Yes. Kazuha, can you tell us how you and Heiji started dating?"

Female friendship can sometimes be forged with a single sentence. And with Sonoko's outgoing personality, she quickly became friends with Kazuha.

The three girls whispered in the back seat, and occasional exclamations were heard. Then, the three of them would look up at the same time to glance at Heiji driving, his face bathed in the last rays of the setting sun...

"He's so handsome!!!!" Sonoko said with a lovestruck look.

Ran also felt a little moved: "Heiji and Shinichi are handsome in different ways. And compared to Shinichi, Heiji seems to understand a woman's heart better. Kazuha is so lucky."

As for Kazuha, the love in her eyes almost overflowed, full of happiness.

"Ran sis, there are two ahead! Which way do we take?" Conan suddenly shouted.

[That girl, Ran! What's so interesting about Hattori that she just stares at him like that?]

"Sonoko, left or right?" Heiji slowed down.

The three girls reacted instantly, but they felt no embarrassment at all, behaving completely naturally.

"Let's see... left. But the mountain road coming up might be a bit difficult to drive," Sonoko warned.

Heiji stepped on the accelerator, sped up sharply, and the car left the highway.

This road had a bottomless cliff on one side and a high mountain on the other. There were only two lanes and, most importantly, it was a road with eighteen curves.

Since it had just rained a little, the mountain road was not only full of potholes but also very muddy. The three girls' hands instinctively gripped, and their expressions were nervous.

However, Heiji's driving skill was excellent. He drove very confidently, and little by little the three girls began to relax.

"Heiji, did you learn to drive?" Sonoko suddenly asked curiously. "I mean, were you a professional race car driver?"

"Sonoko, Heiji is a detective; how would he be a race car driver?" Kazuha asked, puzzled.

"Sonoko, why are you asking that all of a sudden?" Ran also asked, curious.

"You know what? My father has also been to that villa. His chauffeur is a professional race car driver and drives a much better car than this one. But he doesn't drive as comfortably and reassuringly as Heiji," Sonoko recalled.

"Really? How amazing is Heiji!" Ran said with admiration.

"But Heiji isn't a race car driver," Kazuha said, confused.

Heiji smiled faintly. As a mechanic, he not only knew how to drive cars, but also planes and tanks. There simply was no need to show off.

"It's just a normal way of driving. Sonoko is exaggerating."

[No. Definitely not a normal way of driving. Sonoko is right, this is the way a race car driver drives.] Conan looked at Heiji strangely: "This guy, Hattori, turns out to be a race car driver?"

Following Sonoko's directions, Heiji drove the car to the edge of a cliff. On the other side of the cliff there was a solitary villa, surrounded by a dense forest.

To go from this side of the cliff to the other, there was only a wooden suspension bridge tied with ropes.

"Sonoko, why did they build the villa there?" Ran said with resignation.

"There was no other choice. My father likes quiet, and he comes here on vacation from time to time," Sonoko also felt helpless.

[Heh, the world of the rich is hard to understand.] Conan smiled resignedly.

"Sonoko, hurry up!" Suzuki Ayako greeted them from the other side.

"Yes, sis, we're on our way!"

The suspension bridge wobbled, but it was quite sturdy. The group crossed quickly.

"Sis, let me introduce. This is my good friend Ran, and she is Kazuha. This is Hattori Heiji, and... this is the clingy brat called Conan."

"Hello everyone, I'm Suzuki Ayako."

Suzuki Ayako, worthy of being the eldest daughter of the Suzuki Group, had an air of calm and composure that filled Ran and the others with envy.

"Sonoko, take your friends to their rooms first so they can drop off their things. Then I'll introduce you to my companions, who are resting in their rooms."

"Sure. Ran, Kazuha, let's go. Tonight we'll sleep in the same room."

Sonoko pulled Kazuha and Ran straight up to the second floor. Heiji and Conan followed them silently.

The rooms on the second floor were arranged symmetrically.

"Sonoko, where is our room?" Ran asked.

"Ah, I don't know. But I guess it's this one."

Sonoko opened the first door at random.

"Ah, sorry!"

"Sonoko, what's wrong?"

Suddenly, she let out a scream that frightened Ran and the others.

"It's nothing," Sonoko said, embarrassed, and opened another door.

"Ah!!!"

The screams followed one after another.

Heiji, resigned, went to a room and, without asking, opened the door and went in.

"Heiji, no! There might be someone changing their clothes...!"

Suddenly, Sonoko stood with her mouth open in surprise. The room Heiji had opened was empty.

"Heiji, how did you know there was no one in here?"

"When we arrived, it had just rained. It was a sudden shower, and Ayako's companions surely didn't expect it, so they must have gotten wet. Even if they changed shoes when entering, the clothes would still have some drops of water. If you look closely, in front of the door of each room there are one or two drops of water, which proves someone stopped briefly in front of them. Why stop? Either to knock on the door or to open it. In any case, it shows someone is inside. This room and the one opposite are empty, because the floor in front of their doors is clean.
